My dad, 7 siblings, and parents came to Cali from Kansas in the Dust Bowl days of the late 30's. Dad graduated 1 semester early from high school in 1943. He joined the Army paratroops & was wounded during the Battle for Manila. He spent the final 70 years of life w/a titanium plate in his skull. He enrolled in college and earned a 4yr Animal Husbandry degree in less than 3 years. He married started a family & farmed the first 5 years out of college. Then he went back to college to become a HS Vo-Ag teacher. He opened 2 Ag Depts in NorCal and taught for 13 years before joining the CA Dept of Ed as a Vocational Specialist . The job included serving as CA Asst State FFA Advisor. He mentored the state officer teams for 19 years and earned a PhD along the way. He passed in 2015. When I hear this song by the late, great Baxter Black my thoughts are automatic. Rest in Peace Baxter Black and my dad, Jerry T Davis.
