One thing that still blows my mind is that the gameboy advance only has one generation of Pokémon made for the system (not including the generation 1 remakes). I never really realized this until recently lol. Every other Nintendo system has multiple generations of Pokémon. I guess the gap between the gameboy advance and the Nintendo DS was shorter than I remembered.

imma be honest, when i do no capture runs, i allow myself to catch certain pokemon (required legends, the train station Slowpoke, shinies, etc.) and still consider the run to be valid as long as they dont get used in battle

Yeah it’s the Fallout 3 Radroach Clause. On paper yeah you may or may not fail a challenge because of sequences you’re forced into that break the rules, but since it’s effectively a glorified cutscene with no way past it, the challenge technically isn’t failed.

I did a no catch run in Shield last year and yeah, pretty frustrating that the DLC with most of the best gift Pokémon is walled off especially when you have to catch eternatus anyway but there is a bit of a loophole. If you camp on numbered routes and make high graded curry there’s a chance that wild Pokémon will come join you without having to catch them. It’s a bit like using pokepelego for Pokémon that way.

I love this challenge. I even love his use of "two shakes of a lambs tail" "lay waste" "lay down the law" little phrases from FRLG how Nintendo intended. Although before I started this I thought Mikey might make a cameo.. But I also did a no catch challenge on Fire Red. It was fun and it had its fair share of challenges. Keep up the great content man. I once did a run like this and I highly recommend it. Although I allowed myself to go to the isle of armor. My final team was Rillaboom, Toxtricity, alolan ninetales, persian, raichu, and marowak.

So what I wanna do is a sort of a variation of the no catching run, where you can only get Pokémon, that have limited availability in your game, regardless of whether they are caught or gifted to you. So in Kanto e.g. you could catch one or two Snorlaxes and would end up with a Team similar to that of Red when you fight him in Gen 2. Or here in Galar you could catch the Isle of Armor Slowpoke as well as Eternatus, but on the other hand couldn't get infinite fossil pokémon. I'm not sure if this sort of challenge has a name yet though.

Sell everything you picked up or were given, and if you got any Apricorn Balls from Ball Guy you can have your Pokémon hold them so they're not in your bag. fun fact about Eternatus; there is no way to *not* catch it. They even hide a bunch of boxes until you catch Eternatus. Supposedly, if you were to edit your save to fill the boxes you start with and the hidden boxes, the game crashes when you attempt to catch Eternatus

They've been doing that since gen 6. Also, it's only one Box that can't be used until you catch Eternatus. But not only that, if you didn't have any Poké Balls when you went to catch it, you'd automatically be given one.

I totally bought Let's Go Pikachu just to get the free Pikachu in this game, since previously I'd just bought Let's Go Eevee since that was preferred one of the pair (since Eevee is my favorite Pokémon). So I can see why you would've done that with Eevee. They do have a demo of Let's Go on the eShop - I don't know if that works for that requirement or not though. I didn't know you were actually forced to catch the Galarian Slowpoke to gain access to the Isle of Armor. I just caught it cause it was a new Pokémon, like I usually do. Also wasn't aware of the Togepi trade. Alcremie is great, but I'm sure Togekiss would've been a better Fairy type to use in the later game (like against Raihan for example, or against Leon's Dragon types, though his Dragapult had Shadow Ball to cover his Fairy weakness when I fought him). May have to keep that in mind. It might be too late in Sword (as once you're in the final tournament I don't think you can leave the Stadium except for story things like stopping Rose), but it would be helpful for Shield, although in that game I also have access to Galarian Rapidash. Plus I never use my gift Toxel anyway (except for Poké Jobs) I caught a Nickit early on and basically just used that (and its evolution Thievul) to fight Bede. Until the tournament, he uses an all-Psychic team, which meant that my pure dark-type Nickit/Thievul could basically OHKO his whole team with moves like Assurance, while taking no damage to him thanks to my immunity to Psychic. Since I found Bede to be a colossal jerk, I found this advantage very satisfying.

I just came back to SW/SH in an effort to do an entire living dex through PKHEX and proper gen games for the regions, and I had to install the Sacred Sword difficulty mod and the randomized wild mons mod. Its unfortunate that those mods made an infinitely better game, one that is the first pokemon game I didnt bother finishing the first time around.

Not 100% sure if this would work, but you can breed toxtricity with cinderace and get an egg towel. Then you can trade a toxel for togepi and still have a toxtricity for the opal fight

@@flutter5373 yeah, but the problem with tr is that, they are tough to find. You have to battle a steel type to get it, which is still tough to get the right drop. But I also happen to do this challenge too a few months before him, and I still have the team that I used. Granted with some "adjustments"
