Thanks for this video! It looks like Maytag changed the design. Mine has a tall center shaft so first you need a ratchet extension of about 12”. Upon taking off the agitator, they’ve gone with a spindle with spline system that’s akin to bike 3pc crank and spindle. My washer’s about 4-1/2 years old, top load. I did find a broken zipper, maybe that was creating the squeal. Reassembling now and will test. If that didn’t solve it, then the next options start to become more of a hassle!

Sounds like the bearings were getting noisy and may need replacement as well. They could have been compromised too. I agree that the coins could have caused some agitator jamming, not to mention, small enough objects could get through the filter in the outer tub that could damage the drain pump too. A good reason to check all pockets and clothing for trapped solids that could cause these types of washer failures. How much up and down movement should the tub have once the agitator is repaired/replaced? Thanks for taking the time to do the video. Nice job.

Thank goodness! I have a top load whirlpool with the glass top and I really thought it was my washer gear case (motor that spins wash plate/agitator), and that piece is like $200! But I decided to try this piece first since it’s the cheapest and I’m about to install it. Mine is making the same nasty noise and won’t wash my clothes good and splines on my wash plate are also wore down. My washer also had coins 🙈. My husband decided to put some medical coban around the part the wash plate/agitator connects to and it started working normally for the first cycle so then I was certain it was the wash plate/agitator. I've NEVER been happy with water levels (same on ALL settings), cleaning capabilities, lid lock feature, or wash times. The benefits of saving water only adds to use of more electricity, and those features are not a priority for me. MY ISSUE: -app. 2 weeks ago, huge clumps of half dissolved/rinsed detergent on numerous items in load -diagnostic test specified actuator error code -replaced, test cycle, calibrated, no error code, BUT still much detergent residue -cleaned ALL drain hoses and removed small nail from inside pump... Spins freely -inlet filters clean, supply lines have good water pressure -drain hose is in correct position -ran washer on its CLEANING cyle -calibrated, test cycle, result... Another detergent clumped load -repeated diagnostic/test.... new error code LID LOCK PLEASE HELP! The owner's manual is useless, and we live in such a rural area, Jesus will return before we can get service/technician.

When you run the washer try running it with hot water. If your using pods they won’t resolve properly unless the water is a certain temperature. Also when you mention clumped up detergent it makes me thing it’s not getting enough water. Does it fill up properly? Using warm water is good for your machine helps keep it clean so when you can use hot or warm to help clean it out as it’s being used. I find many customers and I used to do this myself but I would only use cold water in everything. Even towels lol. Make sure you wash white in hot along with towels. Helps with everything cleaner clothes and washing machine. Is that the only issue. The clumped up detergent? The codes may be confusing you. If it will fill, agitate, drain and spin. That’s all your washer really does. My instincts tell me you have a fill problem. Great information for me to build on too to try and help.

@aeroman52392 жыл бұрын
If the wash plate spline is stripped, as indicated in the video, it will be difficult to remove the bolt. However, I used a my impact driver and a 7/16" hex bolt bit to break the bolt loose, otherwise, using a normal socket and rachet, it will just spin the shaft. With the bolt removed, since the wash plate spline was stripped, it was quite easy to pull the wash plate up and off the drive shaft. When installing the new wash plate, make sure to apply blue Loctite to bolt threads before installing the bolt. The Loctite is required to prevent the bolt from backing out while in-use.
@darkegress4392 Жыл бұрын
100 percent correct on the Loctite. I did not apply Loctite and the bolt came lose and destroyed the spline. Keep an eye out for coins and lift them out after every wash using two kitchen knives so they don't wear down and slip under the plate. Anyone else have clothes being cut up? I think overloading might press the clothes down under the plate to be torn, cut, ripped. The worn coins could be a factor as well in the clothing damage.

