Why do charities always spend ridiculous amounts of money on doing everything BUT the charitable work?So much is wasted. So I donate to a friend who wanted to feed homeless people. He bought a cheap truck and 3 nights a week he, his family and some volunteers took a truck full of hot food to people on the streets. Five yrs later he has 4 trucks and a roster of volunteers (me included), gets donated toiletries, and goes to thrift stores begging for the bedding, furniture and clothing they find too yuck to sell, takes it home to wash and salvage. All free of charge, all volunteers,while he holds down a full time job. THAT is a charity.

@datatwo74052 жыл бұрын
No. There were perhaps many many many of them that knew or at least suspected it was a bad idea and for many reasons. However, most were probably so selfishly excited about the vision of 2 million balloons being let go that they didn't care and kept their mouths shut. Then there are those adults who, when part of an organization of any kind, their careers being more important than their ethics, will keep their mouths shut so as to not stand out as the corporate traitor. It doesn't matter if it's a private company or a not-for profit. This one event should go to show you, just how few people in a society like ours are unwilling to do anything at all about something they see as a bad idea or action. Especially in a culture such as ours where seeking for oneself materialism, abundance, money, and power are valued higher than helping others. And you can bet that many in that office of the United Way were more hyped for a successful money making event and what it would mean for their careers rather than the purpose of helping poor people. Ours is a bad road we've been traveling, especially as it has intensified in the past three plus decades. It doesn't bode well for our future as a cohesive country, nor for the world as well.

This allowed the message to gain rapid altitude and when the first balloon popped, there was still two left, gaining altitude. When the second on popped, the third balloon caused a slower descent. Released on a windy day, the balloons travelled 50 miles to another town. It was fun to hear how the people found the bags so far away.

The executives should go to jail for misuse of charitable donations. Even if everything had gone perfectly according to plan, those donations were not given for anything remotely like this. The awareness this would have raised, even if it had gone off perfectly, would have been awareness of how donations to this organization would be frittered away on bullshit instead of actually going to feed actually hungry children, or whatever they're supposed to be doing. Did not one of the board members of this organization raised the question in the meeting, "how can we morally justify using people donations for something like this?" There should have been a class-action law-suit on behalf of the people to sue the organization out of existence.
