I have a 92 Bayliner that has the same problems as your boat. I just finished the floor and going to start on the seats today. Your videos were a help. 👍

I'm not sure how I missed this channel, I'm doing basically the same thing at the same time on the basically the same boat on my channel lol... For those bow seat cushions, it looks like someone replaced the wood on them already at some point. From bayliner they are one piece of wood like the one you made. To handle the fabric pull, you put the cover on without the front piece of foam installed so you can staple it to the top side of the wood, and then insert the front foam, flip it over, and staple away. Then again, with the older foam like yours and mine, its compressed quite a bit and the fabric pull doesn't too much anymore so you probably can't even tell... Great video!

You should get a bigger model boat and restore it. Your videos are very informative.

should be one piece plywood for the seat bottoms, put one foam pad in place couple staples on bottom perimeter then staple down the divider then add the other foam, then finish the bottom staples

Great Job Zach, gives me some inspiration for me doing mine. Luckily mine is just an engine swap out and a transom rebuild....and I thought that would be a daunting task. Watching you basically rebuilding the whole this has given me the hope that maybe mine wont' be so difficult. I just binge watched the whole series. (go back to your first episode, **1-3 month time frame**). There's always unexpected things that come into play. Boat looks awesome.

Your wood pieces need to have a few holes in them to give a way for water to escape that might get inside. You also should have wrapped the foam in Cushion Wrap Silk Film to protect the foam from any water intrusion.

Looking goof, Zach! Anytime you have an edge to coat, try mixing a little 30 minute 2part epoxy with a touch of denatured alcohol to thin it and brush it on. Works great.

Don’t use super clean on boat vinyl. I used it once and my cushion vinyl and it dried it out very badly where it cracked it up. It dried the vinyl out and had to be replaced

Just finished binging on these from your channel into forward; love the fact that you took your audience along for the ride throughout your restoration journey! You mentioned FriscoBoater - do you also happen to be a member of the iBoats community? It's a fantastic place, if not; if so, have you documented your restoration there as well?

I'm Just Curious. Ive done allot of rest work on a 3 jet skies, I'm thinking I want to attempt a boat, as I sold one of the restored skis to help pay for a boat. How much resin have you gone through to get to this point? also how much of the 1708 and chop strand glass have you gone through? Ive been trying to find Four Winns Horizon 170 or 180 to restore.
@ZachsGarage1

About 10 gallons of resin. I'm not 100% sure on the amount of glass. I bought a 3'x~200' roll of each and I have a ton remaining, over half.

Why anyone would go to all this trouble and not use marine plywood is mind boggling. You probably would not even have to epoxy coat all the wood. You would still have to tab it to the hull but not completely coat every piece. Water evaporates from wood if its not coated. Also how is the water going to drain from all those little compartments usually there would be numerous limber holes.
@ZachsGarage1
@ZachsGarage1 4 жыл бұрын
I knew someone would chime in about the marine plywood ;) Comes down to preference, nothing wrong with marine grade, I don't like my wood to be wet in general though. You're absolutely right about needing drainage holes in the compartments. That why I made sure to have the holes if you look at some of the other videos when I built the seat boxes

@@ZachsGarage1 Even though you are epoxy coating the wood you still have voids between the plys besides the water proof glue used in marine plywood there are no voids.

Hydrogen peroxide and a uv light. That will bleach it white.
