All wet belts are from hell, and need to go back there. Ask anyone in the industry with a modicum of intelligence, if running a rubber belt in oil is a good idea, the answer will be a resounding NO!! What were the engineers thinking, or more to the point, what were they smoking.

Unbelievable work as usual. I can’t understand how Ford would both design a belt that would degrade, eventually fail and lunch the engine, whilst at the same time making it so bloody awkward to change. Anyway looks like you got to that one just in time.

Hello Mr Meredith, I really enjoy watching your videos of car repairs... I also have a Ford Focus with a 1.5 liter ecoboost with the well-known timing belt problem. From experience with my Mondeo mk3 tdci I can say that engine additives are very helpful. What do you think if I add additives to my Focus, would that damage the engine? I have always used the Motor Protect product from Liqui Moly on my Mondeo. I would really like to know your opinion... Thank you in advance for your feedback... Mechanics like you with the know-how are still very rare in Germany... Please keep going... Greetings from Germany

Hi Baz, there's also a mesh strainer in the "Oil Pressure Control Solenoid" that can block with wet belt debris. This solenoid is on rear of engine block beside plug where crank timing pin screws in. There's a Dayco training video on KZbin "Garage Wire" Channel showing this Solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.

I repair vehicles (mechanical/electrical) but I also do loads of rust repairs - I have one customer who deals in Landcruisers, lots of 'em. He sends his rust issues to me. Lots of 'em, lol. Same vehicles, "same" issues with rust - however repair times can vary hugely depending on how far the grot has crept. 1cm further than usual can lead to absolute hours of extra work - which then leads to "How does it take so much longer/cost more than the last ones?" conversations.

Fecked off and bought a posher air hammer just there btw - not your Pickler as I am stingy & tight - but a more powerful than the one I use all day one. I'm gonna cheat, bang a 1/2" drive spanner to socket adaptor onto whatever socket needs rattling, rattle that with the hammer & turn the socket with a ratchet spanner.. which will do the same thing only cheapier. I ain't made of money like you Baz, mainly as I'm a good deal thicker. But not too thick to know a good idea when I see one.

@eddyrunip 26 күн бұрын
I’ve got an 18 plate transit custom. I change the oil and filter with castrol and ford filter every 10 thousand miles. Ford recommends every 24 thousand. Had the belts changed a couple of weeks ago as it’s 6 years old. The old belts were like brand new and no particles at all in the oil pick up. I think if you halve the ford recommended service intervals ( to a sensible service interval) and just use proper spec quality oil and filter , the belts will be fine. I do it myself so I know it’s being done properly and it’s not difficult to do.Unfortunately you can’t rely on a lot of garages to put the correct oil in.
