Hello everyone, in today's video I will be discussing the very odd disappearance of Saeed Emadi, who went missing on July 8, 2020 around Strawberry Point in the Crystal Basin area of El Dorado National Forest, California.
Saeed was 66 years old at the time of his disappearance. He is 6'2" tall and weighs roughly 190lbs and was known to be a guy who never gave up . He has gray hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a plain white or light gray and white striped button-down short-sleeved shirt, light gray and white striped shorts, black ankle socks, blue sneakers, a gray baseball cap and black, and silver headphones. He is diabetic and didn't have his medication with him on this hike.
After getting separated from his friend on a hike, crossing the southern fork of Silver Creek, Saeed called his friends at roughly 3:30 pm on July 8, 2020 and told them he was lost but could see a road, the lake and that he was on a hill.. That was the last anyone ever heard from him. He seem to just vanish off the face of the Earth.
If you have any information regarding this case, please contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at: 530-621-5703
My thoughts and prayers 🙏 go out to Saeed Emadi, his family and friends and praying he can be brought home soon🙏
Thank you for watching, and please be respectful in the comments if you choose to leave them 🙏

Hey everyone, my name is Bijan Emadi. Saeed is my dad. As of August 2022, he is still missing. Thank you for showing interest in this case and for all the well wishes. My family and I are doing ok. All I can say from this whole ordeal is just be sure to hold your loved ones close and spare no time telling them how much you love them. Life is too short to spend in fear. My dad taught me a lot and he left us too soon. Were grateful for every memory we have of him. Be well and be safe

I was there that week, and took my kayak to the cove back by strawberry point. My wife, dog and I were screamed at what I think was a Sasquatch (and yes there are hundreds of sightings there weather you believe in them or not). We where scared shitless and left on my kayak to the other side. I’ve recently been back there a week ago. Hiked all around. It’s a mystery but that’s what happened to us. Sorry about your dad. God bless

Dang ! 3 years ago I lost my dad. He was a musician and fisherman, and came with me into El Dorado and Tahoe Forest. I've been all the way around ice house and through Granite Springs all the way a few times. It's definitely an interesting area. Hopefully there's some closure SOON!

I am a diabetic and he is too. You are never real healthy and even having control with pills, you never know if you will have a low or high. If he started panicking that could make him have uncontrollable sugar and if he hasn't eaten, that could cause him to stumble and fall. I've hiked and when I get tired, I have thinking issues, I can't remember which way I'm suppose to go. I also trip alot, when I get tired. His diabetes might have caused him some issues.

Its unfortunate that people go into the woods having the city mentality. I believe complacency played a big role in this disappearance. From past experiences hiking in California, I have found that just off the trail, wildlife is plentiful. Stress from altitude and exertion most likely played a role in this hiker getting lost and then injured leaving him vulnerable to the elements. We should always stay with a friend when hiking and realize that lack of familiarity in nature contributes to miscalculated judgement. My condolences go out to the family and may there be closure soon.

Very good points you make, John. People need to think it through BEFORE they get out in the woods--underprepared, underdressed, and basically sitting ducks for any kind of mishap.

We see that where we live, often "flat landers" are dressed as if they re in Los Angeles or San Diego, then when the temperature drops at sunset hypothermia set in. Being prepared is often scoffed at as "Cub Scout " or Brownie Scout" merit badge, but that education works and the preparation keeps minor problems from becoming a one way trip to the morgue. Most people ignore hydration, staying with a hiking buddy or group and the fact that hypothermia starts in when the temperature drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Thank you for your comment! See you on the trails, we are the ones with enough equipment for at least three days stay in the mountains. Maps and compass included.

If he was diabetic (most likely a type 2 given his age) with no food with him it is probable he would have experienced a low blood sugar episode. Diabetics need to take extra care to avoid low glucose levels even on short excursions. Us diabetics burn through carbs like everyone else and often have low glucose levels if we don't make sure to have food or snacks with us on excursions with physical activity, even short hikes. Most non-diabetics don't realise that a low glucose level is often more immediately dangerous and deadly than a high glucose level. Sadly even diabetics can fail to take this danger seriously. More so if they don't normally engage in physical activity. Low glucose levels can quickly lead to disorientation and confusion, tunnel vision and vision blurring, and eventually a diabetic stroke and death. Once symptoms set in death can come anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. It isn't uncommon for people to encounter a diabetic having a low blood sugar episode and think they are intoxicated or on drugs. Police have unfortunately made this mistake. A diabetic caught out in the heat, alone, and with no food to keep their blood sugar up would have been in serious peril. It is likely this man was already dealing with confusion and disorientation when he made his last phone call. As a type 2 diabetic for my glucose levels this is what I look for: 100-120 is good fasting pre meal level, 80 or less is what I consider too low and needs immediate attention (food) I can normally tell when I get to this point. 70 or less is dangerous zone. I can get shaky and tunnel vision in the 70s. 50s is the life threatening area you never want to be in. When planning physical activity I want to be higher than normal depending on what I am doing. Before starting a workout (30min cardio, 30 min weights) I want it in the 200-220 area so only drops to 120-100. If I were to start at 120 I would likely end up in trouble by the time my workout was done. For something like a 4 hour hike I would take some serious calories that I could use as fuel along the way and make sure I was checking my glucose levels at least once on the trip.

