The really sad thing is that recalculating the review numbers for non-incentivized reviews is a very simple algorithm. It's obvious that it's not being done either because 1) they're lazy, or 2) they're trying to conceal the truth.

What drives me nuts is the review pics of the product in the box. Not a swatch or something actually helpful. Lots of these free products don't even get tested but rather resold on Mercari or poshmark.

My icks with reviews: - when someone leaves a review after buying/ordering but before using saying they're excited to try it and can't wait to use it - when there are ~20 legit reviews per 1000 total. I left a negative review on the One Size setting spray. It has over 2000 reviews. I filtered the incentivized reviews out and it left...40.

Sephora absolutely does delete reviews. I always found their reviews a little fishy to be so positive. So I wrote, on products that I purchased, and if it was a 1 star (Dior lipstick in a purple shade) and/or when I mentioned how it compared to another brand by name, it got deleted. I know they don’t delete every negative review, but it’s happened to me more than once. So I unfortunately don’t trust their site that much. I do like leaving honest reviews on the free product app that Kevin uses too. I don’t want to bs and waste people’s time and money just I can look good to a multi million/billion dollar company.

It's happened to me on ULTA, too. That Essence Emily in Paris had a highlighter that reminded me of the Becca highlighter in lilac geode, but when I got it in person is was super glittery. Left a review to let others know and I noticed months later my review was gone, even though it was initially posted just fine.

When I write reviews on either Ulta or Sephora, I also include my age, skin type, and skin issues, especially for complexion products, because I think it's so essential to know. To date I haven't included many photos because I don't like photos of myself, but I'm beginning to realize that photos may be important.

I think folks forget that having a rating of 3 is not bad… it’s average which isn’t the worst thing in the world. If everything is 4/5 stars amazing, then honestly nothing is better than the next. The inconsistency of online reviews has made it where I refuse to buy a product I can’t either swatch in person or watch an in depth video review on bc I wanna see how it performs on skin without photo retouching. I have oily skin and if I can’t get a general consensus on how it’ll perform on my skin I’m not gonna order it. Which sucks that online reviews get incentives to lie and then people who do spend their hard earned money on the product get scammed and feel stupid. Which ofc isn’t the case this is purposely dishonest and aims to get consumers to buy a product that may not work for them. I love how honest and passionate you both are it’s nice to see someone with integrity and a love for beauty being real with people and having the knowledge and skill to back it up 🖤 the highlight of my week is watching this show and the after shows on Patreon!

So I personally post A LOT of incentivized posts on Sephora. I get sent free products through an app. And, while some people may not give legit feedback and reviews, I’ve left 1 star reviews. I also always write in my reviews and always have that I’m giving a reviews in exchange for a free product. An example of one is the beauty blender blush. It was pure shit. I wrote that on the app and the Sephora app. I think Kevin and I are using the same app. I’ve been using it for years now. I love being able to review stuff honestly.

A side discussion to this is this all underlines how much I miss Temptalia now that's she's moved away from makeup reviews. Beyond the fact that I just don't absorb stuff well via video, her reviews and swatches were so consistent and regimented. Even if things looked different on her (she had more yellow/olive skin than me), it was *consistently* different. Her methodology was identical and transparent - for example, if an eyeshadow was a B+ by her metric (which didn't use primer) then I might be like...ok, I'll use a primer and give it a shot. *sigh* Truly end of an era.

I fully agree. I adored Temptalia. That open letter she wrote was heart breaking. I am glad she prioritized her wellbeing & has found a new passion that truly brings her so much joy. I do think the burnout was the cause of her loss of interest in makeup & think after a very long break (i.e. years) she will find her way back to it. At least that’s my hope 🤞💖

I mixed the glow recipe new serum with my azelic acid following it after I let the retinol set for 20-30 minutes before applying. It really did give me great results I suffer from cystic acne and hormonal acne and gluten if I eat it like i automatically know I’ll have a cyst in hours smh it is something I just accept. But that serum does work nicely. However I bought it from glow recipe and they had rhinestone bottles that sold out in the first hour. People that bought it like me within the first days got free slippers with it that thank god I have small feet size 6.5 women’s because anyone larger then a size 7 would not fit in them. They didn’t let you choose a size and now see they are selling them on their site for way more then I’d want to pay let alone get and be disappointed that they don’t fit once arriving if I had paid for them.

I would like to add to the dialogue the photos brands will put up, especially for “anti aging,” products where it appears fairly obvious, at least to me, that a model is smiling/emoting in some way in the before picture, and the after picture just looks like them relaxing their face. This makes me feel like the brands are trying to falsify, or minimally exaggerate, the effects of their skincare.

I’m super pale and was really excited about the lavender ysl blush but with all the hate it’s getting I’m scared to own it and get shade thrown at me as a result though it probably would look amazing on my porcelain pale (staying out of the sun used to be a tannorexic) skin that I struggle to find a shade that matches because I’m the lightest shade but a neutral possible olive undertone not a cool or warm at all lol.

Hello guys! Thanks for another video. Off top, I wanted to talk about the situation with Patrick Ta - I don't understand the overhype surrounding his products at all. I have his eyeshadow palette, blush duo and lip gloss (gifted to me for my birthday) and I can honestly say that I only enjoy the blushes and compared to others in my collection, it’s at the bottom of it. To me this brand looks more like a brand for a makeup artists, but here's what kills me: my makeup artist friend attended his workshop in Istanbul last year and Patrick was asked about his advice on working with his products and problem skin and - drum roll - he said he can't say anything because he doesn't work with clients with problem skin and closed the topic on that. I believe that a professional who promotes his products among other professionals absolutely cannot say that, otherwise what is the point? How to apply a tone on the ideal skin of a teenager does not need much intelligence. What I'm trying to say is that considering the behavior of the brand creator and the products themselves, I don't understand the hype. Sorry for the emotional tone, it's just that this situation really got to me.
