The bad news is that my wife didn’t want to wait for the non-foundation editions to come out, let alone on the tax credit, probably expecting the wait to be Much longer than it’s become, so we’ve been massively enjoying our AWD Foundation edition. The good news is we probably never would’ve bought full self driving otherwise, and later this week, our Powershare gateway and higher speed charger will be installed (from 7.4 kW to 11 kW)!

Be careful about selected options. If you add options (like FSD), it will take you above the threshold for the tax credit. MSRP is the retail price of the automobile suggested by the manufacturer, including manufacturer installed options, accessories and trim but excluding destination fees.

FSD shouldn’t change eligibility since it’s software. Only physical hardware options should change the eligibility.

This is not official on Tesla's end. I talked with a Tesla representative today that said Tesla just sent them a memo today that said it wasn't official and to wait until they give them further instruction.

250 miles of range is not enough for a truck. That's 210 miles on the highway driving conservatively. Or, 140 - 150 miles from 80% to 10%. That's not enough. I currently own (my son's now) a 2023 Ford F150 Lightning XLT with the standard range battery. Before the Tesla network opened for Ford, it was damn near impossible to road trip at all in my area. Even now, if 1 Tesla station is offline, there is nowhere to charge except dealerships during working hours. From my experience, 121 kwh is the bare minimum. The 170 kwh battery from GM looks better. But without FSD and the Tesla eco system, I still think I would choose the AWD model Cybertruck.

The $7000 tax credit is a joke. In California, EV renewal registration costs from $600-1000 per year. So, within 7-9 years, the government gets all the tax credit back. For comparison, the registration cost of a combustion car is much lower. Let's be honest: this tax credit is not free.

Help me decide YT community... Tesla CT or Ford Lightning Platinum? Ford lightning seems more practical and doesn't attract the negative attention. But Tesla software and updates far exceed Ford. I have a MYP and looking to have my wife drive it once I get a truck. I'm mixed about the CT appearance I don't hate it but I also feel like I don't love it. But maybe that would change once I see one up close and test drive?
