I'm with you. Beat leasing allows the smaller artist to compete with the big dogs and the producer gets a bigger cut if the record goes viral. Win-win. The alternative is to steal beats and then they end up with 0% after all that success.

Damn I feel this so hard. I hate selling exclusives to random people who just started making music and are already worried about splitting their royalties or using the same beat as somebody else. @StreetfighterU
@StreetfighterU 16 күн бұрын
Exclusive beats are almost never worth it (imo tho) because of the labour a producer puts into it vs benefits gained from it. Imo The time and effort put into a beat and for it to be exclusive has to be worth a LOT, and not just money wise but also getting your name out there and exposed to a larger fan base (likely being the rapper/singer’s fan base) when the official track gets released. If the artist doesn’t have that then what happens is that they start flaking or they disappear after the hype you get from working with them and seeing potential visions (that unfortunately don’t always pan out).

For sync, it may create issues if there are several different artists that have a lease on the same track. The sync license or library may require exclusive rights as a stipulation to sync the track for the length of time specified. Several artists shopping the same track to different libraries could cause an issue if its supposed to be exclusive with a particular agent.

It's baffling how many artist complaints stem from lack of awareness on the legalities. One situation that nobody talks about is when an artist buys an exclusive, prior licensing artists still hold the right to continue using their copy (in all contracts I'm aware of, including beatstars templates). If this is a dealbreaker, they should ask about prior licensors first. If everyone did their homework, wires wouldn't cross nearly as much. I appreciate you bringing light to the industry "what-if"s. The game needs more minds like yours!
@ripplesakaauditorygenius9682
@ripplesakaauditorygenius9682 8 күн бұрын
As an Artist and a Producer I see both sides. But Producers for the most part copy and paste contract templates and are not transparent whatsoever with anything. Let alone most don't even respond unless it leads to a bag. So how do you do homework on something when you don't know what the assignment is in the first place? How am I to know if you are a sample producer or an instrumentalist that plays every note? And your contract voids you of any responsibility by putting the burden on the artist. And then you don't even mention that you used a major sample? So if my track goes viral and their was a sample that didnt get cleared then I am the only person as the artist that loses anything. IT IS THE PRODUCER OR BEATMAKERS CHOICE TO USE THE SAMPLE SO WHY SHOULDNT YOU BE RESPONSIBLE AS THE PRODUCER FOR CLEARING IT? Especially younger artists wouldnt even know a sample was used most likely. I work with a couple producer that clear any sample they use in a beat they are going to lease or sell... The same legit producers who Don't charge extra for trackouts that are WAVS and dont charge extra for Sync Licenses on anything. Oh yeah and dont expect 50/50 splits on the new master publishing and writing. ALL for free that is, And they make amazing money not up charging for nonsense. Or stealing half of an artists royalties, by retaining ownership in every new master recording from every artist. When you claim the leases are royalty free and we keep 100% of what we make!!!! lol as with any business their is legitimate producers, and then there is scammers. Its not the business. Its the Persons within the business you choose to deal with.. BUT im sorry but not all, but most producers are like the state D.A. There is no regulation or accountability at the production level And they can do what ever they want with no responsibility whatsoever because the contracts all put it on the artist. What about All the beats Ive bought from people that claimed they produced the music but come to find out they stole the beats Much much later? You say do the homework... How am I to know if you are selling me what you say it is? Because Ive lost thousands in my younger years in the business purchasing beats for an entire album I recorded that ended up the Producer stole every single one of the beats he sold me. Unless Ive got lease bag money from upcharging for everything or pre music or trap money how do I go about getting my money and recoup for all the loss I took on a 3 year project? Because they had a lot more money then me So court would just cost me more funds I dont have. And they would just continue the courts or appeal until I couldn't afford to prosecute any more. And look at the Ren and the Kujo situation right now. Kujo stole the sample for sic boi from a Bulgarian choir recording, Leased an unlimited license to ren. Ren got copyright claims and the song removed. The biggest song of his career. A song abut his auto immune battles and an important song to many that use music to heal. under my understanding, while Ren was in treatment for his sickness for some of the Issues he spoke on in the song, when the song first got distributed the distributer forgot to not use content ID, for litterally like a month or so and then Ren updated everything and gave credit to the original producer and the samples. Even though Ren had messaged his entire team not to use Content ID because it was a leased beat. Simple misunderstanding. Well now KUjo claims Ren broke the contract because of that. Admits he stole the sample and removed sic boi as leverage, Is demanding 3000 pounds and 15% of the new master residually and retroactively since the release. Ren had to pay I believe something stupid like 10k pounds to clear the sample. And now his career changing song has been removed from everywhere. THE PRODUCER IS THE THIEF AND THE LIAR, Yet Kujo about to pocket Rens royalties on the new master for a beat that he admittedly and knowingly stole the music for... Ren loses not only money but I know for a fact that that song means the world to not only him. but thousands of people. Not to begin with the tens of thousands he paid for the music video, to be treated like he didnt have rights to use the music and it looks like he stole it. IDK pretty fucked if you ask me. Kujo Makes a fat bag and isnt responsible for anything in this situation?! Hmmmmmm, seems awefully like Every major label Ive ever dealt with. Its not a Scam..... But its Scandalous as F*ck and a very covert narcistic way of conducting business. And thats just one example. Where is the artists recourse for such incompetency in the industry? Wheres the accountability?

