The Pro Staff 97 is an incredible racquet once you add a bit of weight to the handle. The perfect combination of control and power. And I love the string pattern where the centre strings are spaced more closely together, giving the ideal launch angle off the stringbed.

@@CroqueMadame I love the Signum Pro Poly Plasma. Outstanding tension maintenance, good feel, German made and inexpensive. I recently ordered a whole reel for $80AUD. It's best to string this one at lower tensions (I strung my PS97 at 47lb) and it will pretty much maintain its playability till it breaks. If you prefer shaped strings, the Yonex Poly Tour Spin works well in the PS97, though it's more expensive than the Signum.

Great video! Awesome comparison. After killing my arm using the Prostaff for the last several years, I needed to switch to something softer. The Blade fit the bill perfectly. Since the balance is less head light than the Prostaff, I find that I can really crack it when I get it moving, getting the control desired.

Clash 98 is plush and a fine racquet but you have to buy in to the unique feel of Clash. Pro Staff is a dream in control. Slice is fantastic and my forehand was amazing with Pro Staff. Blade is in the middle. Good control and good feel.

What a fine video again. Great in depth review. When I used to hardly know anything about equipment, I used the Pro Staff 97L for about two months, loved the performance while demoing so I bought two. Came from a Blade 101L which I developed shoulder and elbow problems with. After playing more sessions, I noticed the pains in my arm aggravating. In the end: way too light frame with high stiffness, using it at a bad period in time. A year later, now I have tons of knowledge about equipment and am playing without pain with the VC95 and sometimes UT and UP18x20. All with comfortable string setups and modifications. And I've turned into an equipment geek. Not good for the wallet but so much fun. It made me discover your channel. I agree toning down the amount of work you put into one video and upping the frequency is a great way to go. I'm sure your videos will still be of high quality which sets you apart. I'm also reading a lot of praise about you on the Talk Tennis Forum.

@@ACTennis So true, there's tons of great rackets. So many I want to try or have in my collection, not a smart thing to do though. It doesn't help your game but I'll probably still end up trying and buying rackets over the coming years🤣. And I agree, there are no better or worse rackets (apart from those cheap beginner lines). Picking a racket that fits you best can be very hard though if you keep looking at other stuff lol, hence the growing collections of nerdy people. I won't mention that I have a Head Prestige Classic 600 and PS 6.0 85 (+ a free one with a crack) coming in the mail this week. Bought them cheap. Another rabbit hole to fall into (classic rackets). It's different to the v11 for sure, but still a great frame, i think the v11 was more suited towards being a lighter version than the RF, maybe a little softer than the RF, but v13 is quite the opposite type of racquet

I really enjoyed your comparison review of these 3 racquets. I can't say much about the Pro Staff as I have not played with it before. I recently bought a used Clash 98 and played with it for a few weeks with some hitting sessions. While it's a really good racquet, balls hit near the upper hoop really felt bad and brought some shock into my shoulder strung with Gosen Micro 16 at 52lbs. I agree that it takes time getting used to the feel. The Blade 98 v7 98 16x19 has a more forgiving sweetspot on off center hits and feels more solid. I believe that this has to do with the thick beam of the Clash and being very headlight. I also found with the Clash that to get its full potential you need to swing pretty hard and fast to get power. On the other hand, the Blade with a full relaxed swing achieves easier depth. I felt that the comfort is superior with the Blade. I added a few grams of lead at 10 and 2 on the Clash and still felt it lacked some stability against my hard hitting partner that hits a flat ball. IMO the Blade is more stable in stock form than the Clash and due to being more tip heavy. I grew up playing with thin beam racquets 30 years ago and used to a more traditional racquet. I also have some shoulder issues which get aggravated on bad mishits with stiffer frames. I am currently playing with the Prince Phantom 100p but like the feel of the Blade better. I might consider buying another Blade since I sold them a while ago. The Blade forces you to have good all around technique. The key is have a full relaxed swing and let the mass of the frame do the work. At 53, I am still a strong 4.0-4.5 player and have the ability to handle the SW of the Blade but need to make a true commitment to make it work for me.

Ive heard added lead really makes the Clash 98 into something special, just didnt feel like buying an older racquet at the moment since i'm doing a bit of a purge myself haha, probably helps with alot of those issues you mention, not to mention potential QC issues you just may never know about My partner has switched to the Blade, and is definitely developing your game to the next level, Blade is just a great racquet, even as theyve changed it in the V5 V6 and V7, all are good frames IMO

I tried some lead 2.5 grams on the Clash 98 at 3&9 and still felt it lacked some stability. I did notice the string pattern is very closed near the upper hoop which is part of the shock on off center hits. It's not a racquet I could change to. I don't play as much I used to, average 2 times per week so I don't know if the Blade is the answer over the haul as I get older, lol 😆. The Dunlop 200 CX looks like an interesting frame and has alot of room for customization. Right now there are alot of good racquets out there. I would rather get a racquet with a lower swingweight below 320 so I can weight to find the right balance. Take care 🙂!

