I’m an old guy, 84, and I love liver and onions the way my mom made it with gravy. I remember it now and wish I had some to enjoy. I know a lot of folks don’t like them but I loved them the way mom made them. Just a nice memory. Thanks Tom for a good memory from my childhood.

I was about eight years old and my mom had cooked liver and onions. It was the only thing that she cooked that I didn’t like. She made me stay at the table until I ate it. After a while my mom left the kitchen and my dog Peppy was loyally sitting beside me. I gave him my liver and onions. He and I were both very happy! How I loved that dog, especially then!

I used to have a dog who had colitis. He would get sick and not eat for a day or two. My vet told me to give him chicken and rice when he wouldn’t eat, so I kept canned chicken on hand. Eli died over a year ago. Recently I saw several cans of chicken in the cupboard. I never use it in any of my recipes but I looked at the date and saw it needed to be used in the next couple months. I tried this recipe and it was delicious! Messy, but delicious

Hi from Greeneville Tn. Tom and Melissa! Just binge watching your videos and came across this video! I was rolling listening to Tom talk about Liver and Onions .. my parents loved it and my sister and I hated it , but we had to eat some also . We put mustard or ketchup or BBQ sauce in it to kill the taste ! We would set for a long time also and not eat our dinner too, finally after several years they decided that we were not going to eat it without a confrontation, thank God … we no longer had to eat any ! I can so relate to gagging at it !! Memories not so fond of brought back from this video , but couldn’t help but laugh !! Thank You both !! The chicken sandwich looks amazing !

Still using pull tabs. Nothing like two sharp edges to deal with, plus there's the inside can ridge that hinders emptying the contents. Another hint, reserve the flavored juices to use when needing to 'wash out' your ketchup bottle (and other containers). My grandpa taught me this kind of stuff back in the 1950's when I was four-years old.

I had the same experience with my father in the early 60's when he tried to make me eat my liver and onion dinner. You know there were starving children in China then, he would say. My dad loved liver and onions but he would have to cook them cuz mom didn't want to. I would gag just smelling it. Luckily it wasn't too often. Then my ex-husband loved them too but I could only cook them once for him in the early 70's and never again. Melaney from SoCal

I know what you mean about liver. The one (and only) time I ever had liver I was told I must eat it. It was not a really big piece of liver but certainly looked enormous. I could not stand the thought of eating it. FINALLY I chopped it into very small pieces and with the aid of 5 glasses of water I managed to get it all down by swallowing it like pills. NEVER been near the stuff since and that was 50+ years ago! Love your channel.

Oh my! You at least came up with a clever solution for getting it down without having to actually bite into it or really taste it too much. I am looking forward to trying this recipe with REAL chicken̈! LOʻL My mother used to make Spanish rice every week. I never said a word, but I never cared for green̈ peppers. Then, my mother announced that we were going to have liver every week. No onions because my dad didn't like onions. At the first liver meal, I announced that I just couldn't eat any more liver. Because I wasn't generally a fussy eater, thankfully, my mother dropped the liver idea. LOL, so I understand your pain, Tom.

I also hated liver and onions as a child! I was made to eat it as well and used to cover the liver with catsup to get it down. My younger sister had the plan that she put a big mouthful of liver and then claimed she needed to use the bathroom and then spit it in the toilet. I still hate liver to this day. I do love your utube channel so much and have made many of your recipes. Keep them coming.

Yum, looks soo good. We're trying to eat down the freezer so it'll be frozen chicken here. Ick on liver and onion gravy but do like regular gravy with onions and separately fried liver on it's own but mother never let me have a piece before putting it in the gravy. I think making the gravy in the oil and drippings does something awful to the gravy. Yes, I would gag on it and be in big time trouble. She was very strict and a horrible cook so I learned to cook at a very early age. About 7, I realized I would never have a birthday cake unless I made it myself.
