Here here! Just consider the jump in complexity from _Speed Racer_ to _Gatchaman._ As children we could see the obvious transcendence. There's no way we could understand this at the time, but that epic transcendence was because lead animator & creator Tatsuo Yoshida very deliberately made _Battle of the Planets_ his masterwork. I would later come to understand this was Tatsuo's aim toward making the largest impact he could- - - - for his life's work to make a forever impression, for the very same reasons that Walt Disney so passionately & tenaciously made _Snow White_ everything that it is. Walt was no longer satisfied with simple _cartoons._ And he readily understood that with the unprecidented, unique artistic manpower at his command, plus the advent of Technicolor & shortly before that the invention of film with a magnetic tape soundtrack, he was the first man exclusively positioned to demonstrate animation in it's noblest form. Not as a cartoon, not simply as entertainment, but as high art brought to life to its fullest potential- - As though a Renoir, Rembrandt, or Michelangelo painting, but brought to life through animation & color film 🎨 🖌

Absolutely splendid, m'lady! Accolades & best of success to you. Hoyt Curtain himself would be utterly amazed... Even among classically trained musicians, I honestly do not believe just anyone can pull off _Battle of the Planets._ *_ESPECIALLY_* that original leading coronet part. Good grief, I what I would've done to be in Hanna-Barbera's sound studio that day & seen Hoyt & his orchestra in action, recording that theme. Or, just to be able to see it in film footage. But, no one was filming that day, 'cause from the p.o.v. of Hoyt & his musicians it was all in a days work. Plus during the days & weeks of production, they had no idea just how much of a smash hit _BOTP_ would become. How much less they knew how significant it would be in Television History For millions of GenX kids, the excitement of watching _BOTP_ in it's debut year (1978) was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us. It is truly epic. The closest comparison I can attempt is maybe the opening day of Disney's _Lion King,_ Pixar's original _Toy Story,_ or even Don Bluth's _Secret of NIMH_ from long ago As a GenX I have the incomparable benefits of being raised on or else having known 50 years of Contemporary Orchestra/ 20th Century Symphony. And in my top 5 stands Hoyt Curtain & his _Battle of the Planets,_ Franz Litz's _Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,_ & Paul Mauriat's eternal rendition of _Love Is Blue._ Thank You so much for putting your work onto KZbin, Samara. *Orchestral musicians live on! ! !*

Holy smokes! I clicked on this while looking for the American intro to BotP and saw this and decided to check it out mostly out of curiosity. I was blown away at how well she adapted many parts of the theme song to sound incredibly well for the lower pitch of the cello. Nevermind she had to record 10 tracks to get it to sound this amazing. I can't imagine how many takes it took to get it to sound this good. Simply inspiring.

She is SO talented! I hope she can play Jem and the Holograms first season theme song!!! That was my FAVORITE cartoon, growing up in the mid 80s.
Respectfully, now, you *_hope_* she can play _Jem & Hologram?!_ As a musician with 20 years on strings & as many years closely observing brasswind & woodwind players, please allow me to share something with you: Among the full range of instruments in an orchestra, when played with expert rapidity, the very _fastest_ in an orchestra are the piano & violins. And directly behind violins- - practically nosetip & nosetip for speed of execution (rapidity) are 3 & 4 valve brasswinds. Thats the coronets, the clarion, the piccolo trumpet & the trombones. (That's all horns EXCEPT the slide trombone, the french horn, the tuba, & baritone. These are too slow) Bottom line: the only other instruments/ musicians that can compete for rapidity on the same level as piano, violin, and 3 & 4 valve trumpets & trombones are acoustic guitar, electric guitar, & electric bass Samara has accomplished a level of rapidity thats uncommon even among cellists: as demonstrated so well in this multi-part performance, she has the ability to perform in AT LEAST double time (that's 100 to 120 b.p.m. or "100 MM" to "120 MM" on the metronome) in perfect synchronicity with the very best violin & coronet (the common trumpet based in "F" key) players If you're a non-musician, then I could be flooding you with waaay too much information here! And if that's the case, please don't take it like I mean to intimidate you or humiliate you. I'm just very passionate about Contemporary Orchestra, that's all. In the end, with all of this having been considered, it's actually very simple... The next time you listen to Hoyt Curtain & his orchestra perform their original rendition of _Battle of the Planets_ just focus on the player performing lead trumpet for the theme. This is the speed of execution at which Samara performs CELLO! ! Any conductor worth his salt as an arranger & especially for his years playing his own chief instrument would be thrilled to see a cellist like her in action. When compared to playing violin, cello is more muscularly demanding, plus a cellist has to be able to quickly span a much larger fingerboard to stay on tempo. The only thing more demanding & awkward is an orchestral bass. So, anyway, evidently Samara has the very fastest execution of any cellist. And although I haven't heard _Jem & Hologram_ yet, I'm sure she can play it very well 🎹🎻💕💕 Thank you for tolerating all this blither! I just can't help myself this time

There's no overstating Hoyt Curtain's musical genius, whether its the Jetsons, Whacky Races, The original Justice League (from 1980), or even Dick Dastardly & Muttley/ Stop the Pigeon. But Battle of the Planets is Hoyt's ultimate anthem, as far as I'm concerned- - his masterwork 🎼 🎺 🎹 🎻 Another unsung hero is head writer/ producer Jameson Brewer & his team of writers, also head writer/ co-producer David E. Hansen. Within the span of 24 months this group of 12 men managed to re-write all 85 teleplays for the American adaptation of the original Gatchaman. (BOTP) Granted, thanks to Tatsuo's & his artists groundwork, these stories were already established for all episodes. Still, no small creative feat Thank You for contributing! Good to know there are others like you that appreciate Hoyt's musical contribution, & of course the breathtaking, magnificent high art of Tatsuo Yoshida & his artists

Astonishing. I loved this as a kid. Watched just to hear the music. Have remastered version with no talking on my playlist. I got older (you can’t grow up AND be a musician, its one or the other 😂) I learned to play, then a little theory and understanding. Its such a beautiful fanfare based piece. The repeated ascending runs are a phrasing nightmare and it’s actually an immensely complex piece of work for a cartoon series. Now, to see you play this in this way, on a cello, which as an instrument has quite simply the most beautiful voice there is, has absolutely made my week. Girl, you got hands that’d make Jimi Hendrix take up the cello on the spot. ❤️

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and the music was part of it. I always thought this song, and the original opening to Johnny Quest had the best theme songs for cartoons.
@randomize273 жыл бұрын
It amazes me how well you do these. Not only do you have to learn the song a dozen different ways, but I've watched how one cello will play different portions, in harmony with different other cellos. For example, let's say #4 is doing its own thing, then harmonizes with #6 before going back to it's own thing before syncing up with #2. Meanwhile #5 waits 6 bars before coming in to give #4 more resonance, then when #4 goes to help #6, #5 is aligning with #1, then joins #4 in harmony with #2...(not any particular video, but I've noticed it in several videos and it's AMAZING.)
