BC20 Bose SoundDock Bluetooth 5.0 NFC Upgrade Kit Design Preview

I knocked up this upgrade for the fantastic Bose SoundDock series 1 and 2. It is certified Bluetooth 5.0 with NFC pairing etc. etc..Sound soo goood...

I Just ordered one of these bad boys. The quality of this device looks AMAZING in the video. The layout of the controls is neat and simple and the color duplication of the white panel, looks razor sharp OEM! These sound docks beat any expensiveTV soundbar accessory out there. This upgrade will breathe new life into a great bose unit that became obsolete for no real reason. The best part about this is that it’s not from freakin China! BRILLIANT!!

Received mine last week. Install was a breeze, quality is super high and it looks great installed. Nice to bring new life to a quality product. Be a shame it SoundDocks ended up in landfills. They are so well made and the sound is awesome.

It's interesting to see how you created your BT module. However, It would be really grand to see how you repurposed the SoundDock into a guitar speaker... Did you bypass the sound processor board? I'm considering a project that would utilize the SoundDocks Amp. If not too much trouble, can you please describe the 'pin outs' on the ribbon cable between the amp board and sound processor board? How do I order one of these and what’s the damage I just got one of theses speakers today and didn’t realize or remember the drawback on the old one where it has no aux .what was the deal with that I don’t even remember I pod having any kind of boss alliance in any other boss pod exclusive 30 pin pain in the ass plause. Not you need the BC7A for the SoundDock 2. I didn't design a conversion for the portable.

I have a few new ones in the dev lab held back for warranty and shipping replacements . At the time of writing this (Early June 22) The chip supplier lost a delivery to the factory, Unfortunately the chip are on significant lead-times due to the Chine knockdowns. Stock of the chip in question is promised in 6 weeks.

Not really practical although a +18 ,0 ,-18V power adaptor would be easy to design.

No, You need SD20 Kit. The BC20 kit is electrically compatible with the series II but would require plastic modification to make it fit. Have to build a Frankendock!!

I made a few of these into portable multiroom speakers. They use Dewalt 18v battery using a buck converter to generate the 18v+ and 18V-, along with a raspberry pi running balena-sound and Spotify. I tried to send the links on a video but youtube won't let me. These speakers are so well designed and cheap it would be great if you could take my rough idea into something as good as your upgrade kit to make multiroom speakers!!! Can you PM me?

The series 1 takes significant current when on standby. The design isn't energy efficient. Particularly the A version. (0204 & 0358). With a simple battery powered supply you require a method of turning off the battery drain else it will drain quite quickly. The type A is very susceptible to buck inverter noise on the power line. In common building construction, due to it's nature Bluetooth work well between rooms. Best use Wifii.

I wish to have a Bluetooth module which connects to the original 30-pin dock and provides support for the remote as the commands could be transmitted across the wireless connection to the device, thus not requiring the unit be disascembled and still allowing for iPods to be mounted inside. Not a single Bluetooth adapter I've purchased from Ebay has had these features, and it's such a shame to see the dock be used for just audio output. I would like to be able to still control the device via the remote...

The track navigation and volume is controlled from the source device over the A2DP protocol so the IR remote is redundant for track navigation. Alexa play next track!!!

@@razenby I don't want to use voice control as it's not reliable and if I use the Bluetooth dongle I would not like to have to pick up my phone or other device to skip tracks. This requires speech and interupting the flow of the music, as I use VoiceOver or Talkback, and most cheaper Bluetooth adapters identify as headphones or a car, so speech is output to the speaker instead of the phone's internal speakers. This causes lag and frustration as speech is critical to my usage.
