Thank you guys for making this! It's been awhile since I've been on here and seeing this in the feed like made my day. I think this is one of the unsung weapons of BF3, no one uses it. I think I can see about 5 people using it over the course of a week and thats when I play all days of the week with at least 5 hours of game time. It's a great close-mid sniper. This is my go to aggressive recon weapon. My sights vary from time to time, but I always keep a flash suppressor and foregrip on it.

Yes actually. In many games on console to prone you must hold down prone. On pc crouch and prone are usually two different buttons. It may not sound like much but it saves your ass a lot. Or if you're playing a game while you're holding more than two weapons on pc you can simply push a button instead of going into a weapon wheel. It saves you time which is time that could have gotten you killed. Especially with tactical shooters.

Never somehow found the right assignment for this gun, maybe because I tried to use it like a sniper rifle, and got frustrated that enemies dont drop after 2-3 hits.

You seemed to have missed the part where I said "Like Rainbow Six Vegas" In vegas, you DO need to go into a menu to change grenades and select fire. I wasn't talking about battlefield there. It was one example of menu.

Great review! It's my favorite weapon and I set it up as follows: Heavy barrel (the only semi-auto rifle that has this feature) to improve aimed accuracy, NO foregrip (again, increases aimed accuracy) and a reflex 1X sight. Yes, it is a three shot kill in normal mode but in a HARDCORE game it is a TWO shot kill. With its superior fire rate compared to the other semi-auto rifles, it is king of the recon class. Short range/long range makes no difference. It's the ultimate battle rifle.

A chrome lined barrel tends to be more corrosion resistant as well as being easier to clean and having easier extraction on a chromed chamber.But ,generally , non-chrome lined barrels are more accurate.

In 1946 the sks was intriduced to replace the mossin nagant bolt action in Russia. A year later the AK47 ( borrowing designs for the Garand, STG44, and more importantly the gas sysytem of the SKS) replaced the sks. Ther Ak was such a cheap and effective weapon it has been updated (AN-94, AEK) and rechambered (SV98, All 74 variants) over the years. Sorry for the history lecture, its my addiction.

@prophet. I don't know how many times this has to be stated. Its not the sniper class, its the recon class. I will continue to kill prone and stationary "snipers " as long as they try shooting at me from any distance with that flashlight they call a scope. Sks is an all around gun. Take out threats in windows as your team pushes or join the attack.

I absolutely love it. And I like to use iron sights sometimes, but if I have a sight on, it would be a RDS. There is just something about having that person in your iron sights and having the white x pop up in that little circle is so satisfying. I personally use iron sights sometimes.

What you said is exactly that, lol. A recoiling barrel is a rifle designed with a barrel that A.) Absorbs recoil via recoiling (going into the gun during shots) or B.) Recoils backwards to chamber the next round (like the AN-94 does, which inturn does the same thing as A.)

I prefer the M98B when playing as recon, but I can completely understand anyone who prefers the SKS, as it's my second favourite sniper, and a BEAST. I use it with a foregrip, suppressor/flash supp., and a HOLO. I prefer the stopping power and sense of achievement you get with the bolt action rifles, but this is definitely king of the semi auto's. This weapon is great. Love being able to play an aggressive recon role. Preffered set up is a foregrip surpressor and either the PKO or irnv scope.

ye but remember its just a game, and as cool as it is for Dice to try and keep the weapons as realistic and reflective of their real-life counterparts as possible, they also have to try and add as much variety while still keeping balance. I think they were just trying to give the recon class a weapon that could contend with guns from other classes in close to medium range; and i personally think they did a great job with it. Its unique..

Holo-supressor-bipod is where it is at. Run the MAV and you can dominate close quarters as well. I do like to use my pistol w/ under barrel sun for close quarters through.

if you use the SKS like an assault rilfe a foregrip is really helpful. If you spam the fire button you will gain a lot of accuracy with the foregrip.

