Please PINNED THIS so more non bts fans would know I promise you this , the more you dive into bts music and learn about them. You start to understand why their huge . And have a little More respect for them . I’m NOT asking you to be a huge fan of them , but understand the “why and how factor “ Bts is more then just a kpop group , more then just a boyband who caters to just teenage girls ( FYI their fanbase is diverse of all ages and race ) their a movement! BTS is huge is because they separate themselves from other kpop groups . They want their music to inspire change , motivate people and spread positivity. And challenge societal norms / stereotypes. The English translation of their korean name is “Bullet proof boy scouts “ BTS isn’t just currently the biggest kpop group right now , their the biggest GROUP AND BOYBAND in the world right now out beating current mainstream American artists and groups . Ironically some bts fan don’t like them being labeled as a “boyband” because usually comes with negative comments and people thinking they don’t write their own music but the reality is BTS actually write their own music and produce. They have had members who produce music for other artists in Korea as well. Also what’s funny some fans don’t like to box bts as “kpop group “ because of how much accomplishments and impact they made not just for themselves but for kpop community , American music industry and Asian Artists in general . Their name connects to their music. Bts is respected because they tackle a lot of issues and societal problems that occur within Korea that also RELATES to anyone in the world. Korea is known for mental health and suicide issues. It’s considered to be TABOO to bring up sensitive topics like this. You have to understand the country is very strict and conservative. BTS music tackles topics such as mental health, suicide, depression, addiction, parent abuse , anxiety, generation gap and differences between the old generation and new young generation, corrupt , academic system And teaching people about self love and self respect , self care . Their music connects to all ages/ gender : men , women , boy, girls . Which is why their fanbase is huge and VERY DIVERSE. So please don’t think their fanbase is just teenage girls . Overall , BTS is popular and highly respected because they work hard to become more then just a pop group , but a positive inspiration . They show music has the power to transcend and translate messages regardless of AGE, gender, race or religion . Highly recommend checking out these articles cause it helps explain what their music is about and breaks down their song meanings www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/how-bts-are-breaking-k-pops-biggest-taboos-628141/ www.billboard.com/articles/columns/k-town/8098832/bts-lyrics-social-commentary-political www.nolala.com/en/artist-in-spotlight/what-is-the-meaning-of-the-songs-of-the-south-korean-k-pop-group-actually-about/ www.sbs.com.au/popasia/blog/2018/03/16/12-bts-songs-strong-social-messages

A lot of groups dealt with a really wide range of issues, a lot have been struggling from the start coming from a small and poor agency some are still struggling, some failed to succeed some find the success. A lot of groups are also listened by a wide range of age or diversity and the list goes on. Bts deserves to be hyped up about all their breakout achievements and they deserve the success they got but y’all need to stop with that narrative stating all of these facts as if groups prior them or that debuted around the same era didn’t had the same struggles, and as if no one talked about this issues prior to this. Let people love them for their sound and what they are and stop with that narrative already. Most of y’all going on with that didn’t even know bts when they debuted and y’all don’t even know other groups and the history of kpop. Learn about the industry and the history of it first.

"Black swan" is inspired by a quote: "a dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and this first death is much more painful". "Black swan" is about their fear that some day they'll lose their passion for music and that would be their first death. BTS do a lot of different genres: Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, EDM, Latin, Rock, Ballads, etc. That's why the age and gender of their fans are diverse. I think you should check out "On. Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima" (they won "best choreography" and "best pop at VMAs for this song). Also I strongly recommend you to check out "This is BTS. Introduction to BTS (part 1)" by xCeleste.

Yes Jimin is not only good at hip hop and various types of modern dance, but also contemporary dancing. When he dance, it just mesmerising! Regardless of the song or the type of dance he is doing your eyes are always drawn to him. dance that he has learned in school, ballet and contemporary dance it’s are more present in him when it comes to dancing, He is born to perform. ☺️

please react to This Is BTS introduction to BTS by Xceleste bts does ALL genres of music theres 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. no song is the same as the ones before unless intentional. Lyrics are one of the most important things about bts. its the lyrics that makes casual listener into a army. army is bts fandom name and were NOT just little girls the fandom is most adults. black swan is about the fear of losing your passion for music. also lmao im sorry but comparing bts to any boyband like bsb is a insult to bts. bts arent just a boyband or just kpop. it runs way deeper than that their music has actual meaning isnt cliche and they all write and produce their music. theyve been a group for 7 years armys are tired of the band comparisons now cause the west uses it to pass them off as a fad. theyre the biggest group in the world right now. :)

