Yeah those guys are ridiculous. The range of catapults, the speed of regular archers and the stopping power of a cave troll, all in a unit that you can hide in a tower. The only balancing force for these guys is how expensive and time consuming they were to make. I can't imagine you'd ever be able to pump them out in a PVP match.

For melee infantry, counter with axe throwers. For archers, make 2 cavalry units and watch the video to see how to use them. For walls, they are a high cost/high risk investment, not a good idea for early-mid game :(

TMW: Midgeman there's a glitch where if you put archers on the wall by the top of helms deep they almost have infinite range, it's kinda tricky to do it though and it might not work on all versions

Winner2003 Thats why its a 1.00 patch. Thousands of patches were made after the unlmited archer range thing, and kept coming unoffically as well. Gamereplays community made a lot of awesome patches to balance the game, and its a lot of fun. But yeah, archer-helmsdeep thing was so much fun lol.

My strategy was to make a custom human hero with nothing but the fully upgraded "summon army" spell. If I remember right, there is no cost, the cool down is low, and you summon about 6 platoons of soldiers with each cast. Balanced :D

the best thing to do when playing goblins is constantly attacking the enmy farms with hordes of infantry, while building up a force of half-trolls, back them up with a couple of giants... and done

@@Heidenspross Correct me if wrong, but could be countered by putting an archer or 2 in towers near a chokepoint to render the infantry useless while mustering an army of your own. Since they would spend more on goblins than a tower and 2 average archers, they would theoretically be able to get a better army or atleast an equal army to stand up to them. Only problem is if your mordor, which can't put archers in towers.

Ahh, yes the heroes were perfectly balanced. I had some Dwarf number 7 that had a jump and like 4 earthquake abiities. Youd send him somewhere, and he would just destroy a whoe army and the base. Then youd wait for cd and send him to destroy another faction

My favorite experience playing this was when I played war of the ring and was attacked by a dwarf army. The dwarf hero, at level 1, walked right past my three battalions of elf archers and 1v1'd my fortress while my archers fired at him. He broke it and killed one archer group and by then there were two dwarf warrior groups approaching and I had no money.

That game was so much fun to cheese... Having trouble holding the enemies off? Make sure you leave a path open into your castle... make sure it's a long zigzag line and in plain view of archers. loved the game

I remember playing this once at an internet cafe. It was an FFA with my friend and his brother, but we were on a crescent shaped map with me in the middle. I was an elven faction, and immediately crippled my friend’s brother with just my hero and the Tom Bombadil support power. My friend didn’t attack for a long time because he was a human faction and turtled up, building a huge army which appeared when I had very little army because I was just building one of everything to learn what it was. Luckily, I grabbed the Ring just then and destroyed his whole army with Galadriel.

My best memory of this game is being Saruman in Rivendel, using towers to shoot down any elves that came for my gate (i built an ARMY of guard towers, nothing came through), then spending 45 minutes to build enough mines. I took down all my enemy's buildings until they couldn't create any more units. Then i made a line of mines from rivendel to isengard, where the elves were holed up (oh the irony) and circled around the fortress too for good measure. 45 minutes of fuckery to create one chain reaction to blow up isengard. Ah, good times.

I came in second in a school-tournament the first and only time I played this game. Played defensively and racked up score to win the time victory. It's an annoying way to play the game, but if you've played the game for a long time and still lose to a first-timer, you don't really get the right to be salty about it, because at the end of the day, _you're the one who sucks._

it's only a cakewalk on easy... if you play a hard AI you can still loose, take mordor, cast the tainted ground, send several waves of weak orcs to keep them occupied, then hit the flank with some haradrim lancers, and clean up with a couple of trolls... done there is a way to beat every troop type

best memories of the game are maxing out armies with friend and sending them to battle then we both span our powers and afterwards both armies are totally destroyed and not an inch of ground was gained. Balrog is op as fuck and can pop up under your army sending everyone flying, as is army of the dead, which aragon and men can use virtually creating an invincible army.

I remember this game, I played nothing but humans, swarming the enemy with rangers + fire arrow just ruins the AI

Or could use custom elven hero with passive attack upgrade so he ends up being able to do fun things like being able to kill a mumakil in two shots, solo sauron and have a generally unkillable hero in general

So how exactly did you find this? I cant find it online or steam and I've never seen an "HD edition"

i've played C&C games, Star Wars empire at war, Dawn of War 2, Supreme Commander 1 & 2, Halo Wars 1 & 2, and (little Known Classic) ParaWorld. the only Middle Earth Games i've ever played are Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War, and Guardians of Middle Earth. yet you have me intrigued.

you can level your faction to just make yourself even more op. if you do war of the ring and set campaign mission to take a specific point and then you set yours and the enemies start point next to eachother then send all units you have to their map point and auto resolve. you will win everytime and gain a ton of faction xp. i played this a little too much .-.

Such nostalgia this was my favourite game back in the day. Sad its not still around.
