Fact they ran nascars at Bathurst on at least 2 occasions in the 90s and they were slower overall but did break 300kmh down the straight

Nascar lap times were about 2.5 percent off the australian series lap times, which was weird as the nascars were built for oval racing.. turned out their chassis was also a proper race track weapon.

​@@kpcartthey run different cars for the circuits. They look similar, but the oval cars are all set up to bias left and deal with the high banking. The road coarse cars are still big brutish animals with Fred Flintstone brakes, but they'll at least turn right. If you want to see how crazy that oval bias can get, check out some Dirt Modified, which is a series where a lot of NASCAR drivers cut their teeth. Another class, the paved oval Super Modified, get so extreme that some have the engine essentially built to hang out of the left side of the car, so that driver sits beside it rather than in front of or behind it. Those things crack 160 mph on tracks that look suitable for a 100m dash.

For being 100lbs heavier, one gear shorter, and with no real aero compared to the supercar, I'd say it's effectively a draw. No idea on the mileage NASCAR would get in a race or how their tires would hold up- maybe they'd get a jump on a pit stop over a 6-hour race, since NASCAR drivers are used to doing that stint?

typical nascar fuel mileage is ~85-90miles/137-145km, a bit lower on road courses, and tire longevity varies from track to track (it depends on what goodyear brings to the table) but a good estimate is that a set of tires will last an entire fuel run

@@ray.shoesmith Stock cars have some aero via a diffuser and a small spoiler, which when compared to supercars/GT/any other sports car series is woefully insufficient to generate a lot of downforce. However, we current have a wonderful datapoint between the two via Mr. van Gisbergen's results at road/street circuits in NASCAR. We definitely need another season or two to get sufficient data.

-1.5 secs a lap though. So yeah it was close after 1 lap from a standing start but after 5-6 laps the supercar is a dot in the distance. The lack of downforce is really hurting the Nascar at the top of the mountain. The other thing is the Nascar wasn't reeling the supercar in down Conrod straight. I actually expected the Nascar to get the past at Mountain straight

NASCAR only runs a restrictor plate at Daytona and Talledega. This reduces HP around 450-500. Modern Cup Series engines run an ethanol blend fuel and have a lower compression rating. Cup cars never hit 950hp. From what I have read, the top teams were able to hit around 800 and change. Even with all that extra horsepower, the drag on the older cars still only allowed them to run 210-ish at the end of the straightaways on tracks like Michigan and Pocono. In 2013-2014 with improved aerodynamics cup cars were pushing 230mph corner entry speeds which probably would have ended catastrophically. In the late 1980s, the then Winston Cup Series were running Daytona and Talledega without any power restrictions. Race speeds were 215-220mph. Bobby Allison was involved in a horrific crash where his car became airborne and tore into the protective catch fence surrounding the track. He somehow survived and no one was killed in the stands. Had NASCAR not stepped in and brought the power down, I don’t think they would exist today.

Considering nascar predates supercars, I'd say the opposite is true. V8 super cars is just european influenced nascar.

Be a cool video to test the next gen NASCAR at Le Mans vs a URD Corvette and a GT3 with NASCAR having the Garage 56 entry in 2023. I did a test with it using the Gen6 NASCAR, and I beat a GT3 by around a second thanks to the long straights. Next Gen doesn't have as much HP though with the restrictor as the Gen 6 so probably won't be able to utilize the top speed advantage as much. Does have better aero for road courses.

I think the GT3 record is 3-4 seconds faster around Bathurst. I imagine they're faster at the top of the mountain thanks to all the aero and assists, but the Supercars have a higher top speed so would make up some ground on Conrod. I think it would make for some interesting racing with a full grid though!

Bathurst is actually disadvantageous to the supercar. It has low speed corners and long straights. Both give the advantage to the NASCAR cup car

NASCAR´s Next Gen is mutiple seconds faster now. Wider tyres, ground effect, less drag, better steering, less weight, independent suspension, from 4-speed manual to 5-speed sequential... It´s a lot closer to the Supercar now. You saw the NASCAR sliding a bit too

@@thatonenigeriansformula it really is. One of the main problems of the 2022 season with this car was the lack of passing at short tracks and having 800 horse power would likely fix that problem. The cars are safe enough to have more power again. Doesn’t make much sense to keep slowing the cars down

NASCAR's motto, for the past several years, has been something like: slower is better racing. The lap times with Next Gen versus older cars aren't even close. The cars are so much slower now, even though they have wider tires and much bigger brakes. 2014 was the last time they saw real horsepower, when they were over 950 on some tracks. Now they choke them down with restrictor plates (AKA tapered spacers). They lost at least one fan after 2014.

Super cars sit slightly higher off the ground and use the wing for downforce whereas nascars are low and get sucked down to the ground { for oval racing } Supercars have slightly softer suspension to deal with the chicanes and I believe they have a locked diff so i would imagine they are a bit of a handful to drive around corners.

But according to everything I read, the previous generation Cup car and mid to late teen V8 supercars were nearly identical lap times, when they did a swap at COTA. The Cup car blasted by in the straights and V8 supercar caught up in the turns. Of course, the Next gen Cup cars are slower in every track they race, from speedways road courses.
