BCAAs, specifically leucine, are a very popular supplement. They are a very effective tool, especially during fat loss phases. Not only does Leucine increase mTor response to training, it can also increase mTor response following a meal, if taken prior. I do a fasted AM workout with weights and cardio, and BCAAs are a game-changer for me. I have more energy and endurance during workout. I eat 2 balanced meals with at least 100+g of protein 2-3 hrs after and end up with better muscle recovery and retention. Btw, I'm 57 yo and post-menopausal so more muscle means higher metabolism.

Can you actually build muscle tissue in a deficit? In even a moderately trained individual, I don't believe it is possible to do. Please correct me if I'm wrong. (no bro science please)

It's not made clear whether the energy deficit group was below maintenance. Also, an increase in LBM is not necessarily an increase in muscle mass. It's entirely possible to increase LBM and decrease fat without increasing muscle mass (tissue).

Protein gets broken down into amino acids so that makes you wrong. Amino acids are better than protein whole protein or not

@@1yourboyken I was talking as a supplement. A complete protein has the non-essential amino acids plus the nine essential amino acids plus the extra vitamins, minerals... Therefore Whole protein (EAA + Non essential AA) > EAA > BCAA. That being said, EAA suplements can have their strategic use on nutrition protocols.