Amazing Review! So comprehensive and I love that comparison table at the end, So I am really wanting to buy the clash 98 cause of tennis elbow that always comes back to haunt me for the past 10 years but that's my fault for always going back to using my Pure Strike and Pure Drive from time to time, I would consider myself a 4.0 to 4.5 and primarily use a Wilson ncode six one 95, Yonex Vcore 97 hd and the Prince Textreme Tour 95, however as I stated I always cant help going back to the Pure Strike 98 cause it has such good pop and power but then I always get tennis elbow, So I'm looking for something that has good power/spin and is veryy easy on the arm and in a way something that will replace the Pure Strike so that I don't feel tempted to keep using it, my Yonex is very soft but its quite hefty at about 345g, the Wilson Ncode weighs in at 352g and plays stiffer then its 64 rating tbh and lastly the Prince Textreme 95 is nice and plush (still feels a bit stiff at 64) but it just lacks easy power, I wouldn't consider myself someone who struggles to get power but I wouldn't mind a nice soft racket that generates a bit more power then my 3 aforementioned rackets, its a bit of a read I know lol but with what I've said do you think the Clash 98 would suit me? I just get a bit turned off as many people refer to it as a tweener and say it's not a players racket but considering that I already own a bunch of ''player's rackets'' its not like playing with the Clash 98 would stop me from improving my game right? I mean I've seen many amazing players over the years who use so called tweener rackets

The Clash 98 takes some getting used to in terms of feel , but if you have used pure drive then the beam thickness shouldnt be too much getting used to, if you just want to avoid tennis elbow completely, clash is definitely a good pick I use Gen 3 pure strike with a soft poly, havent experienced too many issues with that, but if youre prone to it then probs not a good idea Boom Pro or Boom MP when they come out may be up your alley if 64-66 stiffness isnt too bad for you and you want maybe similar attributes

Though Head Hawk Touch is a bit stiff, even more than I usually use, it works really well with the racquet, still provides plenty of spin and extra control, 48lbs works pretty well for full poly, but maybe 45lbs could be better immediately off the stringer, because 48lbs needs to set in a little bit and drop before it plays better

PS97 V13 vs. V10 is like a different racquet, V13 is more controlled and feel orientated (though bit more muted) while V10 is more raw and stiff, more powerful I would put the V13, actually in between the two, as in the playability style, in terms of maximising my potential (personally) , both pro staffs would be easier to play with than the Prestige, though the Prestige is really nice for sure, but i don't think i could sustain my highest level of play with them for as long So Pro staff depends on whether you want more control or power, which is where you'd choose V13 or V10

My take to add on another amazing review of yours: 1) V13PS: classic feel, less power than CV, more control, feel is amazing on SS which it also gives you more byte, more stable than CV..... i still prefer V11 with the red stripes on 3/9.... it had more easy power and to me more direct feel. 2) Clash98: it was a big letdown for me. I f loved it’s pillow feel it’s even more soft/buttery than 100/100 tour.... i would like it to have even more thinner body and my main issue was in penetration.... yes it has plenty of easy power but due to its softness ball stayed too much on strings and as a result i couldn’t play fast and take time away from my opponent.... yeah it may sound funny to some but for me was a huge issue. 3) Blade is a 50/50 situation. It has great feel and ball connection if you ll compare it which most of the muted modern racquets but if you compare it with previous blades and specially the GOAT V5 it’s a big letdown.....why the f made it so soft and less stiff ? Free power of Blade has reduced by a lot..... older Blades had way more better feel and direct power. Sometimes it can become erratic it doesn’t give you the katana precision of older Blades and cause it’s more muted you don’t have the 100% Blade traditional confidence on where the ball was gonna land. Wilson should also ditch mate PJs and return to glossy paint job..... i also tested V7s with low SW and still felt cumbersome through the air.... at last spin potential on older Blades was higher. Everything was better.... Wilson should keep free flex tech only to Clash. You don’t mess around with the most well known racquet out there along with Pure Aero.

Still Blade CV offered tons of feel (more raw) but it became more stiff compared to the more plush V5....V6 CV had also more free power..... i enjoyed all the V6 CV line despite people bashing it on forums. My main issue with V6 CV line was huge pain on the forearm.... and i had the same issue after playing with 16x19 and 18x16.... also some pain at my wrist.... still today it’s the only Blade that hurt my arm.... the one that supposedly had the least of vibrations due to CV :P.......another great racquet with CV was the Burn line..... to me it’s the one of the best mislooked tweeners out there..... a Blade inserted on a 100inch thicker body.