I try my best to catch your videos when I have a moment to! Your work does not go unnoticed, the quality within the last couple months has gone up tremendously to me, keep it up man! May I ask if you have considered having two channels, one for videos like this and one for your beats? I feel like CTR and Watch time is effected having a mix like this in my opinion. That way the people that only want to watch videos like this don’t have to scroll through your beat videos that they aren’t interested in. Just a suggestion, kinda like how some people have a channel for vlogs, main, shorts and etc. You are one of the main people putting on for producers, and I feel like your channel would grow even more. Nonetheless great work as always pain !

@@DJPain1I feel that. We’re always trying to figure it out. I feel like the producer community is still very new in terms of having faces and personalities and having insight / opinions on certain issues and subjects. Like how many producers that make videos like this have a million subscribers ya know? It’s that fresh, I can maybe think of a handful of channels, that will be the foundation to it such as yourself!! Been watching you for years and been on KZbin as a viewer for producers since 2010ish back when all we had were maschine how to videos and some mpc 2000xl videos 😂 good luck man we rooting for you

If I knew leasing beats even existed when I was more dedicated as an artist/songwriter 10-15 years ago I probably would be poppin off right now! Instead, I decided to get into producing myself which took obviously a ton of time away from my actual passion (recording vocals/song writing etc.) It took me *YEARS* to finally get my instrumentals to the point where I felt like they were worthy of actually being released. So instead of releasing half a dozen albums or more in the last decade, I haven't released a single damn album! It's only been the last couple years that my instrumentals are finally at a level that I'd be happy to record/release. I had no idea you could even lease beats for so damn cheap until about a year ago! I only got into producing because I knew I'd never be able to afford to buy beats. Back in the early 2000's producers were selling (or attempting to sell) their beats for 2+ thousand dollars! Aint nobody got time for that! Now I'm here 40 years old and realizing I could release a ridiculously top end album for less than $2000 grand by simply leasing a bunch of beats from people that have dedicated their entire lives to producing beats! DAMN!

Lots of great info... thanks. I have had sync companies or placement companies require you own exclusive rights to submit for syncing. Now I have not dealt with this much. but the couple times I did get placements they required exclusive rights of the underlying and master be held by me. And I have heard this same kind of comment from more than one person that you can't sync leased beats, So I was under the impression that is how it was as well. In fact I have re-recorded music and stopped even considering using 100's of beats I have spent hundteds of dollars for unlimited leases as well, because I would like to pursue syncing on a bigger scale. (I think I even have 5 or 6 of yours Ive purchased laying in a folder. lol) So Any more info on this subject would be amazing. Thanks!!