If the missing person had your attitude and education he might have had a chance of being found, But without food, diabetic supplies and the ten essentials , he was a sitting duck. We had a family member who was a brittle diabetic and avid hiker, he never had any problems because he took meticulous care of himself, this was before blood glucose monitoring was common. He could hike the socks off people decades younger than himself..

@@christinemeleg4535 Education about diabetes is so important and not just for them but for their friends and families as well. Quite often they are the ones who notice their diabetic loved one in peril before the diabetic is even aware of it themselves. Shaky hands is one early sign that can often be seen by a bystander before the diabetic is aware of it. New constant glucose monitoring systems are making a big difference for people with active lifestyles but many are expensive systems and out of reach for most diabetics as of yet. Hopefully someday soon we will see that change.

@socket_error can you please explain also why a lot of diabetics lose their body weight? Tnx
@socket_error1000
@socket_error1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@nutcase1 Sure this is actually what happens when blood sugars are high due to a lack of insulin. Rapid weight loss is caused when diabetics don't have enough insulin to help their cells absorb glucose made from carbohydrates and instead the body starts to use fat and break down muscle tissue into protein to feed the cells for energy. This is often an early sign of diabetes in people with type 1 (autoimmune disease) but also occurs in people with type 2 (adult onset) as well. While you might think that the fat loss is a good thing this rapid loss can cause a lot of stress on the kidneys and the liver causing permanent damage to those organs. The same is true with proteins. All the while the diabetic's glucose levels are getting higher and higher until if left unchecked a serious condition called ketoacidosis sets in. DKA or Diabetic Ketoacidosis is when the body starts producing high amounts of blood acids called ketones. This is a precursor to diabetic coma where the diabetic can lose consciousness for long periods and eventually die if not treated. The symptoms of this are craving carbohydrates (often fruit juices), frequent urination, thirst, nausea, abdominal pain, weakness, fruity/alcohol-scented breath and body odor, and confusion. At this point diabetics are often not aware of these symptoms so it is important for those around them to look for these warning signs. The fruity/alcohol scented breath and body odor is one sign I can personally say I was not aware of or could smell when this happened to me. My girlfriend at the time kept accusing me of drinking and I hadn't drank in years and had never had an issue with alcohol. So I was rather confused and didn't understand her accusations. I was actually suffering from undiagnosed diabetes and having symptoms of DKA for over a month. I was getting close to falling into a coma when I was finally taken to the hospital. She told them I had been drinking for at least a month because she could smell it on me saying I smelled like wine and when she was told it was the a symptom of the DKA she was shocked. I actually knew of the symptom having experienced it when my mother had a DKA but not being aware of the odor I had it never registered with me. This is actually a symptom you could notice in a complete stranger.

I’ve camped out in this area several times over the years. And can see why people love the area and how they can also go easily missing in these types of terrain. I remember being out near Wench Creek campground in my teens and accidentally wondering off away from the camp into an area I hadn’t explored yet. I recall finding myself easily getting lost due to the similar looking terrain that surrounded me. If it wasn’t for the sound of a dog barking back in camp I don’t know if I would have found my way back the evening.

Bryan, thank you so much for all your research and videos. They are excellent. As a diabetic myself, if you get a low sugar level you experience being dizzy, you start to shake in your legs and you arms, you lose the ability to focus or concentrate and once low sugar (hypoglycemia) begins it quickly becomes life threatening because you nervous system begins to fail. Without a source of sugar you will die.

Some the the trails I have hiked have very thick brush on either side and sometimes people will think that there is solid ground near a lookout but its just brush very very close to an edge of a large cliff. I approached one lookout and really if you were not watching closely you could just walk straight off into never never land lol. This story is, as always, so well presented, but it follows a common theme, a person lost after hiking alone. That one factor is dangerous enough,one slip. hit your head on a rock or tree root and you won't be able to call on the too often relied on electronic device. Add in the effects of hiking, high altitude, dehydration and diabetes and the mix is fatal. Diabetics can't control their blood sugars easily, and this man was poorly prepared to begin with it sounds as if he didn't have even the ten essentials with him. A tragedy for all involved..

