Beautiful Schilke 1041FLC Flugelhorn! ACB Show & Tell with Trent Austin

This is a beautiful flugelhorn that we just got in as a trade-in. It's in really excellent condition. A couple design features to note:
-The decorative bell bow garland, for a little extra support on the back bell bow.
-This horn has a fairly tight, compact wrap.
-The bore in .406", which is a little bit smaller than a typical flugel, definitely a french style bore if you're looking for that sound and feel.
-Of course the great craftsmanship you expect from Schilke.
-Comes with two leadpipes, for large and small taper mouthpieces, so you can dial in the sound and feel or just use whichever mouthpiece style you currently have (French taper leadpipes can be ordered).
-One-piece, hand-hammered copper bell.
- A beautiful hard shell case is included.

Nice sound. I know a lot of trumpet doublers like the Flugel for its warm fuzzy sound, but I'm glad you played some in the upper register. When you play in a British Brass Band, the Flugel is the top conical voice and composers do write above the staff for the Flugel in that setting. Schilke is usually pigeon-holed into bright screech playing for their trumpets, but this sounds like it would fit in with a legit group. Could you go into the two lead pipes in general? A number of flugel horns have the smaller pipe and does it take a french horn mouthpiece, or what? I play a Schilke 15F4 mouthpiece on my flugel with a cornet shank.

Thanks for the question! I haven't measured the pipes for the taper, but the 2 pipes take different shank mouthpieces: the large shank (like Yamaha, Schilke, and of course ACB) and the small shank (Bach shank - we make these too).

One is a large taper (Yamaha etc) and the other small taper (Bach american) taper
