The title track 13th Star was recorded at the Funny Farm..according to Fish, the section where he sang, "If I held out my heart and offered my hand would you take it"..he was choking back tears of the break up..what a great performer..love Fish. Have followed him since Script for A Jesters Tear and the Marillion days..just Love his music ...Recommend Weltschmerz and a track Rose Of Damascus..Incredible.

You are right about artists that fly under the radar. Currently enjoying Bruce Soords new album and then there is Steven Wilsons new one. I dont suppose anywhere enough people will ever them.

To your point about people not being willing or able to expand their musical experience, I felt that way about myself about 5 years ago, listening to the same 500 or so songs they play (and have been playing ad infinitum) on classic rock radio and my rather meager record collection. Streaming music has really opened my world up by allowing me access to the entire catalogues of bands I had loved but didn't know in depth like Yes and Genesis, other classic bands I never knew like King Crimson, discover more "modern" bands similar to them like Porcupine Tree and Marillion (and Fish), and just about anything that people recommend or I read about or just want to try. I suppose most people will just stay in their little corner of the music world, but at least now it's all easily accessible if you're willing to take a small leap.

The lyrics to this album are particularly meaningful in the context of Fish's life situation at the time. Not quite jilted at the altar but his engagement to Heather Findlay, vocalist of Mostly Autumn, was called off shortly into the recording of this album (and after wedding invites had been sent). Fish kept the venue and invited everyone to this album's launch party instead. All's well in the end - Fish married his third wife, Simone, in 2017 and long may their happiness last.

Can you explain "utter mindless drivel" I think "Fish " has got to be one of the most underrated lyricists, the guy is a poet.

Love old Marillion but I never particularly liked Fish solo, except actually this one (and the remix sounds even worlds better than the original) and Weltschmerz which is supposed to be his last one.

Hi Jim, I want this album whatever quality these last songs have. I don’t doubt that they will be excellent. 👂🏻👂🏻🫠 Indeed, very good songs, the middle one being the least favorite of them. You missed out a lot on Fish for all these years. You can still catch up. You should hear him live.