If you want to see the entire choreography watch them perform this song on the James Corden show, it was their first performance of Black Swan ever and it was before this music video was even released. I don't know if it would be copyrighted so you can just watch it on your own time if you want to watch it. And the theater in the video I believe is the Los Angeles Theater. They shot this video and both their videos for their song On in the United States. Thanks for reacting.

@@purplexed3988 exactly, when i 1st saw BTS with the BWL MV, i thought Jimin was a girl, then eventually I realized I was wrong and now I'm a fan. People shouldn't gatekeep this much. Just think of it like this: If I'm not familiar with Kpop and my only exposure to boybands is BSB or Nsync, the 1st comparison that I would make is that BTS is like BSB, because they're boybands. But when you look further into their discography, you will eventually see the difference and what makes BTS better. Also, there is nothing wrong with comparing them to BSB, they will always be in the hall of fame of the greatest boybands in history.

the style of dancing you were refering to is contemporary dancing. its a mixture between ballet and just human movement (ie, the martial arts and such) and its much less restrictive than ballet. black swan was inspired by Martha Graham's famous quote about how a dancer dies twice, and the first death (which is when you have to stop dancing) is the more painful one. i believe the song is also inspired by the movie black swan which is a movie about a ballerina slowly going insane and losing her passion.

The ocean floor metaphor is a little different from what you thought. "Struggle but it's all ocean floor..." What's at the ocean floor is intense PRESSURE. So they're saying that the PRESSURE they feel is that great. It's a song about fearing the loss of what you love, your art. Also the ballet dancing is only one of them - Jimin, he's a hip hop/popping dancer who went onto train as a contemporary dancer.

Hi, some things about this boys. *Bts Is south Korean group, this days people prefer don't mix them with kpop. Kpop is just a label to say that everything that comes out of Korea is that (false) bts is not considered kpop because of its great repertoire of genres and that it does not follow the same line of the kpop industry. 1. They are 7, 4 vocalist, 3 rappers (2 underground rappers) all dancers 2. Bts compose and produce their own music, so is very personal, they talk about mental health, politics, society, their fans, self love, etc 3. They have a story behind their videos so is difficult to new people understand, we (the armys) used to read a several books and study set, philosophy, psychology and mythology to understand. Their last album for example was "map of the soul: 7" and is inspired by the psychologist book the map of the soul by Murray. 4. The army love them because they are good people who through a lot of bad things to be where they are now, and even being famous they stay humble. 5. They have a lot of genres but their base is very hiphop / rap. Also you can find subtitles in every possible language thanks to the fans, u only need to search with the name of the song. **Bts always present themselves as a Korean group, and always said they don't want to be labeled in a genre or industry. The fans also do not want to be mixed with kpopers, (most of us aren't kpop fans) we don't have the same ideals

Hey, kumusta Dana, Did you know that the BTS song “Black Swan” was co-written by two Filipino artists? August Rigo and Vince Nantes shared that the song was created in collaboration with each other and other songwriters and producers. The song is part of the album “Map Of The Soul: 7,” whose lead single “On” was also co-written by August. According to August and Vince, they landed the project through Brian Puspos, another Pilipino artist who also choreographs BTS’s performances. Vince was born in the Philippines but was raised in Chicago. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he was able to work with artists such as Apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas, and met August. Why every new reactor compare them to Backstreet Boys? I don't recall Backstreet Boys can dance like them even though I've been through that era. Usually, I am pretty chill but it's really getting annoying when everyone is saying the same thing just because of the stereotype of boy band. BTS write and produce their own songs unless they are in English.

