Holy shit! I thought it was tongue in cheek when he wore a cape. But hanging upside down? What the early goths new which got lost somewhere in transalation is to be ridiculously dark and theatric, and to somehow keep a straight face whilst doing so. Even though, in private, they thought it was really fucking funny. I don't think I've seen a better example than this. GO PETE!

This. Him and Dave Vanian always new how to keep the funny in goth. It's why whenever I go dressed out on my goth nights, I look at myself in the mirror and say "I look cool AND ridiculous." It's part of the whole thing. Everyone wants to treat it doomy and gloomy but it's made for the hysterics and theatrics.

About 20 years ago I hung upside down on some yoga ropes for about 30 minutes. When I tried to stand up afterwards my legs gave out from underneath me, probably from lack of blood flow. I thought it was funny at the time, like I'd drunk too much tequila. I still hang for 10-15 minutes at a time. It does something to your nervous system that leaves you feeling very relaxed. No wonder Pete Murphy looks so chill hanging there. This song takes me back to my teen years in the UK, when it was released. Great memories of good times.
