After 6 months, I finally got the crail grab on this backroll! The trick for me was trying the other side... For the life of me I could never reach the grab on the left. Despite that I can do invert back and front invert with tail grab on the left. Frustrated I tried on the right today... Low and behold, I could reach my board! Need to work on straightening my back leg and getting my head lower but I am thrilled to finally have something to work with! Thanks so much for sharing such unique & stylish trick tutorials!

Hi Steven! I really like you Masterclass, even though I am still quite far from doing those tricks. I managed to do about five bankroll-kind of maneuvers , after two of which I could continue. I don't get to kite a lot and weighing about 97 kg being 184 cm tall, I know, that I am not really a skinny guy. I am sharing a range of Core XR2 kites with a friend, and with my normal 138 cm board I always need to take a one size larger kite, than my skinnier buddy. So I do not know, if you have time for my questions. I'll ask you anyway. 1) I have trouble riding the XR2 with one hand: is this just stupid me, or is it maybe, that the XR2 is not a kite, that is easily steered one-handedly? 2) Riding the larger kite leaves me with tennis-elbow/kiters elbow, which is, why I would prefer a kite, that is not as grunty. 2) I have trouble stearing the kite quickly into the power zone in general and one-handedly. When attempting to do a smooth carved transition the kite most of the time passes 12:00 o'clock and I lose all momentum. 3) I have trouble with pop/popping with or without kite aid, especially doing it quickly, in order to hop over incoming wind waves. I have taken a lesson for it once, but that did not help. When watching others, I always think, that it is more a simple, flowy move, but I just haven't grasped or experienced the concept yet, and I have watched all the tutorials on that topic. 4) I have trouble continuing in switch stance after a carved turn. So I have a feeling, that there is a combination of similar beginner's mistakes linked to all my problems and here are some of the ideas I have to remedy this: kite more, of course: I am trying to do this and have already begun to go to Iijeselmeer more often. I have bought two larger used twin tip boards: a 144 cm Flysurfer Radical 6 and a 155 cm Two-AG Lotus (rather a light wind board). What I can already say now is, that I am now able to use a smaller sized kite than with my 138 board and that means less stress on my elbow. Both boards allow me to ride through short periods of wind slack better, than when riding my 138 board. Switch stance is easier with the larger boards and I hope to get this dialed now with the larger boards and then transfer the muscle memory to the 138 board. I know, that this really is "baby" stuff, but you are quite good at explaining. Do you maybe see a common thread connected with my problems and do you think, that this would be worth a video?
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny That's quite a message you left there 😅 It's always hard to give tips without seeing someone kiting. But in general I would say you need to focus on your pop. If you're able to carve harder through the water just before you jump, you'll be able to divert more power in to the wind and therefor the kite will pull you up. Spray is usually a good sign for a good pop. Have a look at my "5 Tips to jump higher on flat water" kzbin.info/www/bejne/oICVl4Z9mKaCha8 Concerning the XR2, it's quite an old kite (launched in 2011). The older kites often have more bar pressure and therefor make it harder to steer the kite with one hand. This is something that improved loads with the later versions. Have you tried attaching your steering line connection to the loop closest to the trailing edge? This should help a little. But bigger boards and riding smaller kites is probably the best way to got at the moment. Hope this helps you a bit. Cheers Steven