You have missed the common topic, persons who hike alone, always dangerous and are also unprepared. We are involved in Scouting and we teach this principle, NEVER HIKE ALONE! when traveling in the parks or any outdoor area, learn what to take with you,and how to use the equipment. Learn to use a map and compass, electronic devices are great, but they do fail and maps and a compass never do. But stay with a hiking or visitor friend,never travel alone or hike alone! We are experienced in Emergency Services, over twenty four years, and experienced back country hikers. Visit the National Parks National forests and state Parks, but remember education is the best safety device. Look at sporting goods stores for sources to begin your education.

(It has not) l am alot younger than my cousin Jimmy, but he looked after me, after he got out of the service he was different and did not talk to anyone but his (my aunt) mom an step dad (my uncle Red), and he has always talked to me an my cousin Tony. He is special and l would like to share this with you, l know once you hear the special missing person story, you'll be eager to find answers? Thank you! Tanya

Hello 👋 Bryan, it is truly bizarre. Silver Creek flows into the Northeast corner of Ice House Reservoir. It's virtually impossible to get lost in this area. Going back to 1964 I have spent over 100 days in that area. County Road 11N37 parallels the Reservoir. Thank you for sharing this video. Had I been aware of his disappearance, I would gladly volunteered in the search for him. Take care and be safe.

We use ice house road to get to our backpacking trailhead every year. I recall finding the missing posters, and not understanding how he could be so close to a road and not be found. Yes it’s easy to get lost, but he was in a pretty well traveled area, and close enough to a road that they had enough of an idea where he could be. I will say that I have zero phone reception in that area, for miles and miles, so that may have been the issue with the lack of phone calls. His friends should have told him to stay where he was. I can’t help but feel that he met foul play.

i know this area well as i live less then 30 mins away, although it is well traveled by campers when you get off trail it becomes very wild. it sound to me like maybe a slip and fall there are many boulder fields and steep cliffs he could have gotten off trail and cliffed out easily . if he did make it as far as the footprints where found there are many spots that are dangerous if he tried to make it down to hwy 50 overland.

When someone is lost I feel they can panic, so much so that they loose the ability to make calm normal decisions. Like using your phone often to get help. You panic, feel alone and it takes a snowball like effect, in a bad way, on your decisions. It’s sad. I feel for his family.

he was a diabetic and poorly prepared. That will cause confusion and lack of any spatial orientation, he could have not realized where he was and reported false information. Combine dehydration with high altitude low blood sugar and the mix is deadly, fast.

I don't know anything about this case but after listening to David Paulides for several years I can say for sure I wouldn't have gone anywhere alone in such surrondings.. Even with companions I would have had a weapon and a personal locator beacon.. And the missing cases happens in cities as well.. Scary.. Usually you would find something in some time at least..

Cases like this really point to the vastness of national parks. It helps to realize that you're just a speck on hundreds of square miles. It you're off trail, its very easy for even the most intense search effort to miss you. Ideally, stay on well traveled trails. That way if you are injured or have a medical emergency, someone will likely be by to help or rescuers can find you. I've been hiking for 50 years and have gotten lost and off trail. Using visuals, I have been able to navigate my way back but I will tell you there is a reason for trails. Often hiking off trail involve more dangerous climbing or hiking than I'd prefer. I start my hikes early in the morning, I hike during the summer and I check the weather.

I saw him the last time, two years before his passing or disappearance. We had sushi. This is just devastating to his family into his friends. It’s very confusing and in uncertain. No answer is no clues. Still until this day we know nothing about it. Very sad. He loved hiking, and would go very often. He was experienced. Which makes it that much more confusing.

What phone did he have? Was it pinged? Did he have “find my phone” installed? Did he have a watch that could track his movements? Did he have other programs in his phone that tract his location? Maybe he tried to find a way out after the phone call at got to an area without phone service or he didn’t have more batteries left. They are able to see if the phone is off or out of service, phone calls will end up forwarded to voicemail and messages will not go thru. If he got even more lost and could not reach anyone on the phone he could have gotten panicked and then become disoriented due to the diabetes and ended up in the woods somewhere. If you are lost and panicking you can end up almost anywhere cause you don’t think rational and just want to get out. And if you are deep in the woods it’s really really hard to find someone, you almost have to comb thru everything on foot to find someone. We as searcher think in a rational and calm way cause we are safe and we think the one lost thinks so to but that’s almost never the case. Most of the time we are searching for a lost person the end up being found far from were they was last seen or found in the most strange places possible. I keep fingers crossed and my heart filled with the hope that he at least will be found and brought home.

What is really sad are the number of people who think they will have phone reception when hiking, Maps and compasses are more reliable, but too many people take the time to learn how to use them. He was a diabetic and mental confusion happens with low blood glucose. low blood glucose comes with hiking , as well as the stress of the high altitude. He was a sitting duck for a disaster.

