He even admits to it on Tranquility Base: "There's no limit to the length of the dickheads we can be." "I'm so full of shite." Speaking of Tranquility Base, there's a ton of Bowie in it too, even if it wasn't all that rocky. "Four Out Of Five" sounds like a straight up impression of David at times ("I don't wanna be nice and you knooooow thaaaat!") Them losing touch with rock n roll, both willfully and inadvertently, is actually a recurring theme on their newest album "The Car". "Big Ideas", "Sculptures of Anything Goes", "Body Paint", it's all meta commentary on their new musical identity. Looking at their recent live performances though, they actually seem to cling to the genre much more than their latest records might make it seem. Maybe Alex's speech was genuine after all. "That rock n roll, eh?"
