As an Alaskan, I can say 100% that Jocelyn did the EXACT right thing. You get loud and you get big (and you keep a hand on the bear spray). That works most of the time with cub-free bears. Of course, "most" doesn't mean "all"... which is why you have bear spray (and a large firearm as a very last resort - and only if you're a really good shot).

This also happened to me when I was commercial fishing in Alaska. They left me on the shore to hold one end of the seine and they drug the other out with the boat. Then after about 15 minutes they started screaming. I thought they were yelling at me and I started to get pissed off. Then I looked behind me and realized they were yelling "BEAR!!" Everyone was in the boat a couple hundred feet away and I was by myself on the shore with the bear. He was about 7 yds away from me eating all the dead salmon on the beach staring at me. Thank God for all those dead salmon.

Just imagine if that bear had moved closer to Jocelyn and said "How are you going to prepare that fish" ? All of those folks there were really invading the bears kitchen or refrigerator as it looks like that is where they go for their meals, its so easy for them to catch all they want to. Ever notice when bears eat their catch they start with the brains and leave the rest ? Very cool location and using the nets seems so effortless. There's one thing for sure though, food tastes so much better in the wild ! Keep you eye out for the not so friendly bears out there.
