The hole punch function is for use on state trails where they can fine you for not “properly” disposing of your fuel canisters.

The difference between reusing and recycling. It's better to refill it if it's possible, but if for whatever reason it can't be refilled, you have to puncture the can in order to put it in the recycle bin.

By punching a hole in the can its prevents them from exploding in a trash fire. The go boom about like a granade. Also to send them ro scrap recycling. Basically it's a way to prevent injuries or even death. If they are refillable awesome but lots if not most are not refillable

Recycling canister- that’s exactly what it’s meant for, for you to actually bring that canister to a recycling center so they can recycle it into something else. It’s not about recycling to fill it back up with gas. It’s actual recycling. It punctures holes in the canister so it can visually show people that there is no trapped gas inside. No trapped gas means that it’s safe to be recycled. Now do I think this is some problem that needed to be fixed, I have no clue. Edit - The $60 for the sleeping pad that is actually the price for it now. Even on Amazon it is now that expensive.

The 3 R's are Reduce Reuse and Recycle. Refilling a fuel canister with fuel is "Reuse". This tool allows you to "Recycle" because you puncture holes in it so that it can be turned into a recycle depot where they will melt it down and turn it into something else. You cannot turn in a pressurized cylinder without rendering it safe by puncturing holes.

The pot holder pops holes in the gas container so you can drop the pressure in the container so you can throw it away or drop it in the recycling bin. Like you fly out to hike the Tetons and after the hike you have to throw away the gas container since you can’t fly home with it .

It depressurizes the can so it won't have the possibility of exploding when you dispose of the can

I think it means it makes the gas canister to safe to recycle, maybe? As opposed to refilling it? Like, you could use it to safely puncture aerosol cans so you can put them in the recycle bin.

The pot holder is cracking me up. It makes it so that you can clear out the gas, before recycling the container in the trash.

We had a guy at my hospital (I'm a RN) that was walking the halls with his glass of Pepsi and pumping hand sanitizer into the cup from all the hand-wash stations in the hallway. After a while the nurse taking care of him was like "wtf? this guy is fucking wasted", and they finally figured out his ruse. hahaha!!

If not refilling can or non-refillable can then you puncture the can before tossing it out and recycling... Also refillable containers have expiration dates tgen have to have inspected or toss it so puncture it before tossing it in recycling

the recycler is literally for if youre recycling the canister as in not refilling it and sending it to trash\metal recycling, youre not supposed to leave fuel in stuff youre sending off.

I think what it means by recycling is, you can empty out the propane and then take it to your local recycling center. But that's just my guess

Your looking at the word recycle incorrectly. Fuel, spray paint, whatever type of flammable container, to put them in the trash (recycling) safely, they should be punctured.

@@DocP91B example if you fly somewhere to hike, so buy a fuel can when you land since you can’t fly with fuel and then at the need of the hike when it time to fly home you have to throw away/ recycle the can when you fly home so you put a hole in it so it can safely be discarded. Or if you are doing a through hike and you use empty out a can and so you throw away the old one and pick up a new one when you get to town

@@DocP91B Like the fire extinquisher, it has a lifespan (metal fatique under pressure). Because it has gas in it, it is considered dangerous. To remove safety that danger, you release the gas making a hole. After that it is safe to dispose. Why not with a hammer? Because the friction make spaks and you have a bomb. An unuseful item, I know, but..

Nothing in this box blew my socks off. Nothing here is causing me to regret not being sub'd right now. I have a table that's nearly identical I got off Amazon for $10 less. It actually pairs well with the Cali-loa chair that BB sent out a while back (and that I have) since they are both low to the ground. I carry them both in my Jeep and have used them (daughter's swim meets, park, etc). I could see throwing that multi tool in to my pack that I carry daily but I would never consider it a primary tool. The rest would wind up in a drawer or on the shelf. Not a bad box, but still basically just a bunch of random crap. Not sure the value is there on this one.

Interesting box this time as more items in the like it and meh pile. These type of canisters are usually filled with a type of gas that does not allow for refilling unlike propane tanks. Propane tanks have to be recycled at specific places (the small green and larger white ones), whereas the small and larger gas containers (non propane and thin walled) can be punctured and recycled in the normal recycling. That is one of the reasons that many hikers and campers take these (also because the fuel will work in lower temperatures in colder climates). Technically even stuff like hairspray and lysol (anything pressurized) is supposed to have a hole in it for it to be recycled. The multitool kind of gimmicky and the knife maybe $45 to $55 or less due to materials and quality. VG10 is a good steel but I would consider it a budget steel at this point. The rest of the items are great. Thanks for the great vid Doc and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

Lost of places need you to puncture fuel cans to ensure they are no longer under pressure, making them safe to squash. Often state parks want you to do this as well.

Awesome love these boxes but this one kinda sucked. recycle tool as in poking a hole in the canister, so it doesn't build pressure and explode im guessing. Garbage recycling not canister refilling i think is the aim with that tool and with your magnetic blade issue do you edc a magnetic tailcap flashlight that could have something to do with it?

I have so many comments for this video lol but ill keep it simple, im starting to not like the open flow thru design on folders if I have coins in the same pocket as the knife cuz they end up getting stuck in that void and I know its not good on the edge, so I dont carry change and end up with a pocket full cuz I don't have change to use lol. My pm2 crucarta came in yesterday and ❤ its beautiful lol.

You can refill the propane style canisters. You CANNOT refill the isopropanol smallest Backpacking canisters. Those need to be disabled and trashed (some companies do take in the disabled canisters).
