Hey Richard, don’t let the lack of quality and integrity on new builds get you down. I’m fixing electrical problems in houses less than a year old because it’s a race to the bottom on any new dwelling, especially townhouses/ condos.

Paint the top of the 2 upper-trim boards all-around to match the ceiling. Or put crown a few inches down and paint the walls/trim just under the ceiling to match the ceiling. Then it'll seem more level. Especially if it's dark and you can't see the drywall corner shadow as well.

I believe based on what Richard said, the whole room is going to painted the original dark color again. All the detail will all be washed away.

Now retired and do miss the opportunities to solve the problems created by architects and framers, foundations etc. Challenging but kind of satisfying when you can stand back and know that you made all the defects disappear. “If it look’s right, it is right”. One of many sayings taught to me by my mentors while doing a five year apprenticeship in finish carpentry. My career started in the mid seventies and ended in 2016. Looking back, I’m a very blessed man. Thank you Jesus.(My boss is still a Jewish carpenter). Thank you Jesus🙏

Hello Richard, I’m looking to do the work you do on this channel and putting together some kit. Currently have the Milwaukee M18 15 gauge nailer and looking to add an 18 gauge nailer. Looking at the M18 model or the newer M12 model. Only downside with the M12 being that it shoots max 1 1/2 inch nails. Could you please guide me in which way I should go?

wait, you miter folded 1/8th inch mdf? Even with a tracksaw that's quite a trick. Such a shame about that ceiling being so far out of level. Given the price you mentioned I'm surprised the guy did not want to pay you guys to level the ceiling. Makes me remember a job I once did. It was a pretty big bathroom and there was going to be tile floor to ceiling. The ceiling was out like 2 inches in 10-12 feet. I tapered 2x4s from 0-2 inches and installed them and then we sheetrocked to the newly shimmed out ceiling. Otherwise the tile would have looked like dog dirt. Cool project Richard, thank you for posting.

I think for me I would've put some insulation panels first to sound proof the walls since it's a Theater Room. It would be more expensive but it'd great for using that room as a music studio set-up. (I'm always thinking about making money in every different situation🙄🤔🤑😂😂😂).

You did a good job. Unfortunately the Media room is going to sound terrible (it may have bad video performance as well). I'm not trying to hate on it. It's no big deal. That's what the homeowners wanted. I just want people to know that it will effect the performance of the sound in the room. You do such a good job I can see people copying it. They should know that they probably shouldn't. We've considered teaching classes over at the local design schools (university). Designers have messed up so many home theaters. It makes me sad.

Man is that 1/8" directly on the wall? How much telegraphing do you think will show once it's finished? That's thiinnnnnn AWI standards usually 1/4" min directly on gyp and it's for a pretty good reason - just talking from a commercial stand point, highly recommend beefing those bad boys up and throwing up some real paneling
@QueenMeat
@QueenMeat 2 ай бұрын
Not to mention any globs of construction adhesive will likely telegraph or bow those panels out enough to show up in reflective finish. Again, a master carpenter shouldn't be doing this :D
@lw8882
@lw8882 7 ай бұрын
The contractor AND the designer did your client dirty here. Not just the ceiling being out of level, but the flat panels in a theatre room. MDF absorbs more mid frequencies than anything else, and it's still a flat panel that will bounce sound back directly instead of diffusing it. It's a media room that looks great, you guys did an awesome job, but it will sound poor.

Board and baton isn’t really high end to begin with and I’m guessing the owner didn’t want to pay to move the lights even though it’s stupid easy and would’ve looked better and then the boxes around it would’ve also been better spaced. If the owner wanted it more high end looking he would’ve went with picture molding and boxes not touching with squares at the bottom and vertical rectangles above. I’m guessing it’s all going to get painted so that will help a little.

Man that ceiling was terrible. Would it not have looked better to have the bottom of the crown sit level on top of the 1x6 and scribe to the ceiling instead of having the taper on the 1x6? Seems very obvious.. maybe paint will help
