Corregidor is one of the small islands in the Luzon Island, 13,000 American soldiers retreated in the island, But, Suddenly, Japanese soldiers invaded the island of Corregidor, The American Army lost the island, Also died in the battle, & Japanese soldiers occupied the island (as of 1942/05/06/10;30). PART 2: The Corregidor Island is occupied still by the Philippine Commonwealth (United States of America colony) at this time of the year, 1942, Well, President Roosevelt had a speech in December, 7, 1941 where President declares a war in the Empire of Japan (Japanese Empire). So that's why Japanese soldiers invaded the Philippines. The Corregidor is calm at first invasion. in December, 8, 1941, Until some moments in May, 6, 1942, When the invasion come in with the Japanese Empire, and the United States of America. The Japanese took it faster for like, few hours of this invasion, The invasion of the Philippines was becoming so intense over the next few weeks as more guns were bought up. GIBRALTAR OF THE EAST: Corregidor, officially named Fort Mills, was the largest of four fortified protecting the mouth of Manila Bay and had been fortified prior to World War I with powerful coastal artillery. Some 4 mi (6.4 kilometers) long and 1.5 mi (2.4 kilometers) across at its head, the tadpole-shaped island was 3.5 mi (3.0 nmi; 5.6 kilometers) from Bataan. Its widest and elevated area known as Topside, held most of the fort's fifty-six (56) coastal defense guns and mortars, and twenty-eight (28) 3-inch antiaircraft guns, besides the three-story "Mile-Long Barracks." Middleside was a small plateau containing battery positions as well as barracks. Bottomside was the lower area, where a dock area and the civilian town of San Jose were located, besides the controlled-mine complex. Americans called it "The Rock" or even the "Gibraltar of the East" comparing it to the fortress that guards the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea between Europe and Africa. The tunnel syatem under Malinta Hill was the most extensive construction on Corregidor (Fort Mills). It contained a main east-west passage 1,400 ft (430 m) long and 30 ft (9.1 m) wide, with 25 lateral passages, each about 400 ft (120 m) long, which branched out at regular intervals from each side... The naval landing in the Philippines occurred 10 hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt's speech came more than ten hours after the invasion of the Philippines; Japan did not invade the Philippines because the US declare war on the Empire. The first battle of the war between Japan and the Allies/America was on December 8 at Kota Bharu, about an hour before Pearl Harbor. The international date line has a funny way of screwing shit up and a lot of historians have messed up the order of which things happened in the theater because they use local times rather than universal time. The War in the Pacific started on December 8, and then on December 7 Pearl Harbor was attacked. Here's the order, using GMT: Kota Baru 17:00 GMT December 7 Pearl Harbor 18:18 GMT December 7 Philippines 02:00 GMT December 8 Washington DC 17:30 GMT December 8

As a filippino, ill explain what happened \/ Battle of Coreggidor Island is part of the early Phillippine Champain during the Second World War, it lasted for 11 hours in a span of 1 Day, the defence is also part of the defence of Manila Bay, there are also smaller fort in manila bay, one in particular is Fort Drum or El Fraile Island or Concrete Fort, the Jappanese won the battle, forcing a large portion of American forces to surrender while some escaped and joined the Filipino Luzon Gurilla Fighters, the lost of Corregidor was a major blow to the American-Filippino forces as this caused to loose control over Manila Bay, leaving the Phillippine Capital, Manila City, to be exposed, Causing General Mc Aurther ordering the city to be decleared a open city to prevent any battle in manila,, but other forts like El Fraile lasted longer than the acctual battle du being armed with heavy Naval cannon, but sadly, it will fell too and be destroyed, the fort is still standing till this day.

Manila had already fallen by this point. Corregidor was the last point the US held in northern Philippines and the last serious US resistance in all of Philippines. MacArthur was already long gone by this stage.

@@Fortnite702 Pro-tip: don't trust numbers from wikipedia. Use critical thinking instead. The US, at the height of their power in the Pacific, only landed some 60,000 troops on the first day of the invasion of Okinawa. Yet this video is suggesting that the Japanese landed 75,000 troops on Corregidor in twelve hours. With that kind of amphibious power they could have invaded New Caledonia, Fiji, Australia, and perhaps even Hawaii. But the Japanese didn't because they weren't actually capable of landing so many troops at once.
