The difference between A-move and right-click is like the difference between "Fire at will" and "Fire at Will"; one results in your troops just attacking who seems best to them, the other results in one unlucky foe with the wrong name being in real trouble, but leaving all his mates completely unharmed.

Also A-move invokes the spearwall (brace) which cancels the charge bonus of Royal knights which +3 damage or +10 with the French unique technology called "Canted Saddles". Plus the Royal Knight does +3 bonus damage for 3 seconds following a successful charge. So it is super important to A-move and brace (or just stand still and brace) against French Royal Knights. Right-clicking cancels spearwall and so the spears can get totally cleaned up by no brace damage against knights, charge damage against spears, and bonus melee damage for 3 seconds against spears.

Haha FML I've been right clicking enemy units this whole time. This video actually taught me quite a bit - would love to see more like this! Build orders are great but they only give you the first 5-10 mins, so it's really helpful to see tips/errors for mid to late game. Thanks Beasty

Mid game is so situation based so there's no accurate build to it. But if beasty reviews like a plat, diamond player who starts pretty good but messes up the middle game that'd be good yeah.

The Attack-Move also does the spearwall (brace). "Spearmen have an ability called 'spearwall' which allows them to brace for impact against incoming cavalry when they are idling or attack moving. This ability stuns and damages the cavalry units who reach the Spearman, while cancelling the charge effect of Knights and Lancers. If Spearmen are moving without attack moving, they will not brace against cavalry charges." When he right-click attacks on selected units they move there so he won't ever spearwall. Right-click attack = no bueno.

Even if you accidentally right click or your units are acting stupid you can press "S" to stop your units and they will engage straight away

I have good macro's and APM, just never knew about the A attack, and it always bothered when I attack and they dance around.

I learned the a-move trick the hard way back in wings. I used to something like 4 gates mass zealots back then And there is this one game where I was using 60 zealots to fight 80 pure marines ball and then proceed to lose just because I keep spam clicking the marine in the middle of the ball lmao.

Hi BeastyQt! I've watched most your videos, and this is the best video you've made in in humble opinion. I'm a Gold3 and I actually didn't know I needed to A click a EMPTY space on the map, like right in front of the enemy units, I would A click on a single unit ( not right click, but A click the UNIT ). Thank you for this hint! The hint regarding units inside the Red Palace was also nice, I had forgotten how much damage that building will do when fully loaded ( I don't play French ) Also ... Mangols, I know they're good against archers, spears and crossbowmen - but are they not also good against man at arms?

they are only useful against maa in nuanced situations. For example if 5 maa charge a mango then it's an easy win for the maa. But if you had the mango in the back of your base and the maa are taking tc fire whilst attacking a house and you pull that mango into position and let stones fall on their heads while they are preoccupied, this is when the mango has its place against maa.

the mango got nerfed a few months ago, so now it's pretty mediocre against maa (and even spearmen tbh). I mean like every area of effect it will still be good in a chokepoint, and if you have lot of them they'll have an impact, but you don't really make them in order to counter a non-ranged compo.

Its so funny that as a former Broodwar player from 2003 - 2006... i somehow assumed everyone knows about a-move.... in Broodwar you would usually make a run by with zerglings or zealots on for example dragoners and then press a-move after your first units passed behind the dragoons and some were still before so you could perfectly circle them and the zerglings would make a sperate circle around each dragoon... if you rightclicked all the zerglings would attack in a straight line to exactly in front of that 1 unit you right clicked and ignore everything else >-

The first time I've ever seen a pro player recommending A-Move. For lower league players, I can understand, especially if you don't have a specific target (like horsemen swarming to kill monks in the backline)

against full knights you could just go full spears and two trebs. The trebs will be dealing 84 damage per second and will melt a keep in about a minute. if he chooses to repair then he will be losing the man power of approximately 20 miners for every second that those trebs remain attacking.

I've played SC2 for like 10 years and I'm all about A-moving, but I recently started playing aoe4 and something seems off when I try to fast A-click quickly after pressing the control group. Seems like it doesn't always register or something. Is it me or is this a known issue in this game?... Never had this with Sc2

I use to give the units a stop command and then they would attack the enemies on sight aswell. I never tried the a move. Is stopping units same effective?

Sometimes i use stop command and not A move because A move makes units attack anything in their way including buildings. So, if im fighting in some enemy base i use stop command. In this case, my units have a priority on enemy units without buildings. But for stop command you need get the right timing so your units start making damage as soon as possible

Aoe2 certanly did. It didnt have an attack move, only patrol. So it was ignored by most people (me included as a kid). Attack move was added in DE

Hey I'm new to age of empires although not rts games and I can't figure out if I'm missing something but most games I play someone just hits me with ranged then moves their.units back a step and shoots and for some reason my units will not catch and kill them, Im assuming this is a glitch and will be fixed soon, and people will be banned for using it???

I think what you referring to is called “kiting”. Kiting is used by ranged units to hit and move away from the melee unit, thats why dont chase infantry archers with slow melee units (like spears) cause they can kite them for ever. I hope i explained what you meant

Im gonna asume you are not trolling here. That what you describe is a feature in all rts games, its not a glitch at all, its intended. People do that with marines in sc2 but other infantry units there (like zerlings or zealots) are faster and will catch up. In aoe2 infantry is slow and will never catchup to archers that way, so you need to engage with other archers, mangonels or cavalry

@@jimmyleonard8907 Yeah each rts game deals with kitting on its own way, in general in the AoE series, archers and cavalry archers can kite enemies like crazy and needs to be fought using something faster or with range to engage. Thats just the way how the franchise likes to manage the relationship between ranged units and melee units.

A is the keybind to attack when u have your units selected, so when u are moving with your army to an attack position u never right click, u press A and them left click were u want the army to move, clicking on the ground near were u want them to attack, this way u are moving with the attack command, so your army will move and as soon as something they can attack is in range they will attack, this way they attack everything that's on range, instead of moving like idiots trying to just attack 1 unit u clicked on. This is basic RTS games standard, for all RTS games since more than 25 years.

And u click on the ground with A move because if u press A and click on an enemy unit or enemy building u are just telling your units to attack exactly that, when u press A and click on the ground u are telling your units to attack anything that's on range near that ground u clicked on

I expected something like, Knight + Archer vs Spears + Horesman micro battles gone wrong. But nope, just a noob not knowing what hes doing. That displays how meaing full rank is, basically nothing. These dudes have to do be like 600 elo or something. In this season i had to play up from silver 1 up again because i fucked up my placement matches and i never EVER had an oponent playing like that all the way up now. I mean, you dont have to do perfect build orders or have to pick that and this landmark all the time. You dont lose a match, because you could have reached fudal ~2 secons earlier using an optimized buildorder, you dont lose because you pick a off meta landmark. This dudes losed because he did not know about basice game mechanics. You can win with home brewed meme build orders and landmarks and still win, if you know what you doing and get your oponent off guard. I'm at 54% win rate as HRE with Memework-Palace in all of my games and not using besty's build order, in many game i even do a dark age spearman rush and bully vils on gold and it works aganst many civs, even if i have to delay my age up by 1 minut. Just have a plan and dont be predictable. Do your own thing and have fun.

ah I figured thats why I lost a fight against French's knights in age 2 with my spears. I had 9 spears and he had 7 knights and I was confused as to how I lost that fight lol. Watching the replay made me facepalm as theyr were just running in circles instead of attacking, just like in the video. Won that match though, he came in hard into my base and I got a lucky wololo on 9 of his knights into GG.
