Battle of Badgam: India's 1st PARAM VIR

Battle of Badgam was a military engagement between the Indian armed forces and the troops of Pakistan regular army and tribesmen of the north west frontier region. It was fought on 3 November 1947 near the village of Badgam near Srinagar. It was in this battle that Major Somnath Sharma displayed unprecedented courage against a numerically superior force and laid down his life and was posthumously awarded India's first Param Vir Chakra, the highest gallantry award.
बडगाम की लड़ाई भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों और पाकिस्तान की नियमित सेना के सैनिकों और उत्तर पश्चिम सीमा क्षेत्र के आदिवासियों के बीच एक सैन्य लड़ाई थी। यह 3 नवंबर 1947 को श्रीनगर के पास बड़गाम गांव के पास लड़ा गया था। इस लड़ाई में मेजर सोमनाथ शर्मा ने संख्यात्मक रूप से बेहतर सेना के खिलाफ अभूतपूर्व साहस दिखाया और अपना जीवन लगा दिया और उन्हें मरणोपरांत भारत के पहले परमवीर चक्र, सर्वोच्च वीरता पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

Major Somnath Sharma who also reknown as ' Tiger of Badgam '. 1947 Kashmir insurgency was deeply rooted from British time. Despite, Jammu & Kashmir was the princely state in British India, but time to time Britishers interfered into the internal politics of Jammu Kashmir. In 1931 the 2nd Round Table Conference time, Maharaja Hari Singh one of those member from Princely state who expressed his opinion on favour of Union i.e strong centre. All the powers are restored in the hand of central authority, where Mohd Ali Jinnah & Muslim league deliberetely opposed the proposal. Because Mohd Ali Jinnah never on the favour of strong centre, rather than states must be under autonomy status. 1935 Govt. of India Act where the federal govt. was decided in India & later the bicameral legislature was implemented in centre & dyarchy rule in provinces was abolished. In 1928 Neheru report where mentioned all fundamental rights never implemented under British rule, but in Jammu Kashmir where different law was imposed by the Britishers. Praja Parishad was exist as body in political circle & fundamental rights were existed from that time in J&K. After the arrival of Sheikh Abdullah the situation suddenly changed, Sheikh Abdullah launched a political party i.e Muslim league Conference of J&K. He deliberately provoked the people of J&K against the monarchy rule & in small time frame he established himself as popular leader. In 40's era when the communal agenda was floated by Muslim league & Jinnah vocally supported the two nations theory. Then Sheikh Abdullah suddenly changed his party name i.e National Conference & set back from Muslim league. Because Sheikh Abdullah never lost the trust of Pandit Neheru & Congress who favoured him against Maharaja. Despite, Maharaja & Britishers both of them fought against axis power in Asia in WW II, but the relation suddenly irked when Britisher scraped the sovereignty of J&K. Mirwahis another influential personality in J&K who was orthodox Islamic radical mindset & always favoured the opinion of Jinnah. Once upon a time Mirwahis & Sheikh Abdullah were the front line political power in J&K. But later for the lack of trust issue, both of them separeted, Mirwahis on the favoured of Pakistan & after partitioned he was left India. From 1947 the scenario was drastically changed when Maharaja declined the proposal of Mounbatein to joined with any of the nations in any circumstances. In India where most of Monarchies were downfall on that time, because for the land reform initiated by Pandit Neheru. Otherside in Pakistan i.e Islamic state where a hindu ruler how to survive i.e also the concern for Maharaja. In J&K where almost 70% population were muslim under Maharaja & for that reason he also showed the reluctance to joined with India. In 1947, already Mohd Ali Jinnah offered Maharaja that if he will join with Pakistan his monarchy status will not abolish. On the geographical region, J&K had better access with Pakistan than India. Most of trade of J&K was running via Pakistan..Muzaffarabad to Pakistan railway link was set up under British regime. But, Maharaja declined the Jinnah's proposal & signed the standstill agreement that he will never joined with India in future. But, Jinnah the selfish, egoist person who already lost the Junagadh & Hyderabad both of the princely states where rulers were muslim but majority of population were hindus. On the based by the direct military intervention Sardar Patel annexed those states. Despite, Nizam was the biggest supporter of Pakistan & he funded the millions of rupee to Jinnah as package. Nizam was the financer of Pakistan govt. on that time, because Pakistan administration had bankrupt from the earlier day. Despite, Razakars under Nizam plundered the Hyderabad & masacred civilian in mass scale, but all the perpetraitors were flee from India when Operation Polo was launched by General Jayant Chaudhary. After the partition, the J&K issue was not to resolved, & Jinnah plotted the mockery with Maharaja by another way. Despite the military were divided between the two nations but some of their officers still engaged on their posts & waiting for their transfer letter on behalf of new govt. Eventually, the incident was happened that connected with the Kashmir insurgency. In 1947, Douglas Gracy was the charge of Pakistan army & he plotted the Operation Gulmarg to invade in Jammu Kashmir where front line fighters were tribal laskars. Accidentally, the secret letter was handed to Major Kalkat & he awared about the conspiracy. After so many obstacles in Pakistan, he survived & successfully arrived in Delhi. Operation Gulmarg was the masterplan of Kashmir invasion which plotted by Douglas Gracy. Major General Akbar Khan in Pakistan who also aligned with the conspiracy. Later this guy written a book i.e The Raiders in Kashmir which detailed account on the Kashmir insurgency. Oct 22 the plan was executed & Oct 24 when Ibrahim Khan who declared rebellion against Maharaja & Gilgit Scouts also rebelled & inclined with invaders. The first martyr was Rajendra Singh the commander of Maharaja who was the dogra to fought at the last breath against invaders. Later Maharaja send a telegram to Mounbatein for help & the instrument of accession was signed in Delhi on Oct 26.