Agree with you guys - this is a killer gun. Reminds me of «Valerine» (AS VAL) in many ways. High power and low recoil with a really nice sound

Flash supp. lowers upper recoil. When you fire a battle rifle in the game, it always flies upward, which sometimes misses your target. Using the flash supp. it lowers upper recoil, making the firing of the gun easier.

yes that may be true, but the sks is a semi automatic weapon which means although it may suppress more, a fully auto weapon will probably deal out more or at least equal amounts of suppression since you don't have to tap fire at close range

Well they are useful for detection and defence because they can use motion mines and MAV to find enemies and they can defend M-COMS and flags from a distance, keeping them safe and the objectives safe so they are useful but unfortunately misused as snipers too often.

Well they do have more rails on it, and it's more accurate than the other, earlier, AKs (though I don't know how it stacks up to the 107/108). They were mentioning how accurate it was when they were presenting it, and I saw some videos of it. Seemed good enough.

I use the M39 EMR, and when I switched between the SKS and the M39, I really didn't see or feel any major differences. I think there are damage differences, but I do love the M39's iron sights and the real steel weapon, so my opinion might be a bit more in my favor. I think both guns are great recon guns, and are the best semi-auto DMR's available in the game.

@Chris Carlyon Yeah I used to use it a lot in CQC on Metro and I consistently finished 1st in the match with most kills. Its a devastating weapon if you are a good headshotter in CQC

The Iron sight is blocked by the Barrel when shouting you cant see below the iron sight whilst aiming,,, Best Option is Holographic or Cobra!

I use this with the kobra, laser, and grip in medium range, and for the somewhat more long range precision stuff I use the qbu-88 sniper with the russian 4x, grip and laser

Better controls is a fact. A mouse will always, always, be more precise and faster to aim than a controller. That is why console servers do not mix with pc servers for shooters, and that is why you can not use a mouse and keyboard for games on consoles. Shooters were made for pc. Also, keyboards are not complicated. They are much better, especially for games like rainbow six vegas. Instead of going into a menu to change from full auto to semi auto. Just push one button. Saves your ass a lot.

Side to side recoil yes. But it will decrease your accuracy at long range. Clearly a lot of people don't understand what foregrip is used for. And again, i personally find using without foregrip.

I agree with euroshuttle, I usually encounter this weapon with people that love to spam the trigger. Sks and the m417 are really annoying to go up against as they do a lot of suppressive damage since they are in the recon kit. These are guns that don't really require all that much skill to use.

Glitch!!! When you just bought battlefield go to the store and buy the physical warfare pack. It says grants acess to the flash supp. To sks but it also unlocks it. Very useful for me

that day you were trying to play squad death match to unlock the L85, I went 24-1, 25-0, 22-2. on metro, bazaar, Tehran. with the SKS+holo, 94r set up. on conquest.

yeah i have, but i can just as easily spawn on a player. half of the spawn beacons i spawn on are on a mountain in the back of the map. not to mention anyone can spot, so that makes the recon kind of pointless, if their main job is to spot. and when recon does play the objective, they go in their with their bolt action and get killed. idk i just think that the recon doesn't have that much of a place in the game

I know what you mean about the recoil - the physical kick it gives is quite a lot but the overall drift is tiny!

Depends how you play the game, if you're aggressively flanking the enemy then the bolt actions (with your choice of sight) are the winner. I do agree though with you because the sks will beat a bolt action any day when two enemies go head to head.

I know the 100s are for export (103/104s were recently bought by Venezuela). Also dude, could you tell me what the fire rate on the AK-12 is? Wikipedia and other sources say "600/1000", and that's a pretty big gap. It's no help at all. I don't know if it's full auto/burst (like the AN-94), if it's for the other variants, or if people said it just to say something.

highly recomend not using a foregrip. ive sported this weapon many times and ive seen that no foregrip and a flash suppressor maximizes its acurasy

SV98 is a great weapon among that fastest in terms of ADS and reload time. But I might give the SKS a shot or two.

I love this gun. I routinely get 15-20+ Kill streaks with this weapon. you just have to know your role, and make sure you are not rounding corners with it. with a kick ass side arm like the 93R, you are damn near unstoppable.

