Tesla Model Y & 3 - 7.5" Rear Screen Review & Install

Our Tesla Model Y just received a new upgrade from Hansshow. The new 7.5 inch smart touch screen brings a whole host of new features to our beloved Model Y. But at nearly $550, is it worth it?
Well, I think there are 2 answers to this question and they both depend on your situation. For us, we have 2 young kids and the screen adds entertainment for them in the back which makes for a peaceful ride.
The install on this was surprisingly easy. Regardless of if you are looking at installing on your Model Y or Model 3, the install process is the same. The kit even comes with a removable plate to accommodate USB-A and USB-C so no matter your year of Tesla, the kit fits them all.
Most people should be able to complete this upgrade in about 30 minutes. It is not an overly difficult job and everything is 100% plug and play. When complete, the screen looks like it is OEM and has always been there.
This screen adds a whole host of new features, some of which are, rear climate control, rear heated seats control, streaming from your favorite video apps like KZbin, Netflix and Amazon, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. You can even load movies on an external drive and plug that into this system to have offline viewing wherever you are.
In order to access the streaming services in the back of you Model Y, you will need to be connected to wifi, a hotspot, or it appears this will allow for 4G capability soon. Unlike the screen in the Refresh Model X and Model S, this screen gives you much more flexibility in how the audio is streamed. This means that regardless of what's happening on the rear screen, the front occupants can continue to listen to the radio.
With all of that, I think this is worth it for people with young kids and ride share drivers like Uber and Lyft. If you travel frequently in your Tesla Model Y or Tesla Model 3, this is a great way to enhance the premium features in your car.

I feel like with so many kids having tablets/handheld games, etc these days, and one can assume if this is a family car, kids will mostly be in the back seat, it doesn’t seem like its even necessary. For the price of this you can get an ipad or a Nintendo Switch to keep the kids busy in the car and they are more portable than this fixed screen.

I just got mines today! I noticed it's always on even when I'm driving by myself. Is there a way to keep the display off when there's no passengers in the backseat? No point of the display being on when there's nobody in the backseat. Thank you!

I have a USB flash drive, is there a way to transfer movies to “local video”? That way passengers can watch movies without the need of wifi/hotspot while on a road trip? I’m trying to do it and rear screen won’t recognize the USB. Am I doing something wrong?

BTG, do you have any recommendations for a roof sun shade? I got the one from Tesla, but its net kind of fabric doesn’t do a great job protecting from heat and light on a sunny day.

It can only operate on wifi though right? Not the Tesla subscription like the front? So either your home wifi when you’re near or your phone via hotspot. I installed a different model and it after operating for a bit it was super hot so I decided to return it.

Question I’m going to pull the trigger and buy a Model 3 but they don’t have a car with stock 18inch rims for me to test drive I drove the rear wheel with 19in rims is there a difference in the ride I’m looking for a softer ride and the bigger tire on the 18 should be softer of course the 19 looks a little better. Can someone give me some advice? Is the ride the same 19 have 40profile and 18 have 45 profile. I have a back injury and that’s why I’m going for comfort. Thanks

Did you all have to do anything special to connect the audio. I connected the Bluetooth from the car to the device and I can see the video or the audio playing but no sound is coming out. I tried resetting my car computer but still nothing works. Thank you.

A screen like this would be nice for the show-off factor. It is unfortunate that it uses Android 11, which is three releases (years) ago. Newer versions of Android are specifically designed to work better on tablets.

Google mostly added features to help with the usability, such as a dedicated taskbar along the bottom of the screen (like what is found on most desktops) and easily running multiple apps at once, including side-by-side. Of course, running an older version of Android comes with the inevitable security concerns as well.

Does some one have the "factory password"? It's not in their manual. The 10.25" screen from them also, the "factory password" was in the manual, but can not use it in this 7.5". Bought this one, problem that I have is the time, it's alway 6hours ahead. Manually adjusted, but next morning 6h ahead again. Not much help from the service desk, still no answer from them.
