#9 Also dryer lint makes VERY good tinder. It is cheap and easy to get in abidance for anyone who wears clothing on a regular basis. In fact dryer lint burns so well it is often implicated in accidental house fires. Make sure your laundry area is free of lint build up, but don't throw it out. Save it for camping.

tho in a survival situation or post apocalyptic scenario tampons and other hygiene articles will quickly become a rare and valuable commodity. Fire starting materials are easy to gather in nature. Tampons aren't. So I wouldn't do so unless its your last resort ;)

Uses for tampons in survival situations: water filter, firestarter, plant dirt, emergency for women, air filter, toilet paper, blood stopper, floss, drain plug, water container

You can bring a few pencil sharpeners (the blade gets worn down fast). They are actually pretty useful! 1. You can sharpen sticks and use them for arrows, spears, etc. 2. The wood inside can be used for kindling 3. Small ones don't take up much space in a backpack or bag 4. You can use the blade inside for carving sticks and other things, it's like a tiny knife
@leahs.1478 жыл бұрын
Here's another one: If you get lost, *DO NOT* look for food or make shelter first. The first thing to do is *FIND WATER.* BUT make sure you filter and boil it, because you reeaally don't want to get sick or die. You have to find water first because humans can go weeks without food, and only a few days without water. Next find shelter, THEN think about finding food. You can hunt or gather plants, but if you gather, make sure you know exactly 100% what the plant is, and don't eat any mysterious berries, because this can mean that difference between life and death.
@leahs.1478 жыл бұрын

So, how often have you killed game with hand-fashioned arrows you made with your pocket pencil sharpeners? Because, actually, making (working) arrows is not quite as easy as people with a stick and a pencil sharpener might think. Of course, if you're 8 years old playing cowboys and Indians in the back yard, I'm sure they'll work great. Good luck in your survival situation however.

If you get bitten By mosquitos and it starts to itch, you can rub some butter, or anything oily, on the spot and it helps with the itch. If it's hot and you come across some water, but you don't have a container, so you could drink/ carry it and you're not thirsty at the moment, to still have it cooling you would be a good idea. So you could soack your t-shirt in it and just wear it casually, and so it cools you as long as it's wet.

Drinking your urine is actually very much not helpful and much more likely to cause dehydration faster than attempting to locate another water source and boiling the water to drink. Because urine contains all the substances your body filters out, by drinking them again you’re just making your kidneys work harder, leading to quicker dehydration.

Jason Haynes This is really good information! I'm a very detail oriented person, who is very good at paying attention, and knowing my surroundings. But anything could happen, and one time it did. As a teenager a girl friend and I got turned around, and were lost in the mountains. The main road was above us, but we didn't know in which direction. I remembered someone saying on TV, that if this should ever happen, follow the sun. The sun was setting, our time running out, so we did just that, and viola! We climbed the side of the mountain as the sun set (which was west), and came right to the road, but a couple of miles away from where we were originally. We were so happy to see that road!

Dan S. I have a life hack: For starting a fire when you go camping or ? Get a cardboard egg container, put lawndery lint in all the pockets. Then with any old candles you have, melt them down, Then put in egg container pockets with the lint. You let them harden and then when you are ready to start a fire, rip one or two parts of the pockets off and light. the pockets will burn till your fire logs start. :-)
@gorefist39078 жыл бұрын
1. pickles quickly fight back dehydration due to the high salt content in them. 2. a 9 volt battery and metal brillo pad can be used to instantly start a fire even in very high winds. Just strike the brillo pad across the battery over something flammable. 3. Any non hide material pants (like leather) can be made into a makeshift life vest. tie the legs together, and place over your head. You will have to occasionally blow air into the waste area to keep it full, but will allow for some rest time if exhausted and treading water for long periods.

I'm trying that filtering dirty water trick right now. I took a cup and put some soil from one of my plants in it along with some water and stirred it up. I placed it up on an over turned piece of tupperware. I placed two strips of cotton t-shirt in the cup of dirty water. Below it I placed a clear glass jar for the "clean" water to fall into. We'll see how long this takes to do. I do not intend to boil it to drink it though. I'm not going to drink it at all. I don't want to risk getting sick, but I do want to see if this clears up the water at all. The water is wicking up the cotton cloth, but I don't know if the water will transfer to the lower jar.

We were always told in the army to NEVER drink your own urine. If you're at the point where you are that desperate your potassium levels etc are already at too high of a level to be safe. This is especially true if you were involved in an injury that caused you to be stranded in the first place, particularly crush injuries because damaged tissues leak extra toxins into your blood which ends up in the urine

what about the hack to purify water from a river or stream. use preferrably a 1 litre plastic bottle. cut the bottom off it. then find the moss that grows around the river/stream banks. put a layer of moss in the bottle. then a layer of the river/stream mud into it. continue the process until 3/4 the way up the bottle. ladel in the water and allow if to filter through the layers of moss and mud. you'll have clean water when it comes out the other side. but you still have to boil it. but of course it is much easier if you use the tap, that's on the top of the hill.