Wow! Thunderbirds…lots of sightings and stories around seveal years ago.I was listening to Art Bell late-night live radio talk show and a man in Seattle called in that he and another man had just seen 2 Big birds looked like . Pteridactyls(sp?), flying low over Green Lake. They were taking a break just outside in the doorway of a nearby restaurant where they worked. These creatures were huge and black and as they glided over their location, one of them turned its head and looked down like it had spotted them, probably by the glowing tips of their cigarettes. Frightened, the men drew back, putting out their smokes, under the lintel of the door and continued to watch the prehistoric creatures as they flew toward Lake Union silhouetted against the reflected city lights until they lost sight of them. Thunderbird lore has been around in Native American culture a long time, even accounts of farmers losing livestock and children being snatched up in full sight of adults. Hunters have seen them in forested areas gliding low through the tree tops.My kids saw what I think and hope was probably a pair of really big cranes, but they said they were huge and black, at least a 6 ft wing spread and seen at twilight gliding along followiing a country lane in our rural area. There is a river valley and ponds and lakes a few miles away.

@Bryan's Mysteries & Adventures on Trail. I heard you say Saeed left the group to hike with one friend (over another earlier?), said he wanted a better view, then after awhile, SAEED CALLED HIS FRIEND to tell him he was lost but was higher up, could see the water reservoir, & there was a road nearby? No no I smell a fish. The first thing I often think of is a grizzly bear or a cooger... but not this time (altho don't rule it out). This time, I thought of his "friend" who saw him last... this was a male friend? And the male friend had a phone, was last to see him ALIVE, received a call from Saeed but never tried to call Saeed back? I think we are missing some pertinent info. Yes, something mysterious about this friend. I would have called Saeed back for more directions, how far, etc, & YELL to see if I could hear him, to "stay put" & we would call for help for him.. Because the friend HAD a phone & so did Saeed cuz Saeed called him, so if Saeed had NOT returned, why didn't the friend stay put, call the camp & call Saeed back to ask him to make his way down to the shore of the reservoir which Saeed could see, & NOT to divert from it.. But he doesn't & then, this friend just LEAVES him alone & lost? He gets a call & I think you said got it back at camp where the friend tells the others about Saeed being lost. So searchers look for him & cannot find him anywhere. Did Saeed's friend say, 'okay guys, you go that way & I will go 'this way' to look for Saeed... cuz if the friend did, he could keep others from stumbling upon Saeed's body that way if it was nearby & he & his friend had a struggle or falling out. Was his group only men? I think a grizzly would have left him a mess on the spot... the searchers could have watched for 'vultures circling him' from above (if deceased) to possibly locate him, but a cooger would get him and likely drag him off elsewhere. I am no authority, but there, you have my opinion. The last person seen with one alive is always a suspect in their disappearance, more legally, a person of interest. Saeed, according to His friend, knew there was a road nearby, yet failed to walk on it or stand there to wait for help. Too weird. WHY since he had a phone & didn't call again, WHY didn't his friend try to reach him? Wouldn't his phone also ping in the area he was lost in order to locate it. Wouldn't sniffer dogs be able to sniff his backpack or blankets at camp... and easily track him? Looks to me like a lot of different people could have done a better job but really let him down. You don't have enough info for sure. Maybe there is another video or more articles on his disappearance. L Was this a work group? College alumni? A church group? Homosexual friends? He starts out with one friend but then chooses to go hiking off with a 'different friend'... maybe someone was jealous? Even if a wild animal got him, his phone should have still pinged. Perhaps he wanted to disappear. Nice looking man. Near Colorado? Lots of drug & sex traffiking there too. Some people have no idea who there friends really are. And IF one is involved with any sort of evil/corruption group... ya can never really trust your life with 'em.

Too many people rely on the convenience of cell phones. In the West there are large tracks of land without any cell phone service. Too many people make fun of those who prepare for hiking with the ten essentials,education. The best preparation and safety net when outdoors is education, this is not a walk on city streets, out here you are your own rescue. We have hiked for decades, we rely on our education, maps and compasses, they never fail.

I am a diabetic, hiking for a diabetic is extremely dangerous. When hiking your blood sugars can go too low unless you have glucose tablets or some form of sugar with you. Even if you have insulin with you it's useless if your sugar levels go down to low. Insulin and other diabetic medications are solely designed to keep your sugar levels in control. If he experts himself too much his sugar levels would have gone way too low and he would have passed out, eventually perishing. He probably fell into the shrubs so now one would be able to see him. Hiking for a diabetic is highly dangerous health wise and going alone can be deadly. I am speaking purely from experience, I have been a diabetic for 25 years and you never go hiking alone and unprepared, a diabetic needs to take some for of sugar with them. i am sending my prayers to his family.
