You've got to hand it to him, the man couldn't have pulled this off better if he tried. Many people have had doubts about his ability to carry the monarchy after his mothers death. He's certainly got a tough job ahead filling his mothers shoes. But if this speech proves anything, it's that he's more than up to the task. Perhaps it's understandable that he may have been very much under estimated while in the shadow of his mother. And perhaps a great deal of that misjudgement of him has been of his own making out of his own sense of duty - that he knew his place as heir in waiting was to never outshine his mother.

I'll never forget being invited to an event that was thrown together in honour of a particular nation's heritage in conjunction with a large corporate in London. Their Ambassador had been repeatedly invited and had shown little interest until it became known that very evening that the Prince would be in attendance. Barely able to speak coherent English, he was doing a horrific job at talking the attendees through the exhibit. In stepped Charles who absolutely rescued the situation with his detailed knowledge & eloquence. This man is very underrated, and has led a hugely accomplished and productive life without blueprint, often in the face of unwarranted cynicism from the sneering press. He is a uniquely prepared Sovereign, and has long been an asset to Britain. I watched him tell the Royals of another nation that had taken to constructing large shiny buildings not to demolish what was a decaying yet historical cultural hub with the deftest subtlety. His knowledge of my own country, Pakistan, and our regions, and even our cottage industries impressed me immensely. Make no mistake he has elephantine shoes to fill, but if anybody has a shot, it's him. I hope the Brits give him a chance.

I’ve seen some of his old interviews, some of which were with late Princess Diana. One thing that stood out for me about all his interviews is how passionate he is about protecting natural environment, and how he respected the diverse heritage. In one of the interviews from the 80s, he talked about his vegetarianism & how people are always shocked when someone is a vegetarian but they’re perfectly okay with non-vegetarianism, implying how vegetarianism is good for our environment, yet it’s looked down upon. This was the 80s mind you, but what he said then, holds true today. I think he’ll do a wonderful job as a King. He’s much more outgoing and open compared to The Queen, as she came from a more conservative generation.

@@SimV239 He's always been the most ardent critic of genetically modified foods, modern farming practices, and a passionate defender of the environment. His vegetarianism was probably short-lived. His favourite meal is grouse mousakka! King Charles III not only gave a very good mindful speech, he made several key points. Firstly, Camilla will be Queen Camilla. Secondly, William is his heir and will assume all the roles he assumed as Prince of Wales. Finally, he did not address Harry and Meghan as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He also never mentioned that they would have a working role in the royal family, and specifically said that ". . . as they continue to build their lives overseas". All the nonsense put out about the HRH and Prince and Princess titles for their children makes no sense given the parents will not be working royals nor are they HRH's. In addition, I suspect it is questionable if they will remain Duke and Duchess.

That ending got me as well. When His Majesty said, "And, to my darling mamma," it might be hard to notice if you weren't paying attention, but I did hear his voice crack just a little. A truly beautiful speech from you, Your Majesty. God save the king.

Sincere and heartfelt. Even naysayers were moved and impacted. God bless the King, and may he thrive in his attempts to uphold the ideals we all hold to be noteworthy and just.

That was an amazing speech. This feels so much like when King George VI died. Though I wasn’t born then, from the videos and documentaries I have seen, it is clear that this new era will be a brilliant one. His speech was beautiful. He knows he must do what his amazing mother did when her father died: take responsibility and lead your country and union. It’s a responsibility and honour. Do the job responsibly, and then take in the honour. Never the other way round. Responsibility is the predecessor to honour and respect. Long live King Charles II. May he be eventful and prosperous in his new era, as this is Britain: and he is now Britain’s advocate for everything.

God Save the King. Very touching speech. I'm very glad to hear that Prince William is now also Prince of Wales, and, Catherine will be Princess of wales, for this wasn't automatically bestowed on them. Nice diplomatical nod to H and M, confirming that they have their own path as they wished. I guess this prepares the way to striping off those titles. But right now, it's time to mourn, and honour the Memory of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. May She Rest in Peace.

For anybody to be enabled to discuss a late family member, mere hours after their passing is astonishingly difficult. For them to then carry on and be composed enough to read a speech is awesome. For a new King, adjusting to a new role, to have lost his "mummy", and so soon after his father, be composed enough to greet thousands on his doorstep, and to then read a speech to the world. Now, that's stoic! Whatever your thoughts are on our new King, you simply cannot argue that this man has just put on his biggest, bravest face in the hardest days of his life. Who can honestly say they would be this well composed after the passing of their loved ones? Long live our King.

@@gearoidmacruari2292 thank you. I've seen a few comments recently from those who don't like the royal family, but all considered. Each of them are just like you and I. We all have families, we will all feel grief, and this person is a public figure who has to grieve in public, as well as in private. This must have been terribly difficult for King Charles.

I had my doubts, but if Charles continues to be as well-spoken, thoughtful and sensitive in the future as he was in this speech, I think he'll do a fine job.