@@ripplesakaauditorygenius9682 synch companies or pay-to-submit style companies?
@ripplesakaauditorygenius9682
@ripplesakaauditorygenius9682 8 күн бұрын
@@DJPain1 I Never paid to submit. Ive heard of Taxi and a couple other sites. But like I said before I'm a Newb when it comes to the sync licensing business altogether. It wasn't something I was even considering yet at that point. I am basically a one man team from start to finish, And live in a town of less than 1k people, and the closest city with any kind of musicians or Music Professionals is a 3 hour drive. And Remotely working without linking with the other collaborators or engineers just isn't the same. So the to-do list is way too long and the work ceiling is way too low as I'm sure you understand completely. So I'm working on opening the first brick and mortar professional recording studio and production company In my area as well So it was completely just by chance that it happened. I was approached by a newer start up ran by just a couple people within the last couple years, because they wanted to use one of my tracks for a commercial. They expressed that they could only use the composition if I had exclusive ownership of the master as well as any underlying works, And Minimum 51% of the Publishing as well. The song happened to be produced from scratch by myself and a fellow Producer because this was right around when the whole Content ID / Splice Gate Scandal Began. So I made sure we played every note and even did the drum loops from scratch just to avoid any copyright claim issues. (And IG still removed said same exclusive song that I speak of because of Content ID, It took months to get them to remove the claim and they did it on my release date so it screwed the release numbers and basically told the algorithm to hide the track I feel too) Anyway, After I finally got everything cleared and people could actually stream it anywhere and not just KZbin or SoundCloud Is when I was asked to use the music, which in the long-run ended up being two fairly amazing sync deals. And It clicked at that point that i was shitting the bed by not sending off for syncs As it appears to be the road to that back end residual bag, with consistency and serious time Investment into submitting the proper music to the proper company.. I'm starting to understand it a little better now And it does not seem to be quick, But as far as I can tell the Key is consistently submitting at very least weekly. And having Good Industry Quality Music of course. But My catalog has been limited Because I had the impression that leased beats would be an issue. And now watching this Ren And Kujo Beats debacle, What if something like that happens with a sync deal with someone major like Netflix or Fox or some major network company? Because I have purchased literally thousands of unlimited leases over the last 20 years of performing and recording. From around 50 Producers from Anno Domini, Wyshmaster, Taylor Made, Ryini, Utility Beats, AnyWayWell, 2Future Anthem, Big Shot Beats, Bubba Got Beats, Cabo Beats, Chillest, Clark Makes Hitz, The Legion, CreateYaLane, Flip Tunes, Leezy The Gifted, King Phillip, Uncle Beat Productions, Luke4Press, Mors, Telling Beatz, Temper, Twanbeatmaker, Blue Flamez Ent., Alrounder, Yourself AND MANY MORE... Most of the listed producers I have minimum 50 to 250 Beats a piece with the exception of you, I only have 5. And I only purchase unlimited licenses with the trackouts always. literally thousands of dollars invested. And I've been through every contract and all of which state it is the artist responsibility to clear samples but the producer will disclose any samples that were used in any beat to the best of there knowledge. But NOT a single contract has any mention of any samples used by ANY of you in the beats I've purchased, and Ive got a folder full of songs that I heard noticeable practically unaltered samples in. The budget for samples right now is literally 0 so I just put them in a folder. But I know for sure that I dont know or recognize all underlying samples that have been used. Just the obvious ones. And then There is an even bigger folder of beats that, being stupid in the beginning on my part and not realizing that the majority of you guys want 50% of the writing credit and 50% of the publishing on the new master recording. for a beat you have leased to hundreds or thousands of other artist?!. Umm, I am sorry But I already paid for your work by purchasing the lease. And how is it justifiably royalty free at all if you require half of the ownership to my master.? ownership to half of my income, residually on each track? On A song I wrote 100% of, Recorded The vocals and any other instrumentation I want added in my studio, Pay for any features wanted, Then have to typically completely recompose the beat, just to Properly Edit and Mix the entire song from the trackouts (Properly Unmasking and automating and what not) And then actually master the final new mix and not send it through some free Master program that just doesn't quite cut the cheese and sounds squashed and Distorted in my ears for the most part.. And thats not even touching investment in any music video, Content made and posted consistantly and Money invested in promotion. Which I hate to hate, And I haven't worked with your beats or yourself personally enough to know your contract requirements. So not necessarily you, maybe, I'm not sure.... But none of these other guys EVER do the extra promotions or posts they offer or even help promote the music you made with their beats AT ALL, EVER. Ill send it personally when finished and I might get awesome track or sounds awesome as a response. But they don't even repost or share the track you made or ever mention any thing about work being released by any artists using the beats unless we pay or win some contest. I doubt they even listen most of the time honestly unless you go viral. But y'all want half the money made from my work and every other artist that leased that beat and make any kind of income? That sounds like our tax system, And It may not be a scam, But it is just as scandalous as labels holding masters, Because they all advertise that they are royalty free beats that we can monetize and keep all of the royalties we make. But they leave out the fact that they want a 50\50 split on the new sound recording master, as well as retain ownership to the underlying samples and master. And to top it off if we do want a sync license, most of them charge you for that now... I mean most of y'all even upcharge to make the trackoust WAV files instead of mp3s. now so for unlimited rights with tracked out WAV files it ends up costing almost 10x what a basic lease would cost. And the trackouts are a must for mixing because most of the beat mixes are lazy garbage in my opinion. Most of the time the producer comments on how amazing the beat sounds when Im done. And I just wonder why they dont send out better quality? But I guess when hundreds, or even thousands of people lease the same beats, Then I guess why would they care if it doesn't matter? They get their money regardless. Not to rant a book or anything... But Leasing could be an amazing opportunity for all parties involved, Easily. But right now, There is no accountability for producers that sell illegally used samples that they dont disclose that they used in their beats or in the extreme case like with D. Lynch selling other peoples beats as your own. or non transferable licensed features. Or offering fake deals with Twista and sony music. And that idiot still scamming people, nothing ever even happened to this guy. I still get emails trying to sell me Nipsey features and shit. Their needs to be some sort of regulation on the beatmakers productions to make sure that things like samples and copyrights are cleared. IDK... Whats your thoughts? (irritation but no hate inteded) And I know i was a bit all over the place but I honestly would love to hear your perspective as a producer that leases beats and has used samples as well. Thanks!!!
