More than two cyclists are killed per day by traffic crashes in the United States, and the number of fatalities is on the rise. The Bear National Team, a youth development cycling team, has unfortunately felt those numbers firsthand, having lost two of its own in the past four years.
Following their most recent loss last summer, the team and its riders chose to focus their team’s annual initiative in 2024 on raising awareness to prevent distracted driving and improve rider safety.
In addition to making drivers more aware of the dangers of distracted driving and making themselves more visible on the road, the team’s riders are also getting involved in supporting cycling infrastructure projects in their own communities, such as protected bike lanes, to make cycling safer for all cyclists.
The Bear National Team includes mountain bike, gravel and cyclo-cross riders ages 15 to 22. They’ve been a Bikeflights-sponsored team since 2019.
