Thanks for a great video. I completed the repair today with new bearings and shaft. Before re installing the tub I checked the drive shaft to see if it would spin freely. It seems to bind about half way through a full turn. However, I am still able to turn it by hand. Please give me any suggestions.. Thx

Really good instructional video. I was able to make the repair myself because of your video and saved me a ton of money. Thank you.. I just ran into one problem during the repair, which kept holding me up and it made the job take much longer. It turns out I didn't have the installation tool assembled properly - user error. Once I figured that out, it all went back together properly. The only thing I notice now is a very slight rubbing noise at the tail end of the spin cycle just before it comes to a stop. Any ideas on what might be causing that noise? I'm sure I just didn't get something lined up or something like that.

Thanks for the video. Took me 2.5 hours, had a issue with the hinges getting bent from being opening and closing about a dozen times. Also I could not get my basket out so I had to knock the shaft through from the bottom with some help from WD40. The nut on my bearing seating tool was 15/16. First load of laundry was a success! No airplanes leaving our laundry room!

Steven Gilber yeah they took care of their washer for sure. You don’t run into 7 year old washers that look like this. I was very happy while repairing this one. Get that tub puller I have linked in the description. You can probably get it cheaper at your part house, but it’s a lifesaver when you need it.

I'm getting an ol code after replacing the suspension rods (which got rid of the ul code). Emailed a local person about the bearing and they said the cost of the repairs was more than purchasing a new one...smh. I'm going to give this a shot since you made it look achievable. Thank you for your video instructions!

Make sure your hub is intact before you change out the bearing. Your basket should slide up and down on the shaft freely. If it does and it’s not making any noise I would refrain from changing the bearing just yet. The hub can break and cause a similar code. In my list of videos there is f71 error code. You can look at that in and that video it features the hub on a similar model. Good luck though!

I bought the replacement part (bearing kit - Amazon link in description) but later discovered it was for a slightly earlier version of my washer. It’s past the return period and I don’t want to throw away a new-in-box part. If someone wants this it’s yours for free, or for shipping only if you care to do that. USA only, though. Great video Bearded One, thank you! A few questions: 1. Is it possible to just get the two bearings and tub seal and replace only those parts without having to buy the full $100 kit? 2. If yes, do you know the bearings and tub seal part numbers? (the bearing numbers should be stamped on the bearings) Matching up the bearings with the same brand or a different brand should be no problem if you have the part numbers. Common brands like Timken, NSK, Koyo, NTN, etc. probably make these bearings. 2. Can the bearings be installed by just tapping them in with a hammer and appropriate size socket instead of having to use the special installer tool? 3. What type of grease and tub seal sealant (glue) can you use if you don't buy the whole kit? Will regular silicone/waterproof grease be OK? Could you use regular silicone sealant as the glue? (letting it dry completely of course) Really hope you can answer these questions. Many thanks!
@BeardedApplianceRepair4 жыл бұрын
It will be a lot easier to get the full kit. Also you don’t want to use other than OEM parts. They can be off just a smidge and cause you a major headache with a longer than intended job. You probably can just tap it into place but it may be a pain. If you do it that way definitely get the OEM kit. I do not know the separate part numbers. If they are parted out they will probably cost more than the whole kit anyways. Make it easier on yourself is my recommendation.

I realize im 5 years late but.....Did you clean small weeping hole in side of shaft holw. I press in top bearing only first with press tool. Remove tool components from bottom, then slide tube on threaded part of tool, then washer, then lower bearing, tool bushing, tool bearing, tool nut. Tighten nut until bearing bottoms out against washer and tube. 1/8 " or so of bottom bearing edge should be sticking out of tub hole. Remove tool from bottom then rest of it from top. Be sure top bearing is seated as well. Slide in shaft from top. Put a piece of wood on top of shaft and tap with hammer until threads on bottom of shaft are sufficient to thread on nut. Apply blue thread locker to nut. Thread on nut. Tighten slightly with wrench. Do not over tighten or bearing will bind and throw a code. Go back to top with seal. Use. Supplied grease to fill both center hole grooves on seal. Now apply supplied ahesive to outside edge of seal. Cavity side down insert seal on shaft slide down to fit on top of top bearing. Use white pvc pipe that comes with tool slide it over shaft until seal seats. Against top bearing. Apply ahesive around outside edge of seal between liner and outside edge of seal. (Not next to shaft). Return to underneath washer. Reinstall stator grey shield. Reconnect speed sensor wiring, reinstall stator, install stator bolt using blue threadlocker, reinstall rotor cover. Check that rotor cover turns freely and without dragging on liner or stator center. If it will not turn or drags. Remove rotor again go to top using wood on top of shaft tap the shaft with hammer some more. Keep installing rotor cover and tighting center bolt until it turns freely with binding. The shaft nut will need retightening again once rotor cover turns freely. Remember to reapply blue threadlocker to shaft nut and rotor cover bolt on final tightening. Do not use excessive torq on rotor bolt. Remember its plastic.

I’m following these instructions, but ran into a problem. The shaft doesn’t stick out far enough on the bottom to attach the bolt. The threads are not exposed. I’ve been tapping on the top of the shaft with a hammer, but it won’t go any further. Any suggestions?
@BeardedApplianceRepair4 жыл бұрын
Have to make sure everything in the middle, the sleeve, and the other washer is align just right to let it through. Sometimes the skinnier piece get slid over and won’t let it through all the way. If all that is lined up either tap it in with a rubber mallet or dampen the regular hammer with a piece of wood to protect the shaft.
@miked26814 жыл бұрын
I found out why the shaft wouldn’t go all the way in. The new shaft from the kit has a larger diameter. It won’t fit through the lower washer. I would not recommend the kit I bought. I had to put the old shaft back in. That seems to fit. Now I have to finish putting it back together and see if it works.

Just replaced the bearings and now get oL code when tested. Used the rinse and spin cycle to test, so no clothing in the tub. Any suggestions?
@BeardedApplianceRepair4 жыл бұрын
The basket needs to float where there is no resistance on the basket. The way this washer works is really cool. When you get an OL code most of the time the basket is stuck on that shaft. Try to lift it up and see if it will move. If its stuck you will have to find out why. Try cleaning the middle of the basket where the shaft goes through it. Either that or the shaft size is just slightly off. we always recommend you install OEM parts. They may be more expensive but they are an exact fit.

Boy the quality of these washers has gone to hell what a pos that thing is more plastic than metal I guess I won’t buy a new Maytag washer I thought my 30 year old Maytag was bad quality I guess I’m going to keep fixing it because it’s a hell of a lot better made than this junk what’s next cardboard parts, why won’t anyone make a quality machine anymore sure it will cost more money upfront but I would gladly pay more for a quality machine with machined parts that’s built to last I have equipment from the 1950s and the quality is unbelievable this equipment is still running better after 70 years than anything new right out of the box you don’t give a second thought to rebuilding this older equipment so you can get another 70years out of it, you can’t justify spending more money on parts to fix an old machine than the price of a new machine until you get a look at the new machine than it’s a no brainer I am shocked that they sell new appliances at all who is stupid enough to replace a old machine after looking at the lack of quality of the new ones
