It’s an absolute disgrace that in the US, rappers get praise and millions from all corners for doing the bare minimum right now like Jack Harlow and Lil Baby’s new albums that take no risks whatsoever and is some of the most boring music of the year whereas in the UK artists like Simz, and Dave make actual brilliant work, don’t get recognition at all from the Grammys, have way less sales, and when they perform on UK shows the comments are full of people discrediting them for no reason other than not liking the genre of music or straight up racism

Best album of the year no question. Remember hearing it the week it came out and immediately playing it for my gf that evening because I knew it was so special and she would be as obsessed as I was. And you just know everyone there last night loved the album and Little Simz, they were all on their feet cheering so loud. I haven't seen such an effusive affirmation from those in the room of a Mercury decision in years. Congrats Little Simz, a perfect album

I fucking hate these comments she can’t sing ! She has admitted herself she’s not great but its part of what she wants to include and if you know her back catalogue of music and the fact that this is her fourth album trust me she truly deserves it! Her live performances are amazing this probably didn’t show her in the right light for all those people who don’t know who she is now wondering why? Go listen and find out why! She is amazing, BBC radio 6 and Jools Holland introduced me to her, I then went to see her live and OMG I was not disappointed. She was fantastic. I’ve seen her and Sam Fender in the space of 12 months he also was brilliant…tough choice to make but they got it right !!!! Well done mercury 🎉

Clearly that is a $million question that 95% of the British population could not answer but could hazard a very good guess. Neither could they answer "how did it come to this?" We once thought "The Smiths" were depressing but by todays standards even they bring a joy. There is more great music about today than ever but it seems Mercury hasn't found it or know where to look.

Fat L Smoney. The craftsmanship that goes into her words is next level and the production quality of this album is of incredibly high. I simply cannot bear the mid-Atlantic estuary English accent every UK rapper of the last 20 years seems to adopt. It reminds me of David Frost in the 70s. It's really cheesy. No wonder Americans never buy British hip hop.

@@stretchmorgan your right that American hip hop just ignores UK hip hop and it’s horrible because right now the UK scene is a million times better, if you look at US rappers to blow up in the last 5 years compared to the UK, the talent in the UK is at a different level, that’s why the biggest rappers now are mostly great rappers from years ago like Kanye, Kendrick and Drake or industry plants like Jack Harlow and Lil Baby who are so boring it’s a joke, Dave, J Hus and Little Simz should have Grammys by now

@@barry4649 bad take. US is way better right now. And the greatest rappers arent from a few years ago. Jack Harlow is not great. Drake is not great. Lil Baby is not great. It isnt about which rappers are the most popular. You have to look at the underground. The underground in the us is one of the best its ever been with Griselda Records running it. Artists like Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny The Butcher, Boldy James, stove god cooks, mach hommy, mavi, mike, Navy Blue, Billy Woods (Armand Hammer), Quelle Chris, Roc Marciano, Blu, Freddie Gibbs, Jpegmafia, Denzel Curry, Ka, Action Bronson. Producers like madlib, alchemist, camouflage monk, daringer, Conductor Williams. Some of the ones i named arent necessarily underground but also arent really mainstream. And the fact that i left out a ton of amazing mainstream acts like Kendrick, Tyler The Creator, Joey Badass, Pusha T etc. says enough. Dont get me wrong i love UK hiphop. I listen to a lot of Little Simz and Loyle Carner for example. Lord Apex is also nice. But its definitely not as stacked as the US right now.
