It's incredible what the human body can do if you have true motivation! Watersports/Swimming in any way is truly great if you have pain and/or diabilities. Many semi paralysed people talk about feeling free in water. It doesn't matter if their legs don't work in the water.. It's also good if you have joint pain & back pain. The water makes it more lenient and doesn't strain your body in the same ways.

As a correctional officer I have to say that the two stories about inmates helping an officer says a lot about the correctional officers personality and proves a point, Inmates are not animals as some would say, but real caring people. There are two kinds of officers that work in prison, those that believe inmates are animals and treat them as such, and those who believe they are still people and treat them as such. Those who treat the inmates as animals will be hard pressed to get an inmate to help them, but believe it or not they still can... sometimes. Those who treat the inmates like people will get several inmates to come to their rescue every time, even when it's protection from another inmate. This is actually a very common tale. Who said karma isn't real?
@richiehoyt8487
@richiehoyt8487 Жыл бұрын
I was going to make broadly the same point, ie, a little human respect (within, of course, the necessary constraints of the job) can end up paying dividends later, but you put it better than I could, just in terms of the writing, but also more authoritatively, given that you are 'in the trade' as it were. PS -- as you say, sometimes inmates will even go the aid of an officer whose default approach is to depersonalise the prisoners, but one suspects that in such cases they are helping more in an attempt to accrue the kind of karma that carries clout with the Parole Board, than particularly out of human fellow feeling for the officer - but call me a cynic! But yes, I can entirely believe that if the 'man down' (or woman) is the kind of officer who doesn't feel like they're on some kind of mission to make the experience of incarceration worse than it absolutely has to be, they can expect help from inmates without the presence of ulterior motive, and where, in fact, it may be _against_ their immediate (or future) self interest.. (Sorry - long winded? Yes!)
@jaywest885

I have an officer friend at my middle school that probably treats kids like people, but there is one staff that has a lot of power at the school, but when kids are refusing to go to school, probably most of the time because of anxiety or they are sick, he has the officer guy drive him to their house in his cop car, and the staff guy drags the kids out of the house, literally not even starting with a calm approach or at least not one like that. So there are not just officers that treat prisoners like animals, but there are also school staff that treat students like animals... and prisoners, I guess. P.S. I salute to everyone that's like a military person, officer, etc. In case you wondered why I replied with that.

About the train story, this reminds me of something that happened in my home city last week: a lady somehow slipped through a crack under a bus and they couldn't get her out, so 40 passengers got together to tilt the bus enough to get the woman to safety. As a criminal justice major and law enforcer in the making, stories like the one about the guard and the prisoners really brought me to tears. Like the narrate said, not all criminals are bad, they’ve just made some bad choices in life, I hope they get out soon and hopefully make their lives a lot better! I’m sure relieved the officer was ok! Kudos to these men for doing the right thing even though they could’ve done something a lot worse but would rather save a human life then worry about themselves!

About 5 years ago I made the normal commute into work (about 20 min on the highway) and went inside. About 30 minutes later one of my co-workers informed me that my car was meowing. Shocked I went over and popped the hood. I was absolutely floored to see this little tabby kitten perched on the engine mount, terrified. We were able to coax him out with a piece of chicken and my co-worker took them home. A vet visit later and he had a new forever home. The most socking part was that the poor little guy had to be clinging on for dear life as I was on an open highway for at least half of the trip. Always knock on your hood before you take off in the morning.

Please remember y'all. Even convicts can be good people. I work in Bail Bonds and a majority of my business is usually pretty honest and good people who found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people, or they just genuinely made a one off mistake. While I agree that there are some people in prison and jail who may have just made a bad decision, prison has around an 80 to 90% return rate! I have a similar Dominos story. I am somebody who truly dislikes Pizza... I don't eat it, don't like it. But i got into a moment where I kept ordering from dominos, except, i never ordered Pizzas.... I ordered their brownies and their pasta. I liked it so much, I wrote a review. After a week or two (No idea, this was back in 2015) the doorbell rang and asked for me with a big flower. They gave it to me and thanked me for the kind review. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to buy anymore since then. And now you cannot order pastas anymore from Dominos here, but I remember this fondly. I remember also it was during mother's day. So that day, my mother got flowers and I felt very loved.

