Baby orangutans on the island of Sumatra are being captured and sold as pets, but charities are working to rescue the animals and confront the owners.
This is a series about the animals of Indonesia's Leuser rainforest and the people trying to save them. Leuser is one of the most biodiverse places on earth.

I don't doubt she loved Bom Bom, but it's called selfish love, keeping him in a small backyard cage 5 days out of a week, and not taking him out in public because they knew it was illegal. Did they not think of Bom Bom's needs to be happy throughout his life? What were they going to do when he became a big, strong, full grown adult orangutan? Obviously a good decision that he was rescued to be rehabilitated to have a chance to live back in the wild.

The great ape species share between 97-99% of our DNA, whereas a bird only possesses about 65% of the same DNA as us, so Orangutans are much more closely related to us, than they are to the other animals you mentioned. Now, I'm not sure if you're attempting to troll, or if you're truly that myopic and ignorant. If it is the former, then your sophomoric antics merely make you appear insensitive and immature. If it's the latter... well, I suppose it is your prerogative to exhibit your own ignorance. She did love him, and the young orangutan was attached to her as she was the only “mother” he remembered. These people live in poverty and are mostly illiterate. They probably did the best they could for him. We don’t know they were responsible for killing his mother. With so many orphans out there as the forest came down, they might have picked him up or obtained him from a villager who did.
