Being a 21 year old, old school romantic who's only exposure to a relationship when I was growing up was my parents perfect marriage, I was so convinced that everyone had a soul mate.. and I somewhat still believe this to this day as my mum and dad are perfect for each other. Being a young woman at university among 'hook up culture' the pressure to have sex by people around you is unreal, even guys. I want too wait until I find someone I like enough to give myself to them fully, and most of the time this is looked down upon and judged by the majority of people my age, simply because I don't want to just have a one night stand and never see them again, I catch feelings way too easy for that!

Sex appeal is hugely tied into the way we desire acceptance. There's this idea that if people don't have sex then they must not care what people think of them. This can be scary for sexually active people as they don't know if they can trust a celibate person who has no desire to be tied down to someone and be crafted by another person. Yes there's a portion of celibate people who just don't give a damn about what anyone thinks but in most cases celibate people will put a higher emphasis on deep friendships and still crave intamacy and acceptance. Sadly our culture isn't always accomodating of that and people like myself who are celibate, have to make an extra effort to try and fit in.

I constantly have this at the doctors, they always want you to do pregnancy tests and even though your saying there is no chance , they still don’t believe you. Then you have to explain you don’t have sex because your not married/religion
@caze31545 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get that, it’s just the amount of explaining you have to do. As someone with ongoing medical problems a bit of trust would be nice
@Panda720214 жыл бұрын
I had a few health issues awhile back which caused a lot of nausea, and every time a doctor would ask me if I was pregnant I would say no, but they never believed me (also I was on birth control at the time to try and treat a chronic condition I have) so even though I was telling the truth about never having sex, they just saw that I was on birth control (even though I explained what I was taking it for) and had me do blood drawn for pregnancy tests every time. After awhile I got SO sick of being poked with needles just for them to come back to me and tell me the test was negative (yeah no shit 🙄😒).
@FunSizeSpamberguesa4 жыл бұрын
@@Panda72021 I think they just want to charge your insurance for it. I had a hysterectomy at 27, which is noted in all my medical records, and they still make me take a pregnancy test. No reason for that but greed. Last year I went into a walk-in clinic because I knew I had a kidney infection (and I couldn't get in to see my GP for three weeks), and when I told the nurse I'd had a hysterectomy, he actually said, "Are you sure?" I just stared at him, because seriously. Just...what.
@Panda720214 жыл бұрын
@@FunSizeSpamberguesa "Are you sure?" I swear if ANY other profession tried to pull some of the the shit that some medical people do, they'd be fired on the spot. I also hate that you have to go through about 7 different tests that won't show anything, before you are allowed to take the one that will be able to diagnose the issue. Side note: Three weeks is WAY too long to be sitting around with a kidney infection, waiting to see a doctor. Hope you're doing better now.

I like judgmental friends personally. The ones that just say agreeable things all the time get kind of boring and predictable to me as ass-kissing types. @@ladyof5304 Dyspraxia also.called Developmental Coordination Disorder is a learning difficulty that affect things like fine motor skills so stuff like writing, tying shoe laces, for me doing makeup I struggle with. It also affects stuff like spatial awareness, hand eye coordination. It can make a person seem clumsy and stuff. It can also sometimes affect speech as well be causes a slight stammer or where a person talks to quick and can't get the words out right. Many famous people have it like Daniel Radcliffe, Cara Delevigne and Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine. It is a lesser known learning difficulty that people don't really know a lot about and isn't really represented much and it can bring misconceptions and people just don't understand it and think it is dyslexia which affect your reading. It doesn't. They are different things. I was pleased when recently they had representation of a person with Dyspraxia on Doctor Who and as it is a) one of m fave telly shows and b) something I have myself and want to raise awareness and understanding around. I was pleased with how it was portrayed on Doctor Who. I feel Tosin Cole who played Ryan did the condition justice. I was only diagnosed with Dyspraxia late in my teens. I was diagnosed 2 years ago when I was just turning 19. I had gone though 13 years of my educational life struggling at school and not knowing why and because at school I was a solid C and B grade student and I had good behaviour and attendance record and I was naturally quite bright I slipped under the radar and none of my schools I went to picked it up. It was only spotted when I was at my second college. This is one of the reasons I wanna spread awareness about Dyspraxia because people may not know they have it or know what it is.

I was never sexually active growing up. Sex is not something that I need in my life to be complete or to fill a hole that's never been filled. It's not something that is important to me and I'm struggling with my relationship because of it. My Bf is obviously not asexual but we are trying to stay together. This needs more views on so many levels. We live in such a sexualized society that it's just sickening, I want to puke a lot of the time. I've been told that I don't know what I like, whether girls, guys, non binary, gender fluid people, or anyone without having sex and finding out which feels better for me. My brain cannot wrap itself around this issue...I know what my sexuality is, and guess what? I AM A VIRGIN!!!! And a damn PROUD one at that! I'm waiting for marriage to have sex. I hate when people say waiting until marriage is weird or wrong, when actually it's the smarter choice, at least in my opinion. If you're still a virgin in high school or college, you're automatically not cool anymore. While we may have a cranial capacity of about 1200 cc as humans (at least I think that's right), it feels as if it's about negative 1 million cc with all this sexual stuff going around. Apparently, if a music video doesn't have breasts, asses, fucking, smoking, getting shit face drunk or swallowing up them dollar bills, it's not entertaining or interesting. It baffles me, it really does.

When I was 18, I pressured myself into having sex with my (only) kinda-boyfriend. It wasn’t anything special, but at least I wasn’t a virgin or gay if anyone asked. Teenage logic am I right? When I began my first relationship, I had not yet figured out that I was asexual. It’s a lot harder to notice the absence of something you never had than it is to notice the presence of something most people feel. :’ I assumed I wouldn’t have to worry about sex until after marriage, especially because we were both Christian at the time. That was not the case. That was... really not the case. Even after I started telling him “no” to sex instead of just “maybe I’ll feel like it in the future”, he continued to bring it up. He suggested many things that might “help” me want sex, like hypnotism and... playing with myself. He made jokes like “Hey, you haven’t hit your head and suddenly started wanting sex, right?” He asked me more than once if I was sure I wasn’t just a lesbian. I can’t believe I let that relationship go on for over a year. I haven’t spoken with him since a little after we broke up, and now he thinks that successful relationships can’t form from friendships when really I wouldn’t even call what we had before or during our relationship a friendship.
@nessyness54472 жыл бұрын
Well , think about how much worse would have been if he had never brought up sex because as a christian, he too would have assumed it would just happen once married. Then you would have been married, still not knowing your ace, and trapped in a situation were sex is much expected and still not feeling like it.

This is really great to see! I haven't really done it fully, because where I like and with my mental illness and history, it's really hard to find people in general. Like, I struggle daily to connect and I can't make many friends, and most of the people I do end up connecting with are toxic and also mentally ill but not actually trying to change anything, so, horrible people to have any sort of relationship with. And I'd love to be able to do it more casually, like with a friend or sleep with someone then hang out and become friends, as long as it's not just a one night stand which I find really unattractive for myself personally, but I have major trust issues and mental roadblocks so it's near impossible to actually go out and do that, and the people I DO know would not be down for that and I wouldn't be down with that for them either. Like its hard, you don't know our stories, like some people are ace, some are waiting, some have stuff that hinders their ability to interact and stuff. I haven't seen such a diverse lineup, and I'm so happy a lot more sides of this are being represented! It makes me and a lot of others feel really accepted
