Interesting facts on Travis’ trail! That bit of history really sets this one off, making it a true Battle Creek guide for ages to come!

It's important that everyone knows the "true" history of Battle Creek Legend TKolbo, but I'm gonna ask him why didn't berm that corner on his trail at 9:10
@ridindirt
@ridindirt 3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that about Travis’ trail but that makes sense. I do know why that there’s no berm though. There’s a reason why the top part before it is totally different than the rest of the trail
@AndrewGehn
@AndrewGehn 3 жыл бұрын
@@ridindirt I have no idea why it’s actually named Travis’ trail, was just messing around with TKolbo since that’d be funny if they changed the name after him. That trail does start out wide and flowy, and then after that turn it does seem more old school hand cut.
@ridindirt
@ridindirt 3 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewGehn yup, it was built with a machine and then they decided they didn’t want to pay the guy so he stopped building and got out of there. Then the rest was done by volunteers. And I know it was a joke lol

@@ridindirt Haha well I hope at least one person thinks that's where the trails name is from. Good thing an actual Battle Creek Historian gave the details behind that trail, that's a bummer for the guy building it, was his name Travis by chance lol

History: The trail was named for Travis Miller who started driving this project forward with the county/city. This trail was built in an effort to reduce two way traffic on the old overlook two way trail and provide a fun flowy downhill section that has a few technical uphill switchbacks.

Thanks for the real history behind that trail! It’s one of my favorites there, glad they were able to build a designated downhill trail that’s fun to ride

Just rode ski jump trail section at BC tonight. Dirt was sticky. Cleared the climb. Black loop at Taylor’s Falls by high school has even harder climbs that I walk.

I haven't ridden there but I'm always a fan of difficult climbs! Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to check out those trails sometime

You like battle creek over Lebanon hills? Great vid btw
@AndrewGehn
@AndrewGehn Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really like Lebanon Hills and they are practically tied for me for best trail system in the metro area. Battle Creek has more elevation and has some steeper climbs and descents, while Lebanon Hills is packed full of trail features and is a blast every time! It’s been years since I’ve ridden at Leb and they’ve built a lot since then, maybe Leb would be my new favorite!

Leb is way better. Battle Creek had me dying with the climbs 😂

@@HOV4N Those tough climbs mean longer descents, Goat trail! 🐐 They’re probably tied for me as best, Leb definitely has more features and I need to get back there to ride, it’s been years since I was there and I’m sure they’ve built a lot of new jumps and features

I've never been to Battle Creek, but I'm going tomorrow. I'm an advanced rider, but It'll be my first time on dirt this year. Any trail suggestions? I want to be challenged, but not kill myself the first time out! 😂

Hey Randal, I hope the weather cooperated you got out for a ride there, what was your favorite trail if you did get a ride in? I actually rode there over the weekend too when I was visiting my parents! Goat trail is widely regarded as the best downhill trail in the Metro area. Wall of Death and Travis's trail are two of my other favorites.

@@AndrewGehn I rode on Friday, just beat the rain and rode Goat four times. Great trail! I couldn’t find Travis’ Trail or Wall of Death. I came across Freight Train by accident and rode it a couple of times. I only knew it was Freight Train, because a couple of locals told me what trail it was. There weren’t any signs (trail names) on any of the trails except Goat and Luge. It was frustrating. No maps in the system, either. I rode for two hours and covered a lot of distance and trails, but seemed to be going in circles. I would love to go back with someone that knows their way around. On Saturday, I rode the Xcel Energy Mountain Bike Trails. It was fun to brush up on my bike skills, especially the skinnies! I just beat the rain again. It was great to get back on dirt. Duluth is still very wet and muddy with a bit of snow on some trails, but there’s an outside chance Hawk Ridge and Morningside may open this week if we get some sun and no rain. All other trails are closed at this time and it could take weeks to open. Even Pine Valley in Cloquet is closed now. They usually are the first to open up. Sad.

@@Randy_Johnson Sounds like a classic first ride experience at Battle Creek, getting completely lost with the minimal signage! It definitely takes a few rides there to find the better trails, but you did ride the best trail there, Goat. I haven’t made it out to the Xcel all weather trail but I want to try some of the challenging skinnies there. I hope Duluth opens soon weather permitting, those are my favorite trails!