V14 is essentially exactly the same with i would say improved feel, but i couldnt fault the v13 either, it can be very subjective, or to most people marginally noticeable

I think Gravity Tour has nicer feel, but Pro Staff overall plays better, but it requires to be quite a good level to play with properly - Gravity Tour has a terrible balance point in my opinion

Ive been using Pure Aero for 4 months but I bought a Pro Staff and waiting for it to be delivered. The Main reasons for the switch is Aero is not really good for my one-handed backhand and flat shots when I have to hit, also I wanted more control on my shots. But I still like the powerful and spiny forehand the Aero gives. Do you think I will also generate enough power and spin with PS? I am not sure if I would eventually regret my decision haha. I am a big fan of Federer which was also another reason for the switch.

You're not really going to keep such a forehand if you change from a Pure Aero to anything else mostly, but Pro Staff is a control racquet completely that's low powered - maybe Pure Strike could be an inbetween frame

Pro staff my favourite, but super control focused and low powered Blade is easier to transition to if you never played with a lower powered frame because speed packs a punch compared to Blade and PS So i would think Blade is a better choice for most people

The racquet in the intro is from one of my other videos, it's Kyrgios's personal racquet, which at the time was just painted as a DR but is actually an Xi model Unfortunately i think you are in the same boat as many other players who love the DR, very difficult to find something that is the same or matches it - the closest thing I've come across is just the Ezone Tour 2020, but it is much heavier in stock with a decently big swingweight for a junior (don't know if you weight up the DR or not) and is much more muted with contact, less feel, but the playability characteristics are all very good

I preferred the Prostaff v13 but the Blade 98 at the good swingweight may be more versatile, with bigger serves and more flex and ball pocketing, lots of control, more forgiving - basically i liked the Pro staff more but i'd probably win more with the Blade

Hi. I wanted to know if you could help me out. Unfortunately the country where I live I have no access to demos. I used to play a lot con a collegiate level and stopped playing completely for 17 years. Jus started playing again. I always had a Wilson pro staff (6.1, hyper, ncode and currently k factor sixone 95). Nowadays I'm over 35 and don't have the power I used to and also it's time to change my racket. I'm unsure on which of these 3 models might suit me best. How would the current prostaff compare to my k factor sixone? would it be almost the same? or should I switch to something more balanced like the Blade or Clash? hell maybe even pure strike? any input helps! sucks to not have demos here and my only help is to watch endless amounts of videos which in the end confuse me even more lol. New Pro Staff is quite different to those 6.1 95s, i used to use them as well- there's nothing that quite similar to the Pro Staff 95 these days If you switch to Blade or Clash they will be a completely different experience Vcore 95 is really popular, would be a really nice modern day upgrade, you will not find a racquet that is like the PS 95, but if you want something that is a great to transition to in general, because it's rated as a high quality racquet, then check this one out Just keep in mind, you would need to customize it, since it will be alot lighter to begin with compared to the PS95, it plays best when you add some lead tape just to make it heavier - look up some reviews for this one

@@ACTennis I had really bad experiences with the whole gravity line quality control. I got a pro and the static weight was within a couple of grams, but the head was ridiculously heavy with an unplayable swingweight. Ended up with an over spec MP instead that ended up within 5 grams static with an over grip, but a much whippier SW

@@zacattack5243 I think what happens is that the averaging of all SWs listed ends up decreasing the true SW if the spec is on point, so if you get a couple grams, it ends up being much more of a differential, but yeah i will never buy a new racquet without finding out the SW first or if i know the SW is passed my range of playability

Im using a ps 6.1 blx 100L and I love it but I Wanted to buy an “updated” version so I bought the ps v11 L Countervail.. unfortunately not the same feeling. The BLX is like autogenerate speed meanwhile with the ps v11 you get what you put in terms of speed. Which version you would suggest for me? Im kinda 4.5 level, thanks a lot. i love this game

Hi mate, thanks alot - tough to say because they dont quite make racquets like that anymore - theres a new PS100 v13 thats been made available at Tennis Warehouse US only in recent months has similar specs but still may be a bit less powered i assume - hard to get if youre not in US - and specs of 100L is not so common in current market - otherwise if you dont mind trying things out, try a Head Speed MP or Head Gravity MP, they will be softer feeling but are high quality 100sqin alternatives

@@mariodepanfils1091 Depends, if you can swing it well, and the weight is no problem, then it could be fine - if you just want a good racquet that alot of people like, then Head Speed MP (Graphene 360+) is a good choice, whether or not you want the L version is up to you, same with Head Gravity MP - might take a little bit to adjust, but once you do, they are great racquets for alot of players

