The first time I saw Big Country was around a week or two before this show, at The International in Manchester. They opened with Restless Natives that night. I have before and since been to probably 300 concerts, including approx 20 BC gigs. I have seen Springsteen, U2, everyone... Nothing has even come close to the first 2 minutes of that night in Manchester. They were perfect, the sound was stunning, and the energy will never ever leave me.

Wonderful version! Indeed, that long intro belongs to it. Last week I bought the DVD from the movie Restless Natives. The film music and the images of Scotland gave me goose bumps. The film was not subtitled in Dutch, so it was sometimes quite difficult for me to understand the Scottish … I was already a fan of Big Country in 1984 and have seen them live three times in the Netherlands; the last time in April 2000 in Hardenberg. During concerts I always stood for the stage. Because the music of Big Country was exciting. The musicians always made contact with the audience, improvised their music and clearly enjoyed it. And I loved that. I already had several CDs from Big Country. But in the last few months, I have reinvented Big Country. On the internet I found all kinds of information: music, articles in newspapers and magazines, and so on. There's a lott to be found.

Stuart was, is and will always be of my biggest musical heroes. Listening to John Peel in my early-mid teens, hearing The Skids and then of course, Big Country. Those guitars, the incredible driving rhythm of the bass and the drums, still music that stirs the soul and lifts the spirit. Only got to see Big Country once, an amazing gig at the Hippodrome in Bristol and I took my little brother for what was his first gig. Not a bad introduction to live music. If only Stuart knew just how much he was respected and loved, an inspirational talent.

another day in a world with no stewart adamson, how does it revolve without his guitar playing to make our hearts soar, it reminds me to breath in my land i shared with him so briefly,. one of the first things i did when my children were born was to introduce them to big country & runrig, a rock sound conceived in Scotland, as striking as a battle cry that breaks your heart but drives you on, anyone wishing to undeerstand us Scots other than the risky asking them if they are english? our big country comes out in us so look away if you as squimish. the music of big country could lead us intto battle with runrig's 'dance called america' or 'skye' leading our charge to death or glory, i wish stewart had chosen the glory, he would be worshipped & never knew i.
