Thank you! As an ex protestant, raised with the idea of Christ paying my debt to an angry heavenly Father (which meant a huge feeling of guilt when seeing a cross - possibly why protestants rarely wear crosses!), I feel so liberated understanding the orthodox view of the cross...It shows a truly loving God united in the Trinity. It also shows Christ is truly God, not a mere transactional sacrificial lamb with no other purpose. Truly feel my mind liberated! 🙏🙏🙏

Can you believe we're approaching the last Sunday of Great Lent?!?!
@natemathews37803 жыл бұрын
It seems like a tremendously important part of the year to focus, and fasting and prayer helps with that. Unfortunately, so many people are distracted with various things they have no control over, and I hope we all gain more clarity in 2021.
@stevenchristoforou16673 жыл бұрын
@@natemathews3780 Yeah, hopefully this period helps set the tone for the rest of the year. It's the few weeks we refocus on what actually matters. And hopefully it carries through to the rest of the year.

How can these videos receive such little viewership? They're probably the best-packaged videos out there, for Eastern Orthodox neophytes and those seeking refresher or top-up knowledge 👍

Hey Steve - great work you and your team are doing, as always! A note: your slide at 5:52 where you are referencing Hebrews 9:11-12, cites Mark 10:33-34 instead.

Sorry for being off topic. I'm just wondering, what would be the best english translation of the bible for someone considering Orthodoxy? Preferably one with the Apocrypha. Many thanks.
@stevenchristoforou16673 жыл бұрын
Not a problem! A quick note: we wouldn't call them "apocrypha" in the Church; rather, some Protestants removed these books from the existing canon. The best place to start would be the Orthodox Study Bible. Find a version that includes the Old Testament: it will included explanatory notes. It may not be the best translation (to be honest), but the explanatory notes will help you develop a sense of how the Church approaches those books. God bless you!

If you are okay with old English I recommend the Douay-Rheims. If all the Extended Apocrypha is significant for you go with the Lexham English Septuagint and the EOB. I also hear very good things about “The Orthodox New Testament” from Holy Apostles Convent. If you want the OSB, I recommend getting the app, it is easier to navigate and less pricy than the physical book.

@@stevenchristoforou1667 Thanks my friend appreciate it. God bless.
@stevenchristoforou16673 жыл бұрын
@@OrthobroAustin The Lexham English Septuagint is a very good recommendation. Especially for someone who's still at the point of considering Orthodoxy, the OSB is probably the place to start (because of the notes). Good point about the app.
