You're absolutely right - stopping to notice nature is one of the most soul-recharging things we can do.

Absolutely amazing Kim. And you are absolutely right, we should stop now and again to witness the beauty around us even if it is a sunset or sunrise over the rooftops. There is so much going on around us but because of busy lives we do not look. What a shame. Thank you for a lovely video.

The only thing better than discovering past joys in your archives, is getting out there and capturing more of nature's beauty.

This one really speaks to me. Several years ago I had one of those moments that left me awestruck. I described it this way: "What I did see however, were two mature Bald Eagles, (presumably male and female) soaring in wide circles, the sun in the background. I had two cameras in my knapsack, a digital Olympus for still pictures, and a JVC digital video camera. Besides them, I have camera functions in my cell phone which was in my pocket. I could have taken still and video images of those two eagles, and shared them with the world, but as I stood there I decided to leave things as they were. I could have captured the images, but there was no way to capture the feeling, the essence of that moment. That was between the eagles and myself. "

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have sat on a beautiful morning watching the fog roll over a lake with the geese waking up bathing, and set the camera to record video while stepping back to enjoy it myself. Those moments are priceless! Thank you for sharing your moments with us.

i've battled with this notion over the years, as i am unfortunately not able to get out in nature as much as i would like - due to health. and i have always known some experiences i would be beyond my skillset, so i leave my camera in my bag, so i would not miss that precious moment, and bear witness - as you say... that's a great way of saying it. but then as creatives, what we then have is nothing to share! because we are rightly taking in those wonderful moments. and i think we can still make great vids, even without those images or footage, to start a conversation about how it made us feel. this video i needed today, your words resonate with me a lot. what an absolutely great message to share with us.

Thanks Kim for sharing your work & interesting comments...I think we all overthink situations & not stop & smell the roses (as they say)...I am guilty of overthinking photo opportunities instead of just taking the picture...nature helps balance out perception of life around us.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊

The camera, for me, is a magic window through which I view the world. The hidden mysteries of the macro world. Unseen colours within flowers or the bugs on bugs. Maybe if I found my camera wasn’t able to record any images it wouldn’t, at times, matter at all.

Great video and shots Kim, your words and works are inspiring. If only more would appreciate what we are given for free, rather than focusing on material things. Keep up the great work, and looking forward to your next podcast or video. Stay well, stay safe, have a blessed upcoming week.

It's funny, while you were talking about just enjoying the beauty of nature, I was looking at that sunrise scene and noticing how the reeds in the water on the right side reached up into the shadow of the land on the distant shore and it was kind of bugging me. I wanted to reach through the screen and snip off those reeds so there was space. 😂 So I see what you mean. I think reminding us to enjoy the moment and forget about photography is great advice. After all, no matter how good we are at capturing the images, it's a pretty safe bet it won't be as good as mother nature. The photos will be a bit of a let down.

I used to chase the photograph, spending a lot of time picking the best locations, the best light using, the best equipment and following accepted guidelines only to be disappointed when expectations were not realized. Now I most often take my camera out and let the photograph find me... I'm sure you know what I am saying...
@RobtJMooreII8 ай бұрын
The beauty of photography is the capturing of a moment in time. Unfortunately, the act of photographing has become complex, superseding that premise. I don't remember the site, but earlier today I read an interview of your thoughts on this, and appreciated them. Speaking for myself, there's no way I could produce a video and a blog (on any topic) on a weekly basis. It would make the photography part too much of a job, for me. Maybe this is why I eschew the social media part of it. Take care, Ms Grant.

That were some stunning sunrise images both stills and videos.😀 Have you ever considered taking your photography to new heights, excuse the pun, and using a flying camera? January has been a bit of a windy month and my drone has not been out much, however putting aside the idea of a drone being a toy or an abomination to the peace and tranquillity of somebody somewhere, there are unique photographic and cinematographic opportunities just waiting to be explored. Could be an interesting thought experiment.

'') If I forget my camera, its almost guaranteed I will see something special.....almost to a point I dont bring it....I hope the tech gets smaller so to avoid digging into my bag to get a hold of a big chunk of black plastic... sometimes I just enjoy the moment, it makes it more special, its just for me '')
@kimgrantphotography9 ай бұрын
There's many small compact cameras out there Ted. I hope you find one that suits your needs. When we don't have the camera and nature shows us it's beauty, its lovely to simply surrender and enjoy the moment 😊
