For the PPF, a couple of suggestions on the application. It's similar to putting a flexible protector on your phone screen. Spray the slick/baby shampoo/water onto your hands to peel it off so hand body oils don't transfer to the PPF. Then spray liberally on the protector sticky side itself. That makes it easier to maneuver into place correctly.

Was only going to do front PPF but started reading about this issue months ago and decided to go will full PPF. Just ordered mud flaps and will be making an appointment to get PPF on the front surfaces plus I'll inquire about adding the rear door area so they can do them at the same time. The shop I've used locally on the last 4 vehicles quoted me a price of $1299 for just the front kit and over $5k for the full body. I've always been happy with just the front areas on the Model 3 and other vehicles we own so I'll probably stick with just the flaps and front PPF plus door areas you show here. We picked up our new 2023 Model Y 11/05/22 so want to protect it as soon as possible. Thanks for all the info.

Based on your recommendation, I have purchased the mud flaps from RPM Tesla Aftermarket Accessories, and installed only the front ones at this time. Easy installation and nothing to drill. The passenger side fits marginally better than the driver's side, but both are good, so it will be interesting to see how they perform, long term. I didn't install the back ones yet because they will do nothing to prevent the chips from appearing on the rear door. I've also ordered the Model Y PPF from Tesla and the shipping manifest says it should be delivered by 4/1. I'll let you know how that goes on. FYI, I have had PPF professionally installed on the front of the Model Y, primarily because of the front snout. So far, so good, with less that 1,000 miles on the car.

Keep in mind that while the Tesla kit protects the painted area, the lower black plastic trim is not protected and takes the bulk of the damage. If you’re going to go with mud-flaps and the Tesla PPF, I’d advise you to also create a couple pieces of PPF and protect the plastic too. That area ends up looking way worse that the painted area. Yea, you could do touch up with their kit. its pretty extensive though, would be very hard to get it to look right.

Do you think the mud flap and side door corner ppf is enough as they are now standard on the Y now? My car is finally coming in a week, I am still debating should I do full front PPF or just leave it

A friend's Model 3 looks WAY, WAY worse after 2 weeks than his previous Volvo and Audi after 3-4 years and 60.000 km. Install the LARGE mudflaps ASAP.

Like you, I installed the Tesla mudflaps as SOON as I could get them. I am curious, do you think there's a real impact to range from these? Given they're right behind the front wheels, I believe the impact to range is negligible but wondering if I should be concerned.

I have the telsa flaps already delivered. Just waiting 2 weeks for my model y. Noticed the RPM flaps a few days ago. Do you think those would work as well despite being 3/4th of an inch shorter? Not sure how they compare width wise to the tesla flaps. The RPM look more visually pleasing. Thoughts? Is the PPF needed or will the flaps do the trick. Also do you feel like rears mud flaps are needed?
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think rear flaps are necessary. The PPF is so cheap considering and totally worth it. Mud flaps will get most, but not all the debris. RPM mud flaps do indeed look quite a bit better.
@deanjonson65253 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Thanks for the reply last thing do you think think the telsa flaps offer better protection than the RPM? Since they are longer? Thanks love the channel.
@craigbeattie52093 жыл бұрын
Do the mud flaps effect efficiency? It seems like it would decrease the car’s aerodynamics. Perhaps u could conduct a test comparing efficiency with and without the mud flaps?
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
it would be minimal. they are similar in width as the tire is.

5k for a full wrap?? How much for an exterior paint job?? I had an old Porsche repainted including hood, trunk and door jams with some minor body work for a little over $2k but that was like 10 years ago. I guess painting went way higher since then.

You ceramic coated the car right? Did you strip it off or did the ppf just stick over the ceramic? It's going to be an undertaking to repair the paint for sure. For the time being I'm gonna go with "chicks dig battle scars" I'm just hoping it doesn't rust at those spots. I'll get ppf on order for sure! We're learning as we go!
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
I did have to strip the ceramic in the area. The good news is the doors are aluminum so they shouldn’t rust.

I noticed the Tesla PPF kit instructions only require a baby shampoo/water solution bottle. However, other PPF kits also require an isopropyl alcohol/water solution bottle. Did you use the isopropyl alcohol/water solution bottle from the previous PPF video to install the fender protection?
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
I cut that part out of the video because I didn’t actually use the alcohol. I had it ready though. Since it’s a simple shape without complex stretching, so it doesn’t need to be used.