Well I was 7, I was at butterbean beach with family for a family event and I was in the ocean and just to tell you I can’t swim and I was struggling to get out of the water I passed out 2 times until I felt something that touched me. It was my mom, she was looking for me since the reunion began. She swimed Al the way to the shore and I was placed on the table. After I got CPR I was awake. If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be alive today.

A Pedophile? Why is he on the list? 14:10 Camping he did his for his "friend"? This not posible, must be a Grandpa. Friends have to be the same age. Or do they? No, but at least in Germany the older one would face dozens of false pedophilia acusations. I must know I'm 28 and my best friend is 9, but there are way to often some strangers who watch to much true crime and then I strugle proofing to police that I'm harmless, or I get some months of beeing baned from seeing my friend as punishment. PS: Comment of jaywest885 is very wholesome and shows that officers are still human and not a tool for hysterical strangers to use against inocent people like me. Please stay human if you're officer and please never think of inmates or even inocently acused people as animals, or others use you as if you would have been some non-human. I experienced some of your more unfair collegues because lots of people think I'm pedophile but I'm harmless like 14:10, it can be very stressfull if your collegues beliefe an histerical woman more than me just because I'm mentaly disabled.

I have a story myself In fact. About a week before I was about to turn 10 years old I was on vacation with all my family members and the package with all my birthday decorations was delivered to my house without anyone knowing. While I was having fun on vacation someone stole my package with the decorations! But me and my family didn’t know until the thief returned the package after seeing it was the decorations to a 10 year olds birthday party. If it wasn’t for the thief feeling bad I probably would’ve had a much sadder birthday. To this day I don’t know wether to feel glad the theft returned my package or to feel mad the someone stole it in the first place.

No, not at all. Many people end up in jail as young adults whose brains haven't yet become adult (that happens when you're 25. Many under 25s do stupid things; in fact the majority do, just they mostly don't do something stupid and criminal. Hell, I definitely did stupid things before I turned 25!). They make bad decisions, are pushed by "friends" into doing things they wouldn't have done on their own, or maybe got drunk and did something stupid and out of character. Obviously there _are_ bad people in jail, but I would make a bet that the majority are people who are basically good but slipped up with regards to their typical morality. Maybe they grew up in circumstances where they had no opportunities at all to improve their lives and saw no other way out of a terrible existence. You can't make off the cuff comments about people whom you do not know. And it's attitudes like the one you wrote which continues to stigmatize ex-prisoners, preventing them from getting jobs, a home, etc (especially in the USA. The prison system there is abysmal for a "developed" country), and basically forcing them into a criminal life just to survive! Try to see the best in people. It's much more rewarding.

I was in law enforcement. One day I was out tracking a group of “suspected illegal aliens”. After I apprehended the individuals, I passed out. Heat exhaustion. They dragged me into the shade, undid my uniform and used their water to cool me off enough I could radio for help. I was taking away their hopes and dreams. They chose to save my life knowing they would be arrested. What’s really messed up, was there was no process for me to try and help them. The only thing I could do was give them a few thousand dollars and wish them good luck and safe travels on their journey north. I think people like that should be judged on the character they show, not the laws they violate.

In my country, some years back where some poor children with their family who didn't have anything to eat and some people helped but that's not all. Some prisoners hear about them and decided not to eat their lunches but to give it to the poor families. One of prisoner befriend one little boy(he lost his own) and give his pendant he have as a memory from his baby. It was really heartwarming.😊

@@sgtscribbles It doesn't take an insider to realize how stressful emergency responding can be. That toy was appreciated because it provided comfort and innocence in an otherwise scary and dangerous (but necessary) job. That was even stated in the video. Never underestimate psychology bro, adults have feelings too.

One of my best friends did yearssss ago from an OD. I had a dream, but didn't remember it until later that day when I touched something we had memories with....and it hit me like a ton a bricks. I just started crying and remembered him saying he was sorry. He was scared, in a dark place. That's all I can really recall after so long, but it was intense. Got watery eyes thinking of that again 😢

Always check on your regular customers and fellow employees who live alone. I was working in retail years ago and there was one older lady who lived by herself and was always cranky but never missed a day of work. Shortly after I left the job, the lady had missed work for three days in a row. If it hasn’t been for her coworkers, it’s hard telling how much longer she would have been left undiscovered, as she had passed away and no one else had thought to check on her, and her own family were all long gone.
