20lb Bottle: amzn.to/48azdHd
5lb Bottle: amzn.to/3UUlP5B
Fill it up at your local food grade CO2 supplier (approx $32 for 20lbs)
Stubby Refill adapter: amzn.to/4bzIUSO
For Sodastream Terra/Duo/Art, use this: amzn.to/4dEGQKi
Other stubby refill adapter I don't like: amzn.to/3utFK24
Connect directly to a soda stream: amzn.to/3uhe4O0
Steps to refill.
1. Pick the size of bottle
2. Fill it up locally
3. Pick the adapter type, stubby, long hose, or direct connect.
4. For refilling bottles, freeze bottle overnight
5. Fill as shown in the video, go slow for the anti refill valve types of bottles
6. If it doesn't fill 100%, refreeze and repeat.
#sodastream #refillsodastream #sodastreamadapter #refillco2 #co2bottle
NOTE: All of this is NOT for the quick connect pink bottle soda streams. For that you will need a different adapter.

Yes. Good video. But, seriously, get a siphon tube installed (or ask for one on your next exchange). Telling people to flip a CO2 tank upside down is just stupid. It’s almost as bad as telling them to check if their gun is loaded by pulling the trigger. Don’t pass out bad information. People come to videos like this to help figure out things they don’t understand, and you’re telling them an incredibly dangerous way to learn that thing.

The hard white plastic washer is usually made from teflon, and from what I understand, is supposed to be replaced each time you put a regulator or other attachment on a CO2 cylinder. I will admit to rarely changing them out, unless there is an obvious leak.

I have the same refill hose, and I had my CO2 supplier add a syphon tube to my Kegco 5# tank. The nice thing about using the long hose is that you can place the small CO2 tank on a scale after attaching the hose end fitting. Press TARE. Then fill the tank. You can monitor the filling progress instead of guessing. Possibly a little safer as it is harder to overfill, IMO. That minor extra loss of CO2 left in the hose is a small price FOR ME to pay for the added feeling of safety. ALSO, IMO, a 20# tank is somewhat awkward to handle, and my 5# tank capacity is a little small. Again, IMO, a 10# tank would be the "Goldielocks" of tanks. The last thing you would want is for your 20# tank to fall off the counter and break off the valve head. The tank immediately becomes a deadly rocket bomb that will blow through all of the walls of your house and several of your neighbors' houses, too. That's why tanks in commercial locations have to have their tanks chained to the wall studs. THANKS for this video!

Also, if you freeze the cylinder in a chest freezer set to the coldest temperature, and then insulate it with something to help keep cold while filling, you will probably achieve a higher fill rate.

@BeatTheBushDIY

The 20lb can fill up the small about 22 times. A 20lb tank costs about $32 locally. You have to find your own local place to do this. Fine a food grade supplier and not a commercial CO2 place.

You might want to build a wooden base to more securely hold that inverted tank. You really don't want that tank to hit the floor. You can also get a regulator and try the carbonation cap method, which I think does a slightly better job of carbonating than a SS (although with more effort).
@BeatTheBushDIY
@BeatTheBushDIY 4 ай бұрын
I'd probably buy a siphon stick over a building a base after it runs out and modify it before refill. But then the frequency of refill is pretty low for me so I don't mind the current process.

@@BeatTheBushDIYI have a similar setup and started with a donor tank without a siphon tube. I recently had a syphon tube installed in the donor tank but am experiencing refills of only about 100 grams on each refill. When I was inverting the non-syphon tube tank, I was getting about 200 grams on each refill.

I just tried to use the Farwind connector to fill an empty sodastream canister with the older pin valve (which is supposed to be easier to fill than the newer type). I froze the sodastream canister for about 2 hours before attempting to fill it. I may have opened the valve of the 5lb co2 tank too quickly at first. There was a loud whining sound that eventually dissipated, followed by a very soft hissing. At around the 4 minute mark I disconnected the sodastream canister and attempted to use it in my Drinkmate Omnifizz but to no avail. When I tried to refill the sodastream again, there was no hissing. I tried to push on the pin of the sodastream valve to see if there was any gas inside, but i could not depress the pin at all, even with a screwdriver. I am refreezing the soda stream canister again to see if it helps but im not feeling optimistic. Any idea on what is going wrong? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Any way you slice it, this method must be better than what I first tried, which was to buy dry ice, slice it into pieces small enough to fit into the soda stream cylinder with the valve removed, and then replace the valve. Thanks for the informative video.
@BeatTheBushDIY
@BeatTheBushDIY 3 ай бұрын
Dry ice is a bit dangerous since you could overfill easily and exceed maximum pressure after the ice melts inside.
@jon_byler
@jon_byler 3 ай бұрын
Use a scale, check weight before and after, make sure it doesn’t exceed cylinder tare weight plus allowed weight of CO2. It’s hard to exceed, since the stuff starts sublimating faster than in air due to the aluminum being a better conductor than the air. The smaller the chunks of dry ice, the faster it sublimates. Biggest danger might be asphyxiation if doing this indoors in a small room, rather than exploding. I do all things like this outdoors…

I think the small amount of C02 in that hose would be a negligible loss. How can I tell if my C02 tank has a siphon tube or not? Can one be added to avoid having to invert the tank? Great video instruction though, thanks.

You should hear a tiny stream of liquid pass through. You can’t over fill it since the pressure in the two bottles equalizes. If you did it properly and using a bottle that doesn’t have a check valve, it will fill in 3 minutes or so. It will stop making noises.

I get my 20lb tank with a siphon tube exchanged with beverage gas for about 20 bucks at Linde(formerly praxair). @@lastanetaarion you just end up damaging the valve on your sodastream gas bottle if you fill it too fast. I did it to one of my bottles, filled it was too fast and then the sodastream pink bottle leaked out completely as the value must have been damaged from the pressure, im not sure if it's a safety feature of the newer bottles themselves that the value is designed to fail first when the bottle is over pressurised.
@nhand42
@nhand42 3 ай бұрын
@@kloppskop4149 There is a burst disk on all sodastream bottles and another burst disk on the sodastream machine itself. Safety first. The bottle and the valve are probably just fine. The burst disk is a sacrificial component that protects the bottle and valve, you only have to replace the burst disk itself. On the bottles the burst disk is under the hexnut below the screwthread. The pressure rating is critical so only replace with burst disks made specifically for sodastream bottles.

Okay , so the issue is this c 02 is in gas form at room temperature. When you fill a co two tank it is PUMPED in and then the pressure as it is pumped in converts the gas form a co two into a liquid. Co2 is measured in a cylinder by weight. What you are doing is considered a cascade gravity feed. You are only getting about ....fuck all in the tank. It has to be pumped in by machine as tank is on a scale to bring it to weight.
@intlgunmonkey2872
@intlgunmonkey2872 17 сағат бұрын
Dude, you have no idea what you’re talking about. The CO2 in the donor tank is pressurized to the point that it is liquid (in the bottom, gas on top). If you open a path for the liquid CO2 to flow, it will go into the receiving tank as a liquid, therefore pressurized. It absolutely works. I’ve filled dozens of tanks this way, not counting the hundreds of paintball tanks I filled at a job 20 years ago. Also, don’t listen to this Jackwagon in the video. GET A SIPHON TUBE. If you’re turning a CO2 tank upside down to fill it, you’re just asking for a traumatic brain injury (best case scenario). It’ll cost an extra $5, and will save your friends and family from the embarrassment of explaining to the folks coming to pay their respects at your funeral that they’re there because you caved your skull in trying to save money filling your own soda tanks. Siphon tube and chain on tank= happy long life. Flipping tank upside down= you fail at life.
