The reason why the American version of the PC Engine port of Splatterhouse changed Rick's mask to red is so that Namco and NEC won't get sued by Paramount Pictures...

Kind of silly since Paramount Pictures is also a thing in Japan.

You can unlock an emulated version of this on the Xbox 360 as an unlockable extra within the Splatterhouse reboot. In fact, all 3 original games can.
@RetroCore7 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's right. I have Splatter House on the 360. I didn't feature them though because they are just emulations of the Mega Drive or arcade games.

A gruesome & gory classic from Namco. It's a tossup between the arcade & FM Towns versions.

One of my favorite games of all time. Waited at the front door to Best Buy the day the Namco collection came out for the Switch this year just so I could officially own the Arcade rom!!! 😁

It sure is a classic. I always thought it was a wasted opportunity not bringing this out on the Mega Drive. It would have made the trilogy complete on one system.

True. It's things like that which make me think it's not pure emulation. Also, the game does need to be installed as well.

Retro Core Yeah. Strange how it didn't get a Genesis port, considering that Namco went on to make the next two exclusive to the Genesis. Splatterhouse 2 is the sweet spot in the series for me.

I never knew that this was an arcade game, I first knew of this when C+VG reviewed the PC Engine version. It looked awesome and they loved it. I did have the PS3 reboot for a little while and wasn't that impressed though, it seemed repetitive and a case of style over substance. How does it compare to the original?

Awesome video! I am not sure between the arcade version and the windows version, the fm towns version looks amazing and it's very close to the arcade, The pc engine is inferior but still well done for a console like the pc engine, overall that was a nice and creepy game, and one of the first games to show funny gore gameplay.

I wonder how this game did not receive infamy for being gory back in the day? Because, compared to it, Mortal Kombat looks quite tame. Also, how on the Earth people behind Friday 13th, did not sue the crap out of Namco? I mean homage is one thing, but protagonist is essentially Jason, just with different name.
@RetroCore8 жыл бұрын
To be fair, in japan this kind of "homage" was quite common but in the US they did change the mask and blood colour to save on any complaints.
@ShadowSumac8 жыл бұрын
Retro Core I know, but I though that Splatterhouse was popular outside of Japan, and even with different mask similarities between Rick and Jason are kind of on the nose. Guess, back then people didn't care much about this stuff. I pretty sure it wouldn't fly today.

You missed the java version. i hated it. the controls are not all that great. There was also a Virtual Console version of the arcade game for japan,but it seems to be the same aside from some differences on the copyright information. The PC Windows version is neat cause it handles audio via wav files. I actually wanna see if i can mod it to improve the sound,but the game doesn't run unless i'm mounting it,that doesnt let me mod it. I ran it on Windows 10 by the way. it worked fine.
