I think it is especially hard to remember because it never feels like Pannen is competing against someone for the top ranking time. Everyone is working together to solve the problem and most of the time when progress is made, credit is given to multiple people.

I think it's more an issue of, the absurd amount of time it takes for some strats makes it cumbersome to even optimize in the first place. Whenever the whole thing hits zero and gets combined into a full game TAS, having a file that's 300 hours of inputs is just awful to have to work with.

But yea, if ABC ever does hit 0xA, then the next goal is going to be to get the time as low as possible so you can actually try and show it off by having it all compiled together without it being hundreds of hours long.

@@R8Spike Also part of it is the amount of knowledge in the community. Only a few people actually know enough techniques to work on the ABC, and most of the time they end up specializing on techs. With MK communities, you'll have a fair bit wider community where knowledge can be more easily acquired and contributed to. The most recent MKWii TASBot has 20 direct contributors, while a ABC star will have 6 max and only for really complicated modern techs. ABC is a very different beast

There's a good reason why this route wasn't possible before. In "The History of the A Button Challenge - Part 2: The Pannenkoek Revolution" the historian Bismuth mentions that you can only get 101 coins in 0xA presses, later in "The History of the A Button Challenge - Part 4: Tyler Kehne is a Genius" he discusses two new discoveries: a way to get one more red coin on the first floor bringing the 0xA coin count up to 103, as well as a way to reach the second floor during star 1 of Big Boo's Haunt for an extra 23 coins. Unfortunately selecting star 1 means you can't collect the 25 coins from the boos in the Merry-go-round as the boos only appear on subsequent missions, this means that you can't collect enough coins to spawn the 100-coin star during either mission to make up for the missing coins from the crazy box and 3 scuttlebugs. Later on February 19th 2021, ds273 discovered that you can reach the second floor of the mansion in all missions using a glitchy ledgegrab allowing for 126 coins to be collected making up for the missing coin differential which makes this route possible. Bismuth hasn't covered this new discovery, but nevertheless his series on the SM64 ABC is super comprehensive and I highly recommend it!

He didn't say it had anything to do with the camera; he said it had to do with which way Mario's facing, just as you'd expect. It's just that in this particular strategy the way Mario gets up there is by collecting the 100-coin star, and the direction Mario faces at the end of that star-collection dance is camera-dependent.

0 on wii 1 on all other consoles the a presses is to jump off the pole in bitfs, but in the wii version, the rising and sinking platforms slowly rise over time to let you skip it

No there is not a full video out there yet. There are some timesaves which probably happen relatively soon and a 14x run should include those. Also there is a possibility of saving the A press in Bitfs but that likely will take a few years because it's a very difficult computational problem.