Wilson Clash 100 isn't a bad racquet at all, i just didn't like the look of the original lol, i would probably still have one now if the new paint jobs came out when i originally bought it in 2019 Gravity MP, Blade 98, Radical MP all good options

Even though Blade has the higher SW by alot, it's much easier to use, the PMP is far less forgiving, although the feel i would say is really nice, since the Blade is a muted flex, spin potential is roughly the same, Blade has a bit more power from memory, both serve very well, and PMP is a bit lacking in stability without lead in stock

The only way is to check with the company you buy, ask them to measure to the specs you are looking for, you might need to pay extra though, but if you are serious or dont want to waste all that money on a bad specd racquet, might be worth

Hi buddy, I know this is quite an old video, wanted to get your quick take on if I’m looking to move from a v7 blade 98 18x20 to a pro staff v13 just due to the high swingweight on the blade that makes it hard to swing for hard winners sometimes. In order to take advantage of the easier spin and power due to the stiffness and string pattern in the ps, but to still keep a lower swing weight. Would there be a certain amount of weight you’d recommend to the ps?

PS is going need to be weighted a bit aswell, and its not going to be any more powerful than the Blade 18x20 really , they are both control racquets, if anything PSv13 is more punishing and less forgiving if you dont account for swingweight

@@justinkong6906 It all just depends on your received swingweight - mine was like 314 from memory, i added 2g each side at 10 & 2, that would of made it around low to mid 320s and worked out pretty well

Unstrung swingweight is around 27-30 points lower than what you will try to play with usually, but it doesn't always work out perfectly because it depends on how the weight is balanced when it's unstrung

I was only doing Wilson's 3 big lineups here haha :), PS Gen 3 is a really nice racquet to be honest, aside from the muted feeling, the Pro Staff is just a completely different racquet in terms of playstyle, as the Strike will provide you with loads of free spin and power and some decent control, where the Pro Staff will provide you with nicer more connected feel, but no free power, at a heavier static weight, and is also stiffer than the Strike

@@ACTennis very nice!! actually my complaints about PS lies on muted feel AND high SW.. i do like stiff frames (i also have a pure drive vs and I like it, despite its lack of stability and weight), so I probably would miss the free power, however I think pure strike is almost too much (I have to compensate with higher tension ~54 lb on firm poly). All that said, I believe I could enjoy the pro staff.. thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts!!

@@WagnerRodeski The problem with the Pure Strike are the wild specs. I strung two recently for a friend and one had a 342 SW and the other one was 328SW with a 6g difference between the two!

Hey man, I play with a clash 100 tour right now, I’m looking for something with just a little bit more power and control. I’ve been looking at a ezone 98 tour, or a pure drive tour. What other racquets would you recommend

Ezone 98 Tour will be a total control racquet with low power compared to the Clash, the clash is already a powerful racquet, the only thing that would beat it for power noticeably would be the Pure Drive, but you wouldnt get more control if you are adding power Also the sacrifice of Pure Drive is feel is much worse, and the potential for arm issues with the stiffness is on the high risk end So if you want more power, might be unlikely to find many things better balanced than the Clash, Pure Aero might be the be better than the Pure Drive because stiffness is lower, but i dont typically recommend either of those racquets, personally i think Clash is better

Clash 100 or Clash Pro is an option if you don't like the stiffness, it will take a little bit to get used to, but will still provide you with good power and spin - or Yonex Vcore 98 will also be good, that is in between

Really depends on the swingweight you receive, if you receive over 340 with a head heavy balance (like above 32.5cm) then it might be a lost cause lol - for mine at 336 SW i can get away with just 7g in handle, or 15g to make it really nice to use

Great reviews! I’m an intermediate player that has been using Pure Aero for many years. Recently I feel that Pure Aero gives me too easy spin and power even if I don’t use the correct swing. It feels like it’s “cheating” me. I would like to improve my techniques. I’m thinking about switching to a more control oriented racquet to “teach” me good techniques. I recently demoed many racquets and narrowed down to Ezone 98, Vcore 98 and Blade 16x19. Which one do you think is the best choice for my situation? Or should I switch at all? If you feel like you want to advance your technique then go for something less power and spin orientated sure - real technique would be better built with a Blade, but obviously it comes with good coach / learning - Vcore 98 may be a little more similar to the Aero but bit more controlled, so if you don't want to change drastically then that is the other option - Ezone is a little in between i would say, so it really depends how far you want to go with the transition to a different game, if just a little vcore, if not too extreme, ezone, if you want to really try something different than the blade

It's a love / hate racquet, certainly got pumped hard with promotion, but some people really like the frame, i play pretty well with it, and it works nicely for people with any arm pains, other people just can't get used to the feel and the flex, can be too different, but to each their own
