We've received some questions asking why the bears were separated in the first place. These two bears came to PAWS days apart, both severely injured. To attend to their specific medical needs, we had to keep them separated. This allowed us to ensure medication (which is delivered in food) was given to the intended bear and other important considerations for individualized and safe care. When both were pronounced medically stable by our veterinary staff, we followed our usual bear introduction protocol-first installing a howdy door so they could see and smell each other and then lifting the door for the full introduction.

@@pathologicaldoubt With the appropriate medical care the body heals. It took months. I was fortunate to not need skin grafts. I was lucky to live where one of the top burn centers in my part of the country is located. These little bears would have received weeks to months of care, depending on how severe their burns were. First and second degree burns would heal fairly quickly and not require the repeated debridement and rebandaging that third degree burns require. I can’t imagine how terrified these two babies were during the fire. And all alone without their mom. It wonderful to see these two reunited back together again. It’s like they started back where the last were together.

Being together gives these little bears better chances when they’re back in the wild - they may physically support each other or not, but growing up with a family, learning to bear together, is as important for them as for us. Just beautiful to see them wrassle and soft bite each other when they were reunited 💔❤️

I am an old, so I can recall: I grew up on Mutual of Omaha animal specials. I can still sing their jingle. I am so happy that they are returning to that tradition. I was recently wondering what had happened to that corporate initiative. Their icon is a Hart. A special sort of male deer. It is only fitting that they help nature, and fund those whom do. Thank you for bringing one beautiful thing from my childhood back to life. 💋

What a truly heart warming reunion between those two bear cub siblings and thanks to all of the people who were responsible for their rescue and medical care.

I hope when they are released they will be released at Dave's lands. It's their first home

Better release them somewhere with an intact wood. Living upon burnt acres is hardly a pleasure and they will starve soon...

I’m wondering how they can be released without their mother bear to continue raising them..
@karenrosgen45863 жыл бұрын
@@katzlevyalon they won't be released until the are able to care for themselves that will take time.

Hello, I’m a long time volunteer at PAWS so I can kind of give you some insight. While I can’t tell you for sure where they’ll be released since there was a fire in the area, PAWS does try to release animals in the same place they were originally found. If the damage is severe to the area, they may try to find somewhere a little further but it’s likely they’ll at least be released somewhere that is familiar to them. They do consider familiarity important for the releases.

@@katzlevyalon The Cubs are released once they’re big enough to survive on their own, around the time they’d be leaving their mother. PAWS does try to mimic natural food set ups when possible so they can have a good chance of survival when back out in the wild.
