I think Wilson died after the jump into the water. Because of the fact that Wilson is dead and all the people that saw him alive after the trench sequence are also dead, someone that outranks him or maybe a historian will paint Blackburn as a bad person, since the only person who could say otherwise (Wilson) is dead.

Undoubtedly the best story, and the game play felt more realistic than a tank driver single handedly wiping out the Argonne forest and clearing an entire town, or a woman murdering a battalion of ottomans, or a old aussie runner capturing a fort all alone

For those who don't realize, this is not the true story. This is how he wished it happened. What actually happened was he killed Wilson at No Man's Land, and was arrested for that along with stealing the plane. This is evident as Wilson told Blackburn he was a liar and had he saved him he likely wouldn't be in as much trouble, because Wilson vows to speak up for him at the court martial. In London, Blackburn never got in the plane, after Rackham was killed, he took his gun and freed himself and swam to the docks. Because he is seen without gloves and there is no possible way he could survive the fall from the airship. The only truth in the story was the first chapter. He did survive in the end to tell his version of the story, but he hinted how this was all bullshit.