To understand BTS songs you have to pay attention to what album it belongs. Cause like Taylor Swift Folklore album had 3 songs that shows one story from 3 perspective and you understand songs better when you aware of it BTS whole albums series that belongs to one story arks. To understand "Map of the soul" series albums songs you have to familiarize yourself with Carl Jung and his Jungian model of the Psyche, cause whole all series follows it. And songs belong in some part of psyche while we fallowing BTS your journey to achieve individuation. Black Swan belongs to BTS Shadow. Parts of them selfs as artists they resent and try to ignore. English not my first language and honestly it is hard to explain it properly with limited vocabulary in my disposal.

I think the martial arts style that looks like breakdancing you were referring to was Brazilian capoeira. Love that you mentioned it. A few of the members have martial arts backgrounds. I think Jungkook has a lack belt in Tae Kwon Do and Jimin who did the move that triggered your thought has black belts in a variety of martial arts styles and also studied contemporary dance. I see you trying to compare with references that are familiar to you like the Backstreet Boys. As someone who was a backstreet boy fan and very much caught up in the boy band hype of them and *NSYNC, I have to put BTS in a much different league. BTS are complete artists and performers with creative control that write beautiful, deep lyrics and trained for years to hone their craft: writing, composing, producing, singing, rapping, dancing. There’s so much beyond their appearance and their music also doesn’t conform to the boyband love song formula. Hope that puts into perspective why fans might react strongly to such comparisons since they have been used by western media as well to pigeonhole and detract from the depth of BTS’s work as artists. It’ll be cool to see more reactions if you’re interested and feel free to look up lyrics before you react or as part of the reaction by googling the song title +doolset. My personal starter recommendations are Group Song: Fake love or Anpanman on NBC Live Rap Line: Outro: Tear Live Vocal line: Dimple live or The Truth Untold Live BTS live is unreal. You nice, keep going 💜

Thank you for your reaction to BTS! Many of their songs written/produced by themselves are so relatable to ARMY/FANS (Young & Old of all Genders) coz they sang about Life Struggles, Self-Acceptance/Love, Mental Health, Social Taboos, Inspirations, etc. Some ARMY said BTS had helped them to overcome their depressions and struggles with the meaningful and positive messages in their songs. If you wish to know their background stories, please watch these links. Sorry...it's a lot. Great reaction, but please stop comparing bts to western boybands. PLEASE, and I mean PLEASE watch THIS IS BTS | Introduction to BTS [Part 1]. This is IMPORTANT, and it will tell you why we hate when someone compares a white boyband to them. Other than the fact that they are boys who sing in a group, there's no correlation. Whatsoever. If you really want to know more about them, watch the video i just recommended. If you don't want to know more and want to keep comparing them to groups you already know, just say so and we'll stop recommending. link to video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZSohHSImtl8b7c

interesting that you mentioned martial arts/fighting in dancing because jimin (the main solo dancer in this mv) was a top contemporary student and has a black belt in kendo and taekwondo. i see what you're talking about.

Your closing thoughts give me hope that you’ll appreciate BTS for their artistry. They care more about the creating music that transcends and connect than putting out hyped-up trendy bangers. I love their Bsides more than title tracks and that’s what sets them apart. They make concept albums and every song is carefully crafted. Some artists have hit singles but the rest of the tracks are meh. Not BTS. They also release solo projects which gives them freedom to express their own style so there isn’t that repeated history of other groups where someone leaves a group to go solo. There are no Bside MVs but fans make lyric videos so check out Outro:Tear, Cyphers, Sea, Everything Goes, Inner Child, My Time, Awake, Truth Untold, Stigma, Magic Shop, Dimple. Oh I can’t list them all bc there are way too many.

BTS has wonderful choreographers and they contribute as well. This theater is in Los Angeles. This song is about their fear of losing their connection to their 🎶 music.

BTS music and videos are always an experience, you can't just watch it once, it has to be multiple times to understand the message and the feelings they are conveying through their music, dance and videography. I get it that many first-timers to BTS tend to see them as 'like Backstreet Boys' because there is no other context to compare them but as you dive deeper, you'll start to understand they are like no other bands that have come before them and they are just BTS. Their discography, messages, dances, reality shows.....in fact everything about them will show you how diverse they are. These are seven very talented men who are different from each other and can easily stand independently on a stage and still be a Star, but have chosen to stay together. They music shows that diversity because they contribute to the music making process. So really nothing like Backstreet Boys, who are great in their own right.