Sniper rifles including the semi sks can osk in close quarters and 2 shot kill due to damage chest and head multiplyers. This gun is deadly at all ranges and is easily the best gun in the game.

I agree... but the other rifles could do the same thing if DICE took off the cap on ROF for the MK11, SVD, and M39 which is about a one round per second which to me is stupid and the only reason why the SKS even exists is specifically because of that cap. If those rifles didn't have that cap Recon class would be a much better class for people who like a balance between run and gun and holding down the fort... like me.

I actually prefer the Ak-107/108's recoil, the BARS balancing recoil thing, It has a high rate of fire, low recoil, and I'm pretty sure it keeps the reliability of an AK (even though this time it's not "Kalashnakov's rifle" it's "Alexandrov/Kalashnakov" after the designer that modified the AK).

I'm pretty sure that the AEK, AN-94, have their roots in the AKl. You're right in that the SV-98 not having anything to do with the AK though.

Looks just as good. First off, lolno. The xbox version is about the same as pc on low quality with absolutely no anti aliasing turned on. A $500 pc can do at least medium. Secondly, that doesn't say a thing about the actual gameplay. What about the 34 more players to play with and the better controls?

I think so too, but even if the vertical recoil was not reduced, i would not put a foregrip on this thing. That would of bin a sin. :)

If i play Recon, for me SKS is the way to go. My attachments are Heavy barrel and 3.4(PKA). I tried to use foregrip but it's just ruin the gun accuracy. I play on Hardcore so no matter how far the target is it's one shot to kill (HEADSHOT). Midrange it takes 2 to 3 shots to get kill. I use G18(Suppressed) pistol.

My favorite gun in the game! Wis hi had an HD PVR cuz yesterday in Rush on Metro i went 48 and 11 with the SKS red dot laser sight fore grip! no lie when i say i got a 10 kill spray with one clip and another 8 kill spray and many 4 or 5 kill feeds it was crazy!

Love this gun but i prefer to use the KOBRA instead of holo or magnified scopes because i dnt like losing peripheral vision plus I dont have much problem aiming at mid-longish range targets witht he KOBRA

Its very simmilar to the M14 from BC2. Unfortunatly for me, this gun gets really old really fast and now I only use it when there are annoying snipers but I need to have a gun for closer up combat. And thats really how I used the M14 from BC2.

Oh,sorry,it was in weaverguy's comment, so I had it in mind. I know the AN-94's design suppresses recoil until the bullet leaves the barrel or something like that. But what do you mean "recoiling barrel"? Sorry, my mistake on the AN being based on the AK. I guess it makes sense now. Thing is, it's costly, complex, and difficult to master, which is why even though it won the Akaban competition, it wasn't adopted by Russia's army (poor Nikonov. His rifle's the best, but it won't be the main one).

They're both beasts of guns. Mainly depends what map and game mode. I would never use a bolt action on TDM but i would give the SKS a try. Also on the train station in metro the sks works better.

AN-94 is a completely new design. I didn't say AEK, so why did you mention it? The AN-94 is a totally different mechanism with a recoiling barrel.

No fore grip & halo site! i am in third place on the PS3 with kills(BF stats)...only reason is that my controller is broke and this gun works for me...the vibration in the controller makes me start knifing if i use any full auto weapon...at least i was able to unlock all my weapons' 5th stars b4 this started happening....i have around 13000 kills with it

Depends, SKS is more versatile because of the rate of fire it has. It is a better gun for offensive sniping but it doesn't have the same 1 shot of a bolt action, even with a headshot. I still prefer the bolt actions but some people can have their favorite guns.

I've never had any problems with it reducing long range accuracy. That impossible, the foregrip steadies your aim, it does NOT effect how the bullet travels.

It actually kills people with a single headshot at close ranges. DICE gave the SKS the 2.4 headshot multiplier that shotguns have.

everybody says that but i just can't use it, probably because of the slow fire rate. I find using the M40, sv98, or the L96 is better especially for aggressive sniping