I have a question for you. What would cause a drum to start banging into the sides once it gets up to higher speeds during the spin cycle? I had to replace the hub because the drum wasn't spinning with the agitator. After replacing the hub, now the drum starts banging as I described above. The springs and rods look to be in good shape. I feel as if the space between the transmission shaft and drum is to wide and causes it. I had to hold the drum up a little to get the hub to screw down all the way.
@duandlew52062 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue. The play between the shaft and the inner tub makes it so that the tub cannot hold a balance. So when the spin cycle starts, it just starts banging into the sides shaking the whole machine. the play is cause by either a loose or broken tub bearing or tub seal. To get to it you need to take the wash plate off and remove the inner tub. The banging put a lot of wear on the machine so the sooner you fix it the better

I replaced my bearings that were shot. My stator is cracked but I reinstalled it. I reused the old shaft because the new shaft's skirt was too low and couldn't get the threads to show in the bottom after tightening the bearings x 3. When I compared it with the old shaft there was a 1/2 difference. So put it all back together and did first load with jeans and colors. All went great, very silent clothes came out all dry. The third load the machine was squeaking during spin and would throw the uL code even after I repositioned the clothes more than four times. What do you think is causing that? Cracked stator? Over tightened bearings?

So our washplate doesn't move freely as you show. We do have the same grinding or ratcheting noise. Should I start with replacing the washplate?

Hi I was wondering about my whirlpool same model in this video. I find that it is pouring water on spin cycles and the clothes aren't spun out well. I actually have to ring them out by hand.

I am trying to replace the drive hub on my Kenmore top loader. The U clip won’t go into the hub. Will the machine work without that u clip in there?

I watched the video and it was exactly like what is going on with mine. Grinding noise was spot on. I just received my wash plate today, installed it and started the machine. Still grinding and not agitating. What should I look at next? I'm very rural and can't find a company that will service my area. The machine is only 2 years old. My old Maytag was 24 years old.

I have the same issue but the bolt backed out and the washplaye came off , I'm ordering a new wash plate but in the meantime I wrapped some electrical tape around tightly around the transmission shaft . Running a lid now ,hopefully it works

What part’s should I order? You didn’t show putting the part in.

I have a question for you. I have a maytag centennial washer and I am doing the repair myself however the hub looks burnt on the inside "ridges" and the basket won't pull out of the washing machine. I ordered a new hub but the burnt look concerns me. Please reply asap and advise

Thanks for the vid. I think my Cabrio is grinding during the water discharge cycle. I will definitely check the wash plate. I had already replaced the discharge pump and discharge hose b/c of a leak.

Great video. Our noise is somewhere between the unrepaired and repaired audios you played. The washer plate on my Whirlpool 4950 model does not rotate freely in either direction, it is attached to the tube. Is there another way to confirm the agitator is the problem? I will remove the nut and washer plate to visually verify the condition of the teeth but was wondering if you had another way to troubleshoot the noise. Thank you.

When I lift the adjudicator I feel a hard stop with and without the bolt in. I also could not get the adjudicator out. Tried to pry it and it won't budge. Whirlpool WTW500DW1. What is my issue?

We have a whirlpool just like that inside.sounds like that almost and doesn't spin good. Clothes coming out soggy. Have to ring out by hand. Bought it at Lowes 3-4years ago. Seems they don't have the keep warranty or purchase in files. Hope I can figure out how to take it off.can't afford to buy another one or fix it. Saw alot of video's that says it also has to be reset any time a part is changed. How do your know if the part your offering is the right one for my machine. Not to waste money ...

I have a WTW8500DW0 …. I replaced the wash plate with a new one. It is still making the load noise… you talk about an agitator is that something that goes inside the wash plate?

Question: Should the washer plate spin at all? Mine turns with the whole basket.
@zseeko3 жыл бұрын
yeah, good question. mine doesn't move either.

@@zseeko I think if you look down the questions someone else asked this a while ago. I didn’t notice when I initially asked. Apparently it’s supposed to be that way when the machine is off. At least that’s what the reply to the comment says.

My Maytag washer is making that grinding noise so I'm definitely going to repair that part thanks for troubleshooting that for me but my washer will also leak every now and then not every time but I will get a puddle of water underneath how can I diagnose where that's coming from
