Can we take a moment to appreciate Luthor's comments to Smallville Clark that the Superman on his own Earth couldn't possibly be Clark Kent. It's something I love about Lex Luthor in the comics. It's not that he's not smart enough to put 2 and 2 together about the alter ego, it's just that he outright REFUSES to even entertain the idea of Superman being in any way human. To do so would mean having to acknowledge that Superman is beloved, not because he's an alien with godlike power, but because he is genuinely just a better person than he is. It's not stupidity, it's ego. Which makes Lex just such a human villain.

They literally reference them with mention of his son (Superman Returns), and when he fought himself as Clark vs. Evil Superman (Superman III). Plus there were multiple other momentary cameos from other movie universes like Keaton's Batman movies. So all that remains is to determine if you are just trolling, or if you are a window licker.... *or both* ...

It pays tribute to what has come before whether successful (like Smallville) or not (Birds of Prey). It sees the good in a lot of the past productions though thankfully not that Justice League of America TV movie from the mid 90s. Nobody has fondness for that. Never understood why the Flash looked so bloody awful in that when 1990 Flash already showed the character could look great in live action years before.

love Smallville and so cool to see it officially part of the multiverse. good thing Earth 38 Supes got poofed outta there before seeing Smallville Lois and feel awkward about his alternate self with a woman identical to his aunt. Kara had some awkwardness when she commented of the buffness of who she thought was Ray but was another version of her own cousin. Legacy actors result in fun awkwardness. :D

By the way, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but I love that they, actually, remembered to give Brandon Routh blue contacts when he's playing Superman!! Brandon Routh has very dark eyes naturally but, when he played Superman, his eyes were blue (to match Christopher Reeve). Just a subtle thing but, I love that everyone put enough care into the characters included in this crossover that they, actually, remembered to add that detail in. (You can't always see his eye color in every shot due to the lighting but, the blue is most obvious in his close-ups at the Daily Planet).

So Routh being both Christopher Reeve's Superman and the Kingdom Come Superman makes sense if you think of it in that context. Routh's Superman being Returns (but also having a Superman III reference so i guess some of it's events happened to him too even though Returns negated that film) and turned into Kingdom Come is great and if you're gonna have a twisted Bruce Wayne who crossed the line, who the hell better to portray it than the man with the best Batman voice ever and finally in live action after almost three decades? Loved it. I hope Conroy can come back again sometime as another old Bruce who perhaps trains a younger Batman called Terry McGinnis? Hope so. :)

My very first superhero was Christopher Reeve’s Superman. I wore out the VHS tapes of those first couple of movies. Routh’s Superman was a continuation of that character and those films, to a certain degree, so that made his appearance as Superman hit me even harder. When that John Williams’ score kicked in, I got super emotional. That theme is one of the all time best pieces of movie music and all of those scenes owned my heart.
